Yes, but the overheat is a sort of spend bullet mode and the projectile delay makes the distant shot a bit harder

Not sure I understand. Do you mean like Combo shots?
I can think of a few.
1. Freeze a rocket. Freeze your or an enemy's rocket in mid-air, and it essentially becomes a time bomb.
2. Shrink a rocket: Speeds the rocket up tremendously - If momentum is constant, if you reduce mass by shrinking, you increase speed b/c
momentum = mass*velocity
The rocket essentially becomes an explosive sniper bullet.
3. Freeze a crossbow bolt - If Duke uses crossbows, anything the crossbow hits is both impaled and frozen.
4. Freeze a pipebomb - Pipebomb will not explode unless unfrozen. If the pipebomb is shattered, when it unfreezes there are puddles of explosive fuel.
5. Shrink a pipebomb - Not sure what good this would do, other than hiding them from other online players. Perhaps enemy AIs would not notice shrunken pipebombs?
6. Expander explodes pipebombs and rockets. It expands crossbow bolts to humorous effect, although it reduces their speed.
This isn't the question but your mentioned things looks to be interesting
This is more about the fact an ammo can have several functions like weapons from unreal or blood.
For example the rocket launcher from Unreal can use its rockets as grenades if we want to stay "logical".
Or in the game blood the flare pistol can use some flares to make a sort of fireball

Personally I think that is way too many guns...
I find it that when I play most FPS many of the guns are pointless because they are quite similar. With this in mind here is my list!
Melee weapons - Fist and the mighty boot!
A Desert Eagle - basic all around gun, fast shooting, not like other fps.
Shotgun - duh...
Machine gun - Small clip, good accuracy, grenade launcher variant.
Chain gun - Massive clip, spreader, massive power.
Rocket Launcher - another duh
Devastator - Massive duh
Pipe bombs - classic duke gun, perfect
Frag grenade - A variant of the pipe bomb, weaker
Tripbomb - and to satisfy fans, c4 attached to it
These would make duke nukem balanced.
Off course Duke Nukem ain't about balance, it's about kciking ass, therefore, ice beam and shrink ray would be quite a nice addition but I wouldn't use them... no practically use... I would rather have duke use a nuke launcher or a ray gun...
Well... not much of a contribution but still... I needed to speak my mind.

I think the Shrinker is useful. It was a 1 shot, 1 stomp kill for everything but the New Beasts (Drones) and bosses/mini-bosses. When I was low on patience in Duke I would get out the Shrinker and clear a room by shrinking and then tap dancing.

Still I find that though the shrink ray does that, I rather blast them.
I mean, its pwning when you shrink a alien and step on it but I still find it pointless to walk over there and step on them (call me lazy bun).

I think there should be 4.2 wepon classes, similar to HL2, but in this case, they are also upgrade able.
the weapon classes are:
Class 1-Melee and tools: these include the mighy size nine boot, and aditonaly I think the weapons like C4s and C4 remote, Pipe bombs, Grenades, napalm, Alen bombs (think prey), and Trip Lazer mines are all put into this catagory to keep it orgonized. These are not Upgradeable
Class 2.a-Pistols: Starting out with a Colt 45 you may later exchange this for the Desert egale, later upgradeable with lazer sights, and maybe later, you may exchange this for a Blaster/Raygun like in Quake 4, except better. You may carry two of these choices, and use them both if desired.
Class 2.b- the Same weapons as 2, but used to dual weald pistols that are avalable to Duke. They may Vairy, Colt and a Desert egale, Blaster and Colt, Blaster and Blaster, etc.
Class 3-Pipe weapons (shot guns and Rifels):You may first find a MP6 or some standard isue sub machine gun with Grenade launcher. Moving on from that you may chuck that and use a resonable Shot gun with better spread and equipted with a light sorce, since these guns are liekly in early game to be coman as dirt, you may exchange them frequently. after that you may use an Alien Gun with improvments, maybe a fill in for the devistator?
Class 4.1-Big Toys: Duke starts out finding a Mangun, and uses this to clean out a few levels in the begining, but later finds a Rocket launcher with a Heat seaker function. After that towards A-51, Duke then chucks that for the Srinker ray and takes down a boss with that, Later on the Freezer turns up as it was stolen from A-51 and he uses it to take down yet another boss and wrecks some havock.
Class 4.2- Why not have two Rocket launchers? and No they cant be Dual weald
Basicly the means of adding progresson, choice, supply management, and what have you, offering challenge, but add the feeling of progress.
How about:
1) Melees and usables(?);
2) Pistols and shotgun;
3) Machine guns;
4) Big boys (devastator and rocket launcher and ray guns etc);
5) Drop explosives (pipe bombs, grenades, trip bombs, c4 etc);
6) Sci-fi weapons!

