Speedball II. Period. Yeah, this kind of dates me a little, but I absolutely LOVED playing Speedball II on my Amiga 500. I really, really miss that game. It would be so cool is somebody would remake the game for the PC taking advantage of todays sound and graphical technologies. They could even add a multiplayer aspect component to it... play it on the internet with leagues and rankings!
Yup, I'd buy a gamepad for my PC just to play that game.
Sigh... if only it would happen. :(

I bought a gamepad to play emulators. I also use it for console ports and other gamepad friendly games.

Speedball 2 is excellent. I have a GBA version too but it's no where near as good as the original.
I like to use dreamcast and gamecube controllers with my computer.

I bought mine just to play FIFA 06 but now I mainly use it for emulators.

I can't believe the Bitmap Brothers aren't developing an updated PC version (as well as other platforms) version of Speedball 2. As huge of a hit as it was, why not bring it back... it's certainly been long enough.
But I wouldn't want them ruining it by making it at a weird 3D camera angle (which I heard they did). Leave it in top to bottom view so you retain the fast and furious action that made the game great. Basically, leave the game as it was but add today's hardware accelerated graphics and effects along with the 3D sound. I'd buy it in a heartbeat...

Just looking at the title, I thought of a bunch of Amiga- and other 16-bit titles that are just screaming for me to buy a new pad. Funny that the thread actually is about a retro game.

Name them games ;) None of the games were very rare and only one of them was system exclusive, so they should be easy to recognize.
Actually I've been thinking of buying this (http://www.afterhours.co.uk/speedlink-competition-pro-usb-p-420.html). Classic design, but with 4 buttons and it's USB, plug and play.

Same for me. I'm waiting on the x360 wireless control pad for PC...

Chaos Engine, Battle Squadron, Ruff 'n' Tumble, Superfrog and Zool.
Good ol' Amiga.

Zool 2 actually, but that's splitting hairs.

Laffer might disagree (http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/showthread.php?t=17317) on this stick, though...
360 Controller is the way to go.

good news (hopefully):
the german publisher Frogster Interactive has bought the rights of both Speedball 2 and Chaos Engine. They are already working on remakes and the Bitmap Brothers are involved (yay).
