How do i replace the graphics for those nasty little things?
They creep the heck out of me.

oh i try. i start levels felling all hardcore ready to shove a couple hundred devestators down theyre holes but the second i hear that hatching sound i tense up and quit lol.
so like how do i just make them into like a big black box
OR can you atleast tell me how to change theyre sounds?

At first I thought you were joking, but then I noticed that you had started an almost identical thread last year. I do believe you're serious!
Open up your game.con in a text editor. Do a search for the line
spawn GREENSLIME
and comment it out by changing it to:
// spawn GREENSLIME
Likewise, you can comment out the sound:
// sound SLIM_HATCH
However, I would recommend doing something more fun, like making the eggs spawn baby aliens!

OH im serious... these bastards have stopped me from ever completing the game... if i had the art file theyre in i might be able to change the pictures... can you tell me how to do that?

Why would you want to do that when I've already told you how to remove them from the game completely? (well, aside from the ones that spawn from garbage cans and such) Anyway, I'm not going to go looking up the tile numbers for you and teach you how to use editart, etc. I will tell you that you can start by looking up the tile number for GREENSLIME in defs.con and then extract the relevant .art file from duke3d.grp and modify it.

The only explanation I can think of is that the copy of game.con you edited is not the one that actually gets loaded when you start a game. That would be the case if, for example, you were using the SD_Duke mod, which has its own cons. If you are using EDuke32, then seeing the contents of eduke32.log might help, since that shows which cons are used.

Are you using the original Duke3D or JonoF with High Resolution Pack?
If you are using the HRP, I think it should work if you delete:
highres\sprites\monsters\2370_slimer.md2
Then for example, copy 1975_pigtank.md2 and rename it to 2370_slimer.md2..
I think then it should use the pigtank model instead of the slimer.
If you are using the original Duke, then learn how to use editart (I see that you have in another thread) and replace the greenslime frames.
But that still leaves the sound.
I think it should work if you find these lines in the user.con file:
// Green slimer
definesound SLIM_HATCH slhtch01.voc -256 256 3 0 0
definesound SLIM_ROAM sliroa02.voc -256 256 3 0 0
definesound SLIM_RECOG slirec06.voc -256 256 3 0 0

That should make the green slimers make that swithcing sound.

Guy, just fine the part of the con file where the Slimer is spawned and right below the "spawn slimer" function put "killit" That should take them right out of the game.

i made them not spawn... its just if theyre a.ready in the level lets say waiting in a hallway on the roof... then theyre sstill there... im almost past it though

Do it to the regular slimer code too and it'll be taken care of. :)

There is no regular slimer code; it's a hardcoded enemy. However, if you are using EDuke32 you can delete them like this:

I didn't mention that earlier because I didn't know what he was using.
EDIT: Code changes don't take effect until you start a new game.

Exactly, even if I think that the slimers are cartoony and really stupid to be afraid of them, the severed hands in Blood still give me the creeps.

I'm the same as BlackDragoon. The slimers, facehuggers and choking hands all scare the shit out of me.

I actually deleted all the hands out of the maps once :o Unfortunately I forgot about respawn sprites, so... yeah.

You might do well to replace all the slimer animations and pictures with rabbits. Then you'll be reminded of just how funny Monty Python is every time you see one, and be laughing too much at all the great jokes therein to be worried about them.

Is it possible it doesn't work on all actors? I want to replace them with one of my own actors.
EDIT: It doesnt work on the slimers aswell.

Some commands only work on sprites that are actually defined as actors; perhaps "ifactor" is one of those commands, although I could have sworn that I have successfully used it on non-actor sprites before. Anyway, for the bottles, you could use cactor or setactor[THISACTOR].picnum to change them into your own actors.

Hm, still doesn't do anything.
Perhaps its something in their code that doesn't allow changing them or something like that.
To bad, i was hoping to give duke an little booze problem.

I would recommend NOT to do that.
After playing Shadow Warrior, he'll never touch Duke again because of the bunnies.

IF that is scary you have a nother thing coming... Put it in hrp. That will help XD. Face your fears. the only way to defeat them is to face them. If you pay attention real well you will find them pretty Easy.

the abyss' background niose scared me alot wen i was younger, i turned off clipping and tried to find out where it came from, now that i know more about duke i know it was just some stupid music and sound effects sprite :mad: :o :dopefish:

I know what you mean by scary, They come up on you when you dont expect them. But at the end of the day, its only a videogame, The slimer is just a set of coloured pixels to look like a scary monster.
There are worse scary things out there like weirdos, stalkers, pshycos roaming the streets of a dark night.
But i admit, Things from movies/videogames can be scary when youre younger, Weird innit!

When I was younger, I never got creeped out by the Slimers because they didn't stand a chance against you, but what did creep me out were the exploding Drones, since they meant death on almost every occasion.

My brother was such an ******* to me when I was younger. Whenever we were playing Duke64 coop together, I'd always throw the controller down and cover my eyes with my hands when we encountered slimers; he'd purposely get a slimer on my face and tell me they were all gone. :( :D
When I first played the Overlord level (with literally the entire boss room covered with eggs) I ran out of the room screaming.

Those things used to scare me quite a bit when playing Duke3D, I couldn't even pass the game because of slimers. What got me past my fear was quick-kicking through them. They couldn't even get to you face as long as you held down the quick-kick key. (I have mine bound to the Q key)
Micki, I can't even pass the Predator or Colonial Marine missions because of those damn facehuggers.
However, I can think of something even scarier than standard slimers. G*atse Slimers, now those would be scary :eek:

Off topic:
Aliens are easy to take down in predator if you have your disk and are set to the right veiw mode, also the speargun is deadly
on marine: they are supposed to add atmospere like in doom 3 and they succeed quite nicely just face your fears

But I remember I used to play a Alien-style of DN3D mod(*), I got scared!
Because of when I got killed by enemy and somethings "spit" on screen.
Then I quitted game and terminated that mod from my HD.

SSTTC is fine for me.
I only got scare from that mod(NOT means SSTTC).
That blood-like thing spit on screen and coverd status bar. I don't like that.

Why do you even play Duke if you get scared? And how old are you... You must be younger than 15 which is the games rating... So you shouldnt be playing in the first place.

I first time to play DN3D at 15 and I didn't ******* care that game rating shit.
And there wasn't any game rating system on my region on 8 years ago.
I DIDN'T GET SCARED by ORIGINAL DN3D itself. OK? :censored:
