View Full Version : If there's another patch

All of the patches so far have dealt with tech changes - nothing new feature wise has been added. I seriously doubt that policy will change.

Yes. As said previously on this forum, a demo record feature would require a major framework overhaul. It's similar to multiplayer code in fact, so if Max had that, it would probably also have demo recording.
But then, you can be glad about the things Max Payne has because it doesn't have multiplayer code in it. Multiplayer code places limitations in the other aspects of the engine.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I remember in Duke3d that if you were quick into the menu you could turn on recording then watch your opponents view in multiplayer images/icons/grin.gif So maybe demo recording was a bit too close to multi in that game images/icons/smile.gif

About the multiplayer thing.... I still can't understand why every shooter, it seems, just has to have a multiplayer option in it. Most of them suck/are not played anyway. I'm all for the 'great SP game' or 'great MP game' concept.
RtCW Single Player was pretty much ruined because they (id) devoted money and resources into including Multiplayer. Sure, the SP game was ok but it could have been so much better. As for the MP aspect, I was disappointed to see that no real effort was put into making dedicated MP maps (except one... the best one by far as it happens) and adding another gametype or two. But then, id have always relied on the Mod community to finish off their games for them images/icons/wink.gif
Other SP games that have MP (either out of the box or later in a patch): Kingpin, Unreal, DeusEx, FAKK2, NOLF, Elite Force, AvP2, etc. And how many people actually play these games online? Almost no one.
So why do they get "marked-up" in reviews for 'replayability'? Buggered if I know. I'm much more likely to play an excellent SP game through a few times (Unreal, Max Payne, Deus Ex, Undying, NOLF) than play a half-hearted 'best of both worlds' game (RtCW, Elite Force, AvP) ever again.
That's enough ranting for now images/icons/wink.gif

....would it be possible to add a 'Demo Record' function? I kinda get the feeling that the answer is no, otherwise I assume it would already have been done images/icons/wink.gif But maybe (hopefully) I'm wrong.
Anyone?
what limitations does multi player put on an engine? or demo recording for that matter?
