View Full Version : Problems with outbound email (again - sigh)

This afternoon, I discovered a problem with the web server and being able to send out email. In short, our SMTP server at 3DR is not accepting connections from our web server (given how much we get hammered, we have to take extreme measures like that).

Anyway, this means that nobody can register a new account, as I've turned off new user regs. Since the forums can't send people their verification emails, there's no point in allowing them to register if they're never going to get their verification email. Once it's up again, I'll resend the verification emails for people who registered in the last 36 hours or so, which is when I believe the problem started.

This also means notifications of private messages, emails sent through the board, and any other sort of communication the forums have with you is temporarily not working.

We hope to have this all resolved tomorrow during the day.

Noted. I actually didn't notice I wasn't getting PM e-mails until I saw this thread...

BTW, the webserver might be up and down a few times today. In fact, it's already been down once. This is all part of resolving this problem.

This appears to be fixed. I'm going to wait a bit to make sure it really is before opening up registrations again.

I believe all mail that the board attempted to send out has gone out.

Registrations have been turned back on, I'm considered this problem fixed and closed.

More problems. I've turned registrations back off.

Is it only the registration? I can't change my signature and avatar:(

It's anything that has to do with email. And it's been fixed again. Should work fine now.

Mail is broken again, and as such I've had to turn off registrations once more.

Firewall issues up here are preventing it, and I can't fix the problem due to the fact that it's a configuration issue with the SMTP server; not something I control.

Should be fixed again.
