Hi guys :)

I'm new at this, so I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I started to increase the FSB gradually, and when I got 2,09GHz the computer simply doesn't turn on, and I have to take out the BIOS jumper to load default settings.

It's supposed this processor is extremely OC-able (over 3 GHz), what's wrong with it? Maybe some voltage issue? My mobo is an Asus P5NSLI.

Another thing is driving me nuts are the memory latencies. According to this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820220095, they should be 4-4-4-12. However, in the computer says 4-7-7-31... WHY? :(

Thanks in advance guys.

Do you have proper cooling to make up for the overclock? Stock heatsinks and fans rarely get the job done especially if you're aiming for an über-OC.

I use a ThermalRight XP-120 with a 120mm Panaflo fan (it won't fit your CPU, i'm just giving you an example of proper cooling).

As far as RAM goes, you could try carefully upgrading the BIOS in your motherboard.

[Edit]: Clarified something.

Don't have proper cooling, however when I had it OC-ed to 2,09 it never went over 40ºC with stock cooling.

I know that if I want to OC it to 3+ GHz I do need another cooling solution, but my question is: why it becomes unstable with a so small OC? That shouldn't happen :(

As for RAMs, I simply changed it manually to 4-4-4-12 in the BIOS, and worked superbly :)

As you thought earlier, you need to adjust the NB voltage:

It also seems the multiplier is locked at 7x

Oh man!! Thanks a lot for that article :D I'll start messing with it immeadiately.

I'll tell ya how it goes ;)

Roger that o/

Good luck and be careful ;)

Yeah, be careful with voltages.

One thing you should keep in mind (if you didn't know) is that memory frequency scales with FSB frequency. Therefore if you overclock the cpu you either need to raise the memory divider, raise memory voltage, or get better ram.

Usually the best way to is change CPU multiplier and keep the memory FSB on 1:1 divider. Also the straps change, depending on motherboard / chipset. For my P5B Deluxe the strap changes after 400FSB.
