View Full Version : 3DR Server Reports

Ran some reports today on the weblogs for the various websites and the ftp site that comprise our "webserver". Got some interesting numbers.
The http figure covers these websites: www.3drealms.com, forums.3drealms.com, & www.dopefish.com. Obviously ftp covers ftp transfers. :)
Bandwidth usage from Jan 1-May 31, 2007
http: 876.11Gb
ftp: 1202.15Gb (1.2Tb)
Total Bandwidth: 2078.26Gb (2.07Tb)
I've also run a report on the http traffic that shows things like browser preferences, OS preferences, search engine stuff, crap like that. I'm going to post that, but I have to run through it and make sure I'm not showing any sensitive information (like people's IP addresses, some private shit on our server, etc, etc..) Once I post that I think you'll get a kick out of the results. You'd be surprised at what operating systems show up in the report still. Granted, not many visits, but the fact that they are there at all is fairly amusing (things like OS/2, BeOS, WinCE, IRIX, and "HP Unix", which had a total of 4 visits all year). :)
Some more FTP breakdown. There were a total of 379,744 files transferred, and (according to Webalizer) 677,437 "hits". If I understand the report right, a "hit" for the FTP logs also includes errors, because one of the top 10 ranked files is for the Max Payne 1 v1.02 patch which is no longer on our server. It's in the top 10 for hits, but has zero bytes transferred. There is probably also things like FTP accelerators which I would guess would count for 1 file transferred but a lot more "hits" than that. That's my theory. :)

Double? I expect the forums to be offline for at least a day.

You mean Gigabits or GigaBytes? If you meant Gigabits then the bandwidth would be 259.8 GigaBytes. I'm used to seeing the latter.

I'm curious to see the OS and browser preferences...
DNF will kill the internet.
No, it will melt... :dopefish:

Gigabytes, Mr. Pedantic. :)

Gigabytes, Mr. Pedantic. :)
Okay, let's see if I can be even more pedantic. :dopefish:
Do you mean "gigabyte" (10^9 bytes, like the evil hard disk manufacturers redefined it) or gibibyte (2^30 bytes)?

"(2^30 bytes)" = Gigabyte. I refuse to give in to that ridiculous and wrong terminology involving "Gibi" and what not.
Anyway it is really nice to see that this site still gets alot of traffic. Interesting that. I mean those are some really big numbers. How does it compare with previous years, Joe ?
Also funny that you still get visitors using OS's like HP-UX and what not.

Come on, don't trash the thread with stuff like that and make me regret doing this. If all that can happen when I post things is people tearing it apart with stuff like that, I won't be inclined to share anymore. Knock it off, eh?

How many hits did you get with the PSP/PS3/DS/Wii? ;)

It is always interesting to see who, from where, on what is visiting a site. Do you have browser preferences also? I imagine you do, but is there any striking browser use out there (like IE 4 or something like that)?

I couldn't find the previous "3DR Server" thread, but did the closure of General Messages cause a drop in HTTP transfer?

I can't believe someone is using Windows 3.x to visit here.

When DNF is unveiled KaiserSoze will be heard from the International Space Station shouting in orgasmic excitement. And then the internet will melt.
Although, I am sure they (Joe and crew) are always prepared for things failing, backups of backups; the ISP on speed dial; server upgrades (bandwidth, actual hardware upgrades, etc) ready the week before the unveiling; things like that.

Next time I do reports, I'll look into that. Was a pain to do that thing, since I had to spend a lot of time making sure no confidential information was in the report.

Was trying to see if I could my age-old PDA on the 'net. Took forever, don't even think a full page loaded up.