A random gun that will never ever be used ever, not in any game, at all, no debaits, its just too Inpractical: The Primordial Gun!
The Primordial gun fires a beam of energy that reverses the course of evolution until the the entity becomes nothing more than Primordial soup. When the ray hits, it must not be broken, or the effects cancel out.
It was first developed for combating Advenists who refuse to admit there is such thing as Evolution (talking family here)

For the items I have my own classification to submit
1 Melee and tools (any melee weapons, and some tools want a shovel ?)
2 Pistols, revolvers, machine pistols (the small energy weapons like a laser pistol are included here)
3 Semi automatic and manual rifles (Shotguns, beam rifles, sniper rifles, anti material rifles are here)
4 Automatic rifles, and large automatic guns (Assault shotguns, rifles, chainguns, miniguns, laser gatling guns and the other weapons of this kind are here)
5 Special purpose energy, Hybrid and chemical weapons (Raildrivers, shrinkers, freeze throwers, flamethrowers, microwave guns, and many others are here)
6 Explosive launchers (RPGs, rocket and grenade launchers are here)
7 Overkill (the overkill weapons are mass attack weapons, but be careful with them)
8 Tactical weapons and throwing explosives (tripmines pipebombs, grenades, and others are here)

In DN manhattan project we have a GLOPP gun, we can reduce the mutants at their state before evolution, the pig cops can be reduced at a pig state :D

I think the categories could be simplified further into things like:
Melee
Projectile (shoots bullets)
Energy
Explosive (has blast radius)
Special
Project/energy/explosive are the main categories and are better suited to different enemies. Some may be resistant to bullets but not to energy weapons for example.
Within each category you then have sub-divisions:
Hard-hitter (highest damage, slowest fire-rate, short-range accuracy)
All-rounder (medium damage, average fire-rate, average-accuracy)
Rapid-fire (low-damage*, high fire-rate, poor-accuracy*)
*The accuracy/damage are balanced, so a weapon may cause high damage, but isn't very accurate, or be quite accurate but fairly weak.
The result is you have a weapons chart something like this:
Melee:
Hard-hitter: Held-weapon (e.g - pipe, baseball-bat, etc.)
All-rounder: Mighty-boot
Rapid-fire: Punches
Projectile:
Hard-hitter: Shotgun
All-rounder: Pistol
Rapid-fire: Chain-gun
Energy:
Hard-hitter: Alien-shotgun equivalent
All-rounder: Alien pistol
Rapid-fire: Alien rifle
Explosive:
Hard-hitter: RPG (biggest-bang, slowest firing)
All-rounder: Pipe-bombs (can throw quickly, detonate remotely, good tactical weapon with good ammo)
Rapid-fire: Devastator (fires fast but not super-accurate)
Special:
Hard-hitter: Shrink-ray (one-hit "kill" against most enemies)
All-rounder: Trip-mines (tactical, good damage)
Rapid-fire: Freezer (fires quickly, low typical damage)
Just some thoughts. But basically if you're fighting enemies vulnerable to energy, then you pick from energy weapons depending on situation. So if the enemies are close you might use the alien-shotgun.

