I was just looking through a few of the reviews over at Ferrango and I happened to check out the Max Payne review for the PS2. Now, I don't own a PS2 but I was just curious images/icons/wink.gif

Anyway, it looks like the pics they are using are not from the PS2 version because the texturing looks too good compared to other pics I've seen. That said, they could be.

There is one pic though that confuses me because I can't remember any other levels with reflective flooring other than the Bonus level. I'm thinking maybe I missed something when I played the game on my old system and if I played it again on my new Gf3 based system, new graphical beauty would come out? Who knows.

Anyway, here's the pic. Anyone recognise the level? And if it is a pic from the PS2 version, I think I'd be pissed that they got something extra images/icons/wink.gif

Its a picture of an old level. I think remedy decided to not put the reflective floors in the game and just put the reflective floors in the bonus level.

Correct, and FYI, it's an early version of the Asgard building.

yeah, and the thing is... it's such an easy trick to do.. the room is mirrored with the floor semi transparent... Wish I thought of that...

How do you get to the bonus level?

I think you guys should have kept the reflective floor in that level. It looks cool<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Yeah, until some wiseguy points out it doesn't reflect people..

(this issue was neatly avoided in the screenshot by not showing anything under Max's feet, as you can see)

It looks ten times better, that's for sure. But it's a bit gimmicky too, I didn't see a polish boy in there, and all the filthy old lads has gone there... images/icons/rolleyes.gif

I figured as much.

Anyway, are 'true' reflective surfaces making their way into the engine for future games? I noticed how cool the effect looks in 3DMk2K1 images/icons/smile.gif

Sorry, but it's too early to comment on that at this point.

It all depends on how much CPU it may use in the game, how long it'll take to implement (the reflective floor you saw in 3DM2K1 was custom-built code that won't work in a full game), and if implemented, how much time the work will take away from more pressing matters.

Fooled you! graemlins/hhg.gif *evil cackle*

Be wary of game screenshots. But be glad that Remedy doesn't resort to retouched / manipulated / rendered game screenshots like some game companies do.

The reflective surfaces do look pretty cool but I would rather not have them and have it play fast on my machine images/icons/smile.gif

Sorry, I don't care about you and your machine images/icons/wink.gif images/icons/wink.gif

Skaven,

Thanks for the reply images/icons/smile.gif Or should I say, thanks for the non-reply images/icons/wink.gif

If they put these reflective floors in future games, an option to disable it is essential. For the record, MP's bonus level runs ultra-slow on my system (like permanent slow-mo) while every other level without this gimmick runs smoothly. As 3D Realms says, "frame-rate is god".

Uhmmm, the bonus is SUPPOSED to be in slo-mo!

LOLz, well on one hand this makes me feel much better about my cpu's abilites... yet on the other I feel a tad silly images/icons/tongue.gif
