That's what happens when I put in my burned copy. Yes, I did buy the game, but I tried making a backup copy in case the original is damaged, since every cd I own has at least 500 scratches in them, but it didn't work. Read somewhere you have to do something something that I'm gonna mention cuz warez is bad m'kay? images/icons/shocked.gif

Some possibilities I can think of:
It's an illegal copy. Does it look fake, or does it look like the real thing? Was it shipped in a DVD case? Did the DVD case cover art and manual look legitimate?
It's a legitimate CD, but damaged, and the damage interferes with Safedisc verification.
It's a legitimate CD, but your CD/DVD-ROM drive is incompatible with Safedisc, making verification difficult or impossible.

Try going to My Computer, right clicking on the Max CD, going to 'Explore,' and copying all the contents from the CD to the harddrive. Then install it from the harddrive using Setup.exe.

That won't work.
If the Safedisc key is missing (pirate copy) or is unreadable (damaged CD or incompatible drive) that error will still occur when Max Payne is started, whether it was installed from the CD or from files on a hard drive, network share, etc.
