Free-mode!?!

You know what would be so cool!!! A free mode. Only for mulitplayer. The mode will have it's own maps ( The size of a GTA map!!!) It would work like this. You would start the game in a urban city like map. You and the other player's will have their own house. You can do whatever you want watch tv call other friends through the phone. ( That is if you have a microphone installed.) And if you want you can go hunt down the other players!!! You can get jobs. ( Like working at dukeburger.) Buy cars. And if you feel like breaking the law...... Steal one. The maps would include hundreds of NPCS. But here is the best part. Lets say you had Duke watch the news on tv. They start saying stuff about a UFO. And after a few days. ( Duke days, which could be like 30 min. long.) Guess what...... ALIEN INVASION!!!!

You and the other players will have to try to survive. ( Barricades, going in skyscrapers.) The aliens would attack in waves. First wave, pretty easy just assualt troopers and pig cops.( Usually about 400) Second wave. More aliens and battlelords and stuff like that. ( Usually about 700!!!) Third wave, all basic infantry, plus vehicles, and aircraft. ( Usually about 1200.) Think about it. You working at dukeburger with a TV on.
Then breaking news comes on with an interuption. They say something about an alien attack. Duke says a remark. You then can call the other players on the map with Duke's cell phone. Warn them about it, make a meeting place, then get in your car. Meet with each other. And prepare to fight!!! Like break into a gun shop. Or go to your houses. ( Which should be full of weapons ^_^)

The aleins will attack on a random day. You never know.
Or here is another thing you can do. Say one of the other players call you while your at your house. He starts saying shit like "you mother****ing Mo FO!!!" You hang up. Gear up. Take a stroll over to his house. Somehow secretly break in. Then blow that mo fo to pieces!!! lol. Then **** with his house. Also BTW, if you die in free mode you don't respawn. ( Of course you do in other modes though.)

Also free-mode should have features of it's own. Like hunger for example. Duke gets hungry. Don't feed him he'll eventually starve. I personally think this would be an awesome idea. In my opinion if the geame has this. It would be the best pc game of all time. I could never get sick of something like this.

Although of course. 3DRealms is pretty much done DNF and probably won't be able to add another mode. Maybe they can add this to an expansion pack!!! THAT WOULD BE SO COOL!!!! Me and my friends would play it for hours non-stop!!!!!

I really hope they add this feature to an expansion pack. Me and my friends would be so happy!!!! BTW, what do you guys think of this idea? :)

I like the idea very much..i'd buy the game 3 or 4 times with this included..
but instead of waves i,d prefer something quite similar to gta with gangs trying to expand.. and duke(s) trying to kill of the intruders.. there could be waves but gameplay shouldn't focus on that.. cause if you just want to ride a motorcycle in the city you would be bothered by waves.. just clean some part of the map and then ride your bike freely and happily :p
also..with destructible buildings.. would be gold.. imagine a nuke in some infested part of the city...

I like the idea of free play, being able to wander off the monorail track leading you to the final boss. As an expansion this would be pretty cool, I hope the modding community/tech allows for this.

BTW, I don't mean make a completely new duke game. Just add it with an expansion. The expansion should be called "World Of Nukem" like Danule said. It would contain new campaign missions, Dukematch features, and such. But also the legendary Free-Mode!!!!

I don't want modders to make this though. They can't do nearly as much as 3DRealms. I'd hate to see this be a mod.

You can join a server any time you want and it doesnt have to restart. For example, you can join a server thats in duke day 23. Also, when you die you dont respawn automaticly, you have to wait either 2 duke days or join another. A server can last up to 300 duke days (30 mins) or last for 3 hours or until everyone has died, the server also may end if you actually killed the aliens. Plus a biggy, DONT MAKE TO WHERE YOU HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY because im and many other people are not made of money.

Duke definatly won't have a massive roaming enviroment, the idea sound cool. i wouldn't mind a medium sized area of a city to play in (think Battlefield where they block you into about six or eight blocks of space.)

This thing sounds really great! ... Got an additional idea... The mode could be like in that movie "28 Days Later" ... just with aliens instead of zombies. You could walk around alone and collect weapons, food etc. in shops. You could also do that co-op style with other players and build a fortress of survivers (with system of course so some persons are defending the base against aliens and other players and other persons go "shopping" and stuff)

Customizing you Duke character would be a must. Althought seeing a whole bunch of duke nukems running down a street would be kinda cool. Another idea is the option to pick between Duke and other humans ,aleins, Pig cops, troopers, octa brains/octa avengers and any other character would be cool. Letting people play the aliens would be a good idea to keep things interesting and exciting, i would definately pay to play this online.

Everyone reserves the right to their own opinion but I strongly dissagree with you. If they make it, it won't be like GTA at all, except for the fact that it's free roaming. Plus it would just be a mode in the game. Not the whole game itself.

It probably won't be the last actually. With this game's popularity it's quite possible for a sequel. Plus Í've read many recent interviews with the devlopers and they said as long as the sales are good. They'll keep making them. And I highly doubt the sales will blow for this game.

I didn't say it wouldn't have to be a new game. I said that it IS a new game if you want to take everything into it. If you want to make a "mode" with all of that inside it would take a LOT of time to make.
Only way i think this could happen is if the mod community made it. Because an expansion would never be something like this. Have you ever seen an expansion of a game with completely different gameplay like the mode you're talking about?.

Most of the time an expansion means more levels with a few new things and that's it. I'm sorry but asking for a mode like this IS unrealistic in my opinion.

If it was a new game, that's something completely different. I would like that and probably get it myself.

Is it possible that it could be not completely free roaming? Just make giant sectioned levels with multiple maps like (I think) Dead Rising is. Make it flow like it is one area, but have seperate maps. Make them giant sections though, not like one block is a map or one store is, but more like 4 blocks by 3 blocks or bigger if possible. I believe there would have to be ways around it.

Not too sure about having a free mode, but I know if, after all this time, 3DR create a straight FPS out of DNF, then they've failed hugely IMO. There are enough point and shoot FPS games out there, think outside the box, add in new elements that push the genre forward rather than gimmicks. They should just scrap linear shooters all together, it's barely a step up from on rails arcade shoot em ups. Do something new dang nabit!!

Just make one big map and put all of the fun interactive things from the singleplayer game in it, pinball, pool, bathrooms etc. Then allow people to shoot eah other like any other online game or you can go about playing with the various toys.
