To my mind, fashion ~= fascism -- fair enough if the boss wants to guide me on what to wear at work, but when I'm casual, I won't wear what some idiots in France want to dictate. Cobblers to designer labels or what David Beckham's got on, it's my money and I'd rather spend it on things that actually make me happy :tinyted:
I wear "sweat pants" (or "tracksuit trousers" as we call them :p) around the house, because they're loose and therefore comfortable. If I'm too lazy to put proper trousers on, I'll wear them when I go to the nearby shops, but I wouldn't wear them anywhere important, or I'd be mistaken for a chav :o

Not entirely. While I do prefer a good pair o'black boots and a solid leather jacket I don't care what brands I buy or where I buy it from, as long as it looks good on me. I've bought from Good Will and got more clothes with $30 than I ever could.
The thing is though if you're the kind of person who pays attention to what they wear and how it coordinates etc., it does make usually a good impression. So I have nothing against fashion in that sense. But some people go out of their way and follow trends just to appear either different (when they're actually no different) or noticeable. It's a good thing to make a solid impression, but it's bad to scream attention. Sometimes you can mix the two though. I don't usually wear a fedora but I had a kind of casual thing going on at New Years 2 years ago and wore a black fedora, and suddenly I'm noticed. Guys wanted to try the hat on and a chick liked the hat and wore it, so we got some drinks and had a good night.

This is what i wear: Jeans, black boots, usually black shirt or white ones, shades , i never go out without my bracelet, rings, depending on the day i'll wear an open shirt. It depends. I like to wear expensive clothing for some reason, so everytime i get ahold of some cash i go out and buy the best i can.

I haven't personally bought any clothes in years. Any new clothes (aside from a few business suits) from the past seven years were picked out by my ex-fiancée. Which was great because I didn't have to actually go shopping. So now I have about 4 pair of regular jeans, 2 pair of khaki slacks, two pair of black slacks, a crap load of polo type shirts, and a ton of button up shirts. So I've got many different combos to choose from. I prefer wearing tennis shoes or sandals whenever possible.
I also have too many t-shirts and a wide variety of shorts to chose from. I prefer solid, primary color clothes. Nothing too trendy, just relaxed and comfortable.
Besides a watch, I don't wear any type of jewelry or accessory.

For me:
T shirt and Basketball shorts in the summer.
T shirt and Cargo Pants for when its a little colder.
Fleece Pull-over/Sweater/Jacket and Cargo pants when it gets pretty cold.
And yea I go to walmart, target, and places like that most of the time when I need clothes. Im not rich and most clothes arent worth a ton of money. I once saw a scarf for 70 dollars at Bananna Republic. Seriously, that is stupid to pay that much for a 3-4 foot long piece of cloth.

I had a job interview at Old Navy years ago, and the manager informed me employees get like 20% to 30% off at BR, and up to 40% to 50% at affiliate/subsidiary stores like GAP etc.
Oh another thing - I'm the kinda guy who will wear a light sweater or hoody on a warm day. I dunno, they're just comfortable no matter what. I almost never wear shorts though.

While I'm not going to be wearing stuff from the dark ages, I'm not that much into fashion. Most of the time I wear jeans and one of my many black-ish T-shirts and it suits me fine. Of course you could say that Jeans is from the "dark ages" but whatever ;)

Besides a watch, I don't wear any type of jewelry or accessory.
Me too , I love watches.
It's nice to look good but I think it's silly to be a a slave to fashion trends. A bunch of people will just declare that what looked good last year doesn't look good this year and you should buy all new stuff. I know women who spend a huge chunk of their pay on keeping up with trends set for them by a group of people in a room on Madison ave, it's almost sad.
It also drives me nuts that regular girls are now spending a week or two of pay for a handbag that should be 20% the price it is just because famous people buy them.

Fashion trends also like to recycle and incorporate retro style looks. I've got a few of my dad's shirts from the the '70s (he was in his 20's then like I am now) that are now "back in style." I think they must have been made to survive an atomic bomb attack because they are still in good shape almost 40 years later. :)

All my clothes I use, I choose by how comfortable they feel and how good they look on me, no matter the brand or label.
I don't mind people dressing up with the latest fashion, but the thing I hate about fashion is that because of it, the type of clothes I personally like are never available and I'm lucky if I can find some clothes I like once in two years. Goddamn bastards.

Shoes though, I like to spend a minimum of $150 on a pair of runners every year.
My watch. I like to buy a new one every 2-3 years. My most recent was just under $450. A Bulova.
I like buying a new Baseball hat every 3-6 months. Always MLB, always New ERA 59FIFTY.
You can always match nice hats with average outfits to make your whole look better.
Haven't yet decided on my new MLB hat, but I'm leaning towards:

I have a watch, regular old watch. I think it was fifty bucks from wal-mart or something. As long as it tells time I don't really care. That is the only piece of jewelry I own.... other than my wedding ring, but I don't have to wear that until September. ;)
While it is up to your own personal preference, I'm not a fan of people that spend ungodly amounts of money on their clothes... just so they can look a certain way.
I would rather people dressed more down to earth, more realistically. Maybe it's just me, I could afford to run out and spend tons of money on clothes... but I don't.
Why bother? I spend the majority of my day at work, and the rest of the time at home either alone or with Bon.

Yep. My watch will always be digital, regardless of lack of style, because I use it to TELL TIME. Not to look cool. So if it takes me longer than 5 seconds to determine the time then it's worthless.

