Where have you been and stayed long enough to experience?

A rundown of where I've been:

Arizona
My dad is friends with an ex-NFL player (LeShon Johnson). He is of course very into football and we live half an hour from Green Bay so he would go up there to see the Packers practice and such. So over 10 years ago he met LeShon there and found they had much in common. Eventually LeShon went to different teams - such as Arizona Cardinals. So we've been all over the country to visit him and see his games.

I think we were in Flagstaff in a hotel right across from the Fender factory! I should've went, I've got a Stratocaster... Overall it was pretty nice, especially the flight in, fairly scenic with the dry but sometimes hilly land. The elevation of the stadium made me feel a bit nauseous though.

California
I was maybe 8 years old, dad and I visited family in San Diego. We also met up with one of his ol' friends out there and we drove in their truck up these winding roads up a rocky hill or mountain - these were narrow roads upon cliffs! It was kinda unnerving, but we got to the top and flew RC planes.

Chicago
Again, dad and I attended one of LeShon's games, but this time for XFL. I didn't really tour Chicago much but we were at the pier and a stadium, I liked the vibe down there though.

Cincinatti
Dad and I visited a friend of his, I was maybe 7. I don't remember anything :p

Florida
Visited my mom in '06. I took a Greyhound bus from home (Wisconsin) there - it was maybe 22 hours. Went to Chicago, through Indiana, to Tennesee (Memphis I think), St. Louis, Atlanta and then on to Tampa and finally St. Pete. Met some interesting people on the bus transfers. At Chicago we had a wait of a couple hours and this homeless black guy, maybe in his 50s - had been hanging at the stop for quite some time (weeks or months perhaps). I think he lost his job, anyway he'd asked if I could buy him a sandwich - I had no problem with that, so I bought one and we talked - it was interesting getting to know him. I also met a girl who lived here in Wisconsin but a few hours away, I gave her my e-mail and said I'd be out her way to visit my cousin that year - and maybe we could hang out. I never heard from her :tinyted:

Had more waits and stop in the other states. Atlanta was like concrete jungle, buildings everywhere - and the people, you could tell something about them that was particular to Atlanta... the way they carried themselves. They weren't rude or anything, I dunno how to explain it. Maybe they were more looking out for themselves? I met a guy on I believe the Chicago bus who lived half hour from me in Wisconsin and was en route to Florida as well. He said he would work there for a few months, come back to Wisconsin and "live like a king". We meant to grab a couple beers when he was back, but when I called him I don't think he was around.

Anyway, Florida - I was in St. Pete area, didn't tour too much, visited the beach. This was in January or February it was maybe 60s there. I was hoping to see dolphins, but I didn't. They have several good places to eat there though (Crabby Pats I think, some other good burger or seafood joints, on the piers). I'll go down there again - hell I'd live there if hurricanes weren't a problem.

Michigan
Visited here with an uncle and a cousin years ago in the winter. We ice fished on Lake Michigan and drove a 4-wheeler on the lake as well. It's fun pulling the other in a sled at 30 MPH :D

Minnesota
Went here for a cousin's wedding. Not much to write home about though, it's the Midwest :D

New Jersey
Visited LeShon for another of his games when he played for the Giants. We didn't tour New York but I think we went through part of it at night. When waiting at the Giants stadium I saw Angie Harmon (of Law & Order)! I couldn't remember her name at the time but I recognised her beautiful face.

Oklahoma
Visited LeShon again - not much interesting out there. Freakin' hot at the time we went.

Where I'd like to go:

- India/Tibet
- New Zealand (possibly move there)
- Japan
- London

A rundown of where I've been: America.

Should mere states really count in such lists? :p

In the U.S. I've visited Michigan, Florida, Indiana, California, Georgia, Arkansas, Kentucky, Colorado, and Tennessee. (Not counting how much I've traveled in my two home states, Missouri and Illinois.)

Outside the U.S.? I've been to Australia, and I almost went to Canada, but my flight was canceled. I want to take a road trip to Mexico next summer.

Jeff

Let's see.

Canada: Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario.
US: Texas.

Asia: Japan, China, Indonesia, Middle East, India. That I can remember.

Africa: Egypt (stopped at an airport in Cairo), Uganda (same thing, stopped at an airport), Kenya (went on a 2 week vacation). Mauritius (sp?) an island east of Africa in the middle of the Indian Ocean, went on another holiday for a couple weeks.

Europe: London, Paris.

Some places I might have missed. Lot of traveling during my early years when my dad had an overseas job.

I haven't traveled much :(

Never been outside the US, and the only states I've been to are North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas. I should be going to Florida for vacation sometime but dunno when.

Norway and Russia, only places I've been.

I lived in Paris for 19 years, and never went farther than the border countries: Belgium, England (London ), Italia, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Portugal. Then I moved to California and didn't see anything else in the states yet.

I want to go to Russia (preferrably during the winter in St. Petersburg), in Scandinavia and that's about it.

Phait

Would you rather live here in the states or in another country you've been to?

Plagman
08-11-2007, 08:06 PM
If I could move anywhere and still have the exact same job, I would chose a big european-style city (London or Paris). I didn't see enough of San Francisco to tell if I would enjoy living there, and I want to see NYC and LA as well for the same reasons. I really dig a huge city that's not inhabited with cars but people.

Well.... I live in Kansas, so naturally I've been to Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri. They are within driving distance... and to do any real shopping you have to drive there.

But other than that I've been to Austin, Texas... my older brother Larry went to college down there. So we went down for his graduation.

And I've been to San Antonio, Texas. Went there for Senior Trip.