You use 15 weapons and your categories are fitted for your vision, but if I use 40 weapons :D
The categories depends of our weapons that we propose for the game and how much weapons we want.
If you use 15 up to 30 this will be fine but for more :S
like mine if I use only 15 my categories are useless

Duke should have one crazy weapon for close combat... my idea is a big block of highly radioactive material placed into a gun like thing that reflects the radiation towards the enemy. To fire it you just open a hatch in the other end of this tubegun and point it at the enemies... and then watch them boil. This gun could also make other stuff in the environment go puff... like television screens and cameras. Ofcourse this gun would cause big suffering to the enemy that is being "boiled" alive.
and ofcourse you should have these huge radiation logos all around the gun and a cliché green glow.

Think of the Desolator. This gun dose the above, but may also be planted on the ground and used as a Radioactive Trap. The Ground will glow sickly green, and entity will melt. This could be simulated with entitys falling though the world half way and there skin turning green, then disaperaing.

The most first crazy games were made for the build engine
Duke nukem 3D, Shadow warrior, Blood 1, redneck rampage
Most of those games uses interesting concepts for a 2.5 D engine
Duke 3D have breakable walls is specified points, we can see the firsts special effects like shrink, freeze, the firsts tactical weapons, destroy cadavers, use a foot at the same time we use our weapon.
Shadow warrior use a secondary fire to change weapon modes, we have the firsts effects by gas weapons, the effects by a sword, the shurikens and the ability to recover them if they are on an accessible wall, the first projectile delay for bullet weapons and the firsts drivable vehicles in a FPS game and many original weapons.
Blood 1 The first true secondary fire mode, the cheapest flame thrower ! the first game where we can shoot heads like a ball !
In redneck we can see the firsts real weapons AK 47 ?original weapons and some special effects like the others build engine games.
Those games are a piece of art and fun many newer games uses weapons from those games: HL, Unreal, Quake and many others.
I think our Duke is like those games and the style is using hilarious weapons mixed with more classic weapons.
About the desolator's gun from RA 2 it's an interesting weapon for a FPS, but we must use a Hazard suit or the protective boots from the old Duke 3D
And I don't know if someone plays to the Unreal4ever mod or the Chaos UT mod, because some weapons are perfectly fitted for duke.
Some weapons looks cheap and this style makes the game more funny

I just thought of a random idea.
Inspired by Auston Powers, there should a Fembot some where with machine gun tits. After dipatching her, you may take these machine guns and use it for a chest mounted machine gun (with latex brests over them still, but slightly ripped apart)
This gun automaticly fires at hostiles.
I also came up with an idea from HL2.
Think of the crobow. ad a bungee cord to one end.
There is a place that you must reach over an obstical.
Fire at an apropriate spot and see duke Fly.
Once the shot hits something, duke will be released and will hopefuly land under the obstical.
I also think there should be an authentic lazer.
Its a beam that is increased in power depending on how much light is around the fireing positon. The gun is powerd up in light like a batery.
When ready to fire it sends out a destructive beam. It cuts though entitys to make room for its beam. the beam when high on energy is a powerful insta gib killer, but on low power, it simply lets out a red beam that is practicaly harmless, the shot may also reflect off shiney things.

How about little explosive fliers (that look like miniature stealth bombers, sleek and black)? Once fired from a gun, their little wings snap open (they're about the size of a hand) and they glide along slowly, tracking an enemy. Once it gets close enough (to any enemy), it explodes.
The downsides are that it's a slow projectile, and that it runs out of gliding power and explodes after a certain radius. The upsides are that it's an explosion, they track enemies, and you can fire a lot off at once. Handy for enemies round the corner or behind cover.

I don't know why, but this gave me the idea of a weapon that is one part wood chipper, one part flechette gun. Stick in the limbs of your fallen foes, and use their bone chippings as ammunition.

Anyway, I remember that back then at DN3D, there was an alien who had the chaingun wielded to his body me thinks... what if you had to rip his hand from his body to take his gun? I know, it's a bit, err.... a bloody affair :P
EDIT: I've got another idea - on DN3D there was a weapon which could freeze opponents. What if you could freeze the ground, so that whenever the enemies pass through they get stuck on the ground for a few moments? Just an idea lol dw
