Way back my old Geforce 6800 caught fire - know idea what went wrong there. There's a thread about it here somewhere. Anywho...

I had a spare Geforce 6800 ultra 256mb (AGP) and up until 3 days ago it was working perfectly. I was playing prey and uped the resolution to something high then my screen went blank and computer locked up. I thought nothing of it. However, when I turned my computer back on I just got a blank screen. I got nothing. At all. No boot screen, no nothing. Why?! The hard disk light is just red no activity at all.

I've taken the motherboard out of the case and tested it and I still get nothing. The fan on the GPU is working fine. I've also tried another AGP card with the motherboard and it works fine (Geforce 6200 :( ). I've also tried another PSU but no luck.

Specs:
AMD 64 3200+
Asus NForce 3 series Motherboard
2GB generic RAM
Windows XP pro SP2.
Enermax 520w PSU

What the heck has gone wrong? It just stopped working for no reason at all.

I've also tested the GPU with another motherboard. No luck.

Well... your description was a little confusing. Let me get this straight:

* 6800 doesn't work on Nforce 3 mobo or alternative

* 6200 works on both? I've also tried another AGP card with the motherboard and it works fine (Geforce 6200)

* You also tried another PSU on the 6800 with Nforce3

It sounds like your graphics card is fried. Unless you mixed up the part about the 6200. Pretty simple conclusion?

Oh, I see I how that is confusing - I was adding words in randomly with my girlfriend talking to me. I tested the 6200 on my ASUS board to see if there was something wrong with the board. That's all that was.

So I can't save my 6800? :(

Not unless you happen to have a wafer fab in the back room of your home, probably not...
It looks like the actual chipset is fried as the fan is still working - telling me that the power to it is okay and if the motherboard works perfectly well with your 6200 then i'd say that it should be okay....

However, a word of caution. Considering you've had two 6800's die on you ising this motherboard and PSU then i'd be wary of buying or using another graphics card that draws a lot of power. It's difficult to say whether to blame the PSU or the motherboard....

Can you RMA it?

As Duoae said, considering you've been through two cards I would take a closer look at your motherboard and PSU.

Shit happens :)

Honestly though, if it doesnt work then thats all there is to it, its dead. :(

Also as Duoae said about that Mobo+PSU combo.

Yeah, i feel for ya. At least you have a 6200 as your backup card. If my 6800 went i have no money to buy a new one. My backup card is an ATI Rage128!!
