does anyone know if there are any mods or something that add in things from the n64 version of duke such as the dum dum rounds, explosive shotgun shells, and being able to save babes for end level statistics like in the 64 version and stuff like that?

Well, it'd be illegal to add the weapons and that stuff, but Nuclear Showdown lets you save babes. Maybe James will add dum dum rounds and explosive shells - dunno.

I never really thought too much about adding them in as I haven't come across those ammo types in DN64 myself yet, but I might try and attempt to add them in at some point in the future :)

The dum dums can be found in the secret store in Hollywood Holocaust, forgot where you can find some explosive shells. The name speaks for itself though, basically when it hits a wall/enemy it creates an explosion instead of several bullet holes.

Yeah, I found them both today - the explosive shells are cool but the dum dum rounds didn't act any differently to the pistol rounds except for doing more damage which is kinda boring (at least I didn't notice any other effects) If I were to add them I'd make them cause more bloody wounds and have a more powerful firing sound effect as well.

Technicly it wouldnt do anything different except be more destructive and you cant really see that. So the more powerful sound is silly, but the bloody wound is pretty realistic.

I know it's not realistic, but I don't really care about realism in this regard and am more concerned with making it's use entertaining - otherwise it's just a pistol round that acts exactly the same but does more damage which is boring.

Then do something else. Its simple really.

uh what? I don't see what your problem is here, making the Dum-Dum rounds make a different sound effect isn't exactly a big problem or something stupid like that, it just makes it more interesting to use.

Wait what... all this complaining about realism -- Let me get one thing straight.. we're still playing games, right?

Because - I don't know. As a Duke/Postal 2/take a pick player, it seems pretty self-contradictory to be complaining about realism in a simple mod. Unless of course you think those games are realistic. Which they're not, btw.

Could've sworn Duke was a documentary...

I don't know about Postal 2.

I didnt say anything about realism, but even Duke has some realism, doesnt it?

So why not just call them incindary rounds, rather than Dum Dums, because that would be more fitting? ;-)

alright call me dumb but why would it be illegal? dont people make mods that have new weapon models or enemies that are from different games? for example ive played custom wads and stuff that put enemies from doom into duke nukem. isnt making weapons that are similar to the ones im talking about pretty much the same thing?

Well.. no. Apart from falling down when you're in the air (without the jetpack) and 'being able' to drown there's no realism in it at all.

I really don't see why either since GT is long gone (or at least bought out). But you can still make them for yourself.

What about Shotguns? Pistols? Rocket Launchers? Kicking stuff? Fire Hydrants? Cities? ;)

Well, the shotgun requires no reloading, the RPG can hold 50 rockets and you can fire it with little recoil, you can kick while running... I wouldn't call that realistic. ;)

Oh, and the Protozoid Slimer does little damage even though it connects to your nervous system.

Jblade

Duke can also kick Protozoid slimers off his face somehow :D

Pistols?

For some reason the pistol can hit a target 2 miles away at perfect accuracy.

Fire Hydrants? Cities? ;)

For some reason you can kick fire hydrants and destroy them that way. And you can drink water from them. And not get diarrhea. :p

For some reason cities only have 1 accessible street.

Even still, there is some amount of realism, all throughout the game. All games have some realism, even Postal.

Then please, tell me what it is.

- Falling when in the air without jetpack
- Bullets destroy or kill stuff

Anything else beside that?

Commando Nukem

His point is dum dum rounds wouldn't change the effect of the weapon. If a pigcopy dies without requiring me to reload the pistol then I think i'll notice I got the dum dums. Some of us are smart enough to recongnise firepower for what it is, and don't need a new power-house sound to clue us in. :). However we ARE talking about Duke Nukem. Massive Space Stations and moon bases, teleporters, shrink rays, Horny aliens stealing our chicks... Not exactly a realistic scenario here.

I think what requires most talent is the creation (from scratch) of models or sprites. I'm not particularily against ripping stuff, but I wouldn't say it requires any talent (besides the know-how of what buttons you have to press)
