^ "Pharoah's Ascent" pretty fun.

Pretty much what you do is use elements like blocks to free the ankh, which you then roll into a certain spot to open a doorway. There are obstacles about - the blocks can crush you, there may be enemies or other hazards in the way. Other levels are a bit different and much more challengin - some have ladders/mazes to traverse, or you have to shoot/push certain blocks away to topple a particular path.

Most puzzle games really bore me because they're usually just blocks and no character/consequence involved. I'm hoping there's something either very similar to PA here, or at least some character-driven puzzle game(s) for DS.

Have you tried Puzzle Quest? I think it offers a lot of what you're looking for.

Looking at screenshots - not really. The gameplay there is still standard puzzle-type pieces.

I like stuff similar to Sokoban or Chip's Challenge, have to think a bit strategically, and has some kind of level/environment.

Ah, well, the screenshots really don't tell the whole story. Puzzle Quest is essentially an RPG combined with Bejeweled. Each puzzle grid is a battle with an enemy. You combine red, blue, yellow, and green gems to build up your mana reserves which you use to unleash spells, combine skulls to do direct damage to your adversary, match purple stars to gain experience (in addition to that earned through defeating your opponent), and match gold pieces to add wealth to your coffers. Whenever you level-up, you can increase various attributes to make your character a more effective warrior, and you can find or purchase equipment to further enhance his abilities. Outside of combat, you travel a map from town to town picking up quests and engaging random beasties in battle.

There are a few other elements (such as taking on companions or capturing creatures), but that's about it in a nutshell.

I don't know MM, it sounds like he wants something different. I would kill for a chips challenge / Paganitzu DS. I haven't found anything like that yet though Phait. If you do let me know.

Ummm...Rocket Slime?

It's sort of like a game of Sokoban where you get to control tanks. Pretty nice, I think.
