Got a problem. I got a Thermalake Big Typhoon heatsink. Motherboard doesn't have the 4 holes for it. There's silver spots at those locations, but I don't know if are there as signals that CAN drill holes there, or is there for some other reason.

Anybody know the answer to this? The m.o. is an ECS KN1 Lite. I'm held up completely until can figure out what to do with this.

I'm really afraid drilling holes might mess the m.o. up. Back side of m.o. looks like 'wiring' in those places.

wouldn't do it .. even if you couldn't see any "wires" at the back, main/motherboards are multilayered so the risk of damaging your board is pretty high. Seems the heatsink is not compatible with your m.b.

Can you drill holes ANYWHERE on a motherboard? The answer is NO.

Lol..

"Mind if I drill a hole in your sternum? We can fit this medical device in there, it's not supposed to actually be there on a person in your condition, but hey! Why not?"

GoodAndyBadPizza, you're doing it wrong! You don't drill holes into your motherboard, you make it BURN! http://members.aol.com/spoons1000/break/

I hit wrong button or something, post didn't go thru. So brief this time. It's all up & running, everything seems good. I only had to drill 633 holes in it. Super glued all the miss drillings.

Actually can do it with just two screws, on a 939 socket board. Saw other say that in the egg reviews. For the standoff needed just used the plastic mount from m.o. front side & it did the job perfectly & even left the amount of tightening on the screws as a quick easy job.

Got the win xp pro NIB in, but the disc came off it's pedestal & sure was scratchy! All worked fine though.

I've got to get used to learning how to deal with the firewalls & such. And some of those script limiter extensions can install with firefox.

Nah, that operation sounds like a good idea, might be just what I need. I'll wait till the holidays though.

All the good stuff was in the other post didn't get transmitted. Anyway, really appreciate the replies.

Now, I did find a few sites where they did drill holes in m.o.'s lol, but have to be very careful. It threw me off several hours sorting that stuff out, & luckily I thought about that plastic h/s frame from board & lucked out as it worked almost perfect. If it had've been any bigger, higher at all it probably wouldn't have though. Gonna use a support string or such on h/s & anchor to other side of case, help reduce m.o. stress. Seems okay, but people complained about that, as sticks out so far. I also saw some short their boards out from the h/s support T-bar that goes on back of m.o. I added electric tape over that as extra precaution.

man, you should never have to do something like to get a heatsink to fit. :o

I'm not sure I remember how I installed my heatsink. I think I just took out my motherboard's fan and installed the heatsink instead. I think there was also some kind of metal addon which had two extra screws that locked on the motherboard.