That's pretty much it. :p I haven't really traveled at all... but we are going to Las Vegas for the honeymoon, so that'll be fun.
And I would love  to go to Germany. Just to see where my family came from.

Well if you had a feasible reason to go through WI we could get a drink or whatever, but don't go out of your way - it's not worth it :D Honestly once I get a car, I'd drive around to meet 3DR'ers, at least in or nearby states I have friends in.

I've gone to Las Vegas for one week out of the year the last five years. Just stayed on the strip, and haven't really cared to see the actual city. You can get the gist of the outlying areas when you fly in.

I also visited Austria, Germany and Poland.

I really liked it in Spain and Belgium, I wouldn't mind spending more time in either of these two countries.

It would be nice if you elaborated on what brought you along your travels and what they were like.

The travels around the US would take waaay too long. Essentially if you can imagine the place, and the reason for going there, I've probably hit a good percentage of those.

Stockholm: I was visiting an ex-girlfriend who was studying abroad over there.

London: I had layovers there for 10+ hours twice... both from like 8pm onward so I was able to run around and do some quick partying before heading back and doing the long flight over the ocean. I also had an accidental layover where I lost my passport and had to go to the US Embassy to get another one. That was only cool after the fact and I was on my way.

Helsinki: Visiting some friends.

Rome: Vacation. I had a long weekend over the 4th of July this year and didn't want to spend it in Dallas, or even the US. Went by myself... it was awesome.

Tokyo: A group of us wanted to go to Japan over Thanksgiving, so we did. We decided to do it a couple of weeks before we went, so it was a pretty crazy getting ready time (none of us had Passports at the time). We didn't plan anything except a hotel to stay at, and it wound up being pretty awesome.

Since you asked what they were like, here is the writeup I did for the Japan trip: http://www.gamingisstupid.com/pictures/japan/

Well, i live in spain, and it has sooo many little details that even travelling here for the last 6 summers watching almost everithing i havent seen even the 50% of the country. This year i am going to make a "mistery" trip, trough "enchanted" places, like "las hurdes", in "extremadura" (spain), where the devil has been seen several times, among loads of mithological creatures and extrange lights. Also, i am going to go to "el valle de las animas", where is said that if you sleep there, you dissapear. And "Oxate" village, in "Alava", where demon has been seen(Again), its supossed there is one door to the hell, aliens, abductions, ghosts, Electronic Voice Phenomena about spanish civil war, and others about murders, etc...

Also, a friend of mine knows the entrance to some roman dungeons in "Ciudad Real", a tunnel made to scape from the city, but the city door was closed 50 years ago and the one my friend knows has been forgotten, so we are going to be one of the first humans (there will ve pigs, rats or other things inside) in about 10 years that are going to travel inside.(will wear my hunting knife, i think i willhave to fight with rats as big as pigs with mange)

Around the world i have visited some italian cities (Florence, Rome, Sienne, Pissa, etc...) and London.

I live in Kansas, and have visited the surrounding states many times.

Colorado: By far my most visited state, for vacationing purposes. I go to Estes Park, CO consistently (in fact, I just got back). Colorado Springs, CO used to be a vacationing spot for my family.

Missouri: I may have technically been here more, because of Kansas City, but they're short visits (except for living there for 3 years). Columbia, Springfield, the Ozarks, Jeff City, and St. Louis (once) were the destinations.

I've been to the other surrounding states as well: Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma.

New Mexico: Used to vacation in Glorieta, NM. Been a while, though.

California: Spent a week in Modesto, CA with a couple visits to San Francisco. Landed in Oakland. Layover in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Texas: Visited my sister a couple times, working at a summer camp in Tyler, TX.

Cancun, Mexico: Honeymooned there. Gorgeous place, had a wonderful time, love to go back, but was very conscious that this wasn't the 'first-world living' I was accustomed to. (Long) layover in the ATL, Georgia.

I've really neglected everything east of the Mississippi River. Would love to go to Italy, New Zealand, maybe Ireland. Europe, in general, would be interesting. Israel would be something.

Okay, I was in those countries because my parents booked some hotel (or similar) there. Then I normally just follow them around for a week while staring at the ground..

And of course they always have to enter churches. They're supposed to be impressive but man, I just walk in there and sit on a bench until they are done sightseeing. It's all boring.

I've been to:

Norway - Cool mountains.
Sweden - What can I say? Sweden is sweden.
Russia - A pretty shitty place
Denmark - Rude people, bad food and the big amusement park in Copehagen's a joke.
Greece - Pretty fun. Beach, sun, 12-year-olds with mustaches. Some nice food too.
England/Scotland - I arrived in London and there took the 6+ hour train to Edinburgh. Spent about a month there. Very very nice people, great bars, drank a lot. Was lots of fun. Beautiful place. Planning on going again.
Estonia - It's like Finland but everyone talks funny.
Holland - Probably the funnest vacation ever. Spent 2 weeks there with my dutch friends. Really friendly people, nice weather and beautiful cities. Amsterdam sucked ass but I can recommend Utrecht and Groeningen. Beautiful places! Especially Utrecht. Definitely going back there sooner or later.

I think that's about it. Oh, I live in Finland. I really want to visit the States someday, always been my dream. Just going to be really expensive so I gotta save some money. Next summer I'm going to go inter railing through Europe. Poland, Germany, Holland, France, England probably. Also dying to see South Africa and Oceania.

Went back to the past - Had to help some dude out fight this guy named Biff *shrugs*

Uranus - Smelled like lemons and ass

Azeroth - got ganked a lot :/