That used to be my attitude with watches. Digital FTW. But I've started to realize that jewlerry and stuff can help you to feel good, depending what your style is. Of course, no amount of shit can change your overall attitude or emotions or what-have-you but they can help reflect what's inside. And it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. For instance, the stuff I just bought can be termed as fake bling-bling. Really, they're not valuable at all. But as long as they project the right image, who cares? :)

At the end of the day, it's just clothes, and like sport, it shouldn't be taken too seriously -- you won't die for wearing the wrong thing! (Unless you're in gang territory!) In other words, don't let the fashion fascists dictate what you should be wearing, just chill ;)

Mostly my own style, layered clothes, 3/4 shorts in the summer. I prefer dark green, black, dark brown, red, white. It all depends. I don't go for "designer" clothes, some well known brands and some not so well known - suffice for me. Certain occasions need certain outfits, so that varies too, I own a suit, ties, shirts to go with that and so on. Also sometimes I wear metalband T-shirts, that is not too fashionable at the moment, but I don't care as long as I like them.
Sum it up, I don't follow fashion, and I don't categorize my self to any certain thing. My watch just broke, so that might be something I would buy next, simplistic. Bling bling is not for me, baggy shorts not for me, hoodies not for me.

07-26-2007, 01:48 PM
But you implied that being into fashion was directly connected to being a teenager ;) .
It is about how much you read in to things. First we should have same definition for "being into fashion". Does it mean you just think what you wear? Or is it more of buying things that are "in fashion"? I can't tell, I think it is those both and well beyond - so I don't consider myself being into fashion.

No, if you like to wear what everyone else is wearing, you're a slave of fascists :p
TBH I only buy clothes to replace old clothes that have worn out, like peoplessi. Amazingly, I had two pairs of trousers that were bought at the same time give out at the crotch/seat area at almost exactly the same time -- luckily, the seat gave out in one as I was bending down to look at the post when I'd just got in the front door, otherwise that could have been nasty :o
DavoX
07-26-2007, 02:04 PM
I don't get people that say that dressing using a trend is bad, because in the end you're using what you like to wear, unless someone uses it forced, then that's bad.
But as you said, it's just clothes, but that should be for fashionists and non-fashionists as well, so don't diss people that dress how they want, it's just clothes ;).

That is not a big sum for watch, if you are going to keep for ten years. Some people might put 10x that sum for a watch, and not being too rich either. So it all depends. There have been numerous times that I've seen a nice watch and then look at the price - over 1000$ way too much for my current budget. Somewhere in the distant future I might just get some watch that is around 400$-800$.

I'm a dedicated 1950's Rockabilly revivalist. Cuffed blue jeans and white T-Shirts everyday. Black every so often. Get a lot of lame jokes for it, but you can't dispute that I've got style.
Unfortunately the mainstram has taken notice of the look and it's coming back, in the usual perverted, horribly wrong, artificial way.

That is not a big sum for watch, if you are going to keep for ten years.
It is at the risk of losing it. That said, I haven't lost my current watch yet - but shit happens to small things especially :D

Tiger of Sweden doesn't really ring any bells, and they have designs that I dont really care about.
.
People who are REALLY in to fashion, knows about tiger of sweeden.
But let me make it simple for ya ;)
http://www.tigerofsweden.com/
But you have to know, that Fashion, is not what is fashionable right now.
Its what becomes Fashion in half a year ... Always be ahead of your time.
But there are different kinds of fashion.
Its always good to mix :)
An example.
On this picture, i wear classic "Nice GuY" brands, even though they experiment in the cassics. Mads Nørgaard Shirt, Samsøe+Samsøe Vest, and accessories from Dyrberg Kern.

On this picture the style differs totally from the first. Its more "Popish", Girlhunting, player style (at least in Denmark).
Home made T-Shirt showing alot of the chest (Very popular there days), Gucci Limited Sunglasses, Accessories from Dyrberg Kern.

Sorry, but to me the bottom photo illustrates the fashion of women and men has crossed over :o
I have to say though I've seen makeover shows and it is AMAZING what kind of impression a person can give just from new, better clothes and 'polishing up' of looks alone. (THough I despise makeup).

Before: perhaps a mother of 2 or someone who's been teaching for several years, just not that interesting
After: someone perhaps in charge in business, motivated, confident - interesting

Well, seeing as to how much money you have to spend on clothes, well...you surely have some more to spend on food :P, you know protein like chicken, tuna, turkey, eggs, milk , protein shakes, etc...If your metabolism is TOO fast then you can even introduce some "bad" foods with lots of calories like hamburgers and that shitty stuff, you'll get muscles if you eat more calories than your body burns , but that's for that other thread :p.

I Dont spend that much money on clothing. Not as much, as i spend on the Clubs, Games, Movies, Poker, Hi-Fi, Furniture, RENT etc.

im an engineer what do you think?
haha, no im not into fashion, I prefer normal clothing. Dockers, with polo shirt, or a business suite, but usually I just hang around in normal fit jeans with a T-shirt. i prefer to spend as little as possible for my everyday wear.
a 20-30$ paid of jeans work for me no need to spend more then that.

If it were up to me everyone would be wearing simple, comfortable, and functional clothing, mostly undyed and unbleached. Any details would be reflective ones, so one would be more readily visible to traffic during the darker hours. It need not be ugly, but then again, I see beauty in simplicity.
