Has anyone here thought of remaking the Max Payne levels from either game on the Source engine? Along with the characters, weapons, etc for multiplaying / deathmatches? Because it would be pretty damn awesome!

My apologies if this has already been done.

I canīt imagine a reason to remake the singleplayer...adding a multiplayer compontent could be cool though. But there is already a Max Payne-esque multiplayer mod called "The Specialists" for Half-Life.

I wasn't referring to the singleplayer aspect, hence why I said "for multiplaying / deathmatches"... :p

I'm not familiar with "The Specialists", but I'll check it out. Still, it would be extremely nice to have an authentic Max Payne multiplayer on the Source engine, where you're able to visit all the old locations from the games, use the same weapons, and meet with familiar faces.

It's possible. Slow motion can be coded, the animations and levels can be converted/remade and the sounds can easily be ported over.

Finding a team to do it? Extremely hard. :(

Itīs illegal to remake Max Payne levels in other engines!!!

It's also illegal to make a Street Fighter or Matrix mod, seeing as we don't own the rights to those franchises.

..Way to spoil the fun. :(

Its only a mod and not something people gonna take money for if they made it. so its not really illegal. not more that matrix, streetfighter, hitman and the list go's on. like zomb said.

I think it sounds interresting.

I know. But 3Drealms disnīt allowed to make a DN3D mod for HL2. So I donīt think that they will allow you to make an Max Payne mod for the source engine.

Actually Take 2 own the copyrights for Max Payne, not 3D Realms. As such it's up to Take 2 to decide that.

With any mod like this it's always best to get permission from Take 2 before proceding with the development.

Not really. CAPCOM welcomes third party non-commercial, non-defaming works, they aren't selfish cnd heads

My point was that people make modifications based on popular franchises without permission all the time.

And some of those people get shutdown all the time.

I've never heard of a mod being told to stop. That happen a lot in HL2?

I guess co-op might be kind of fun, deathmatch would be a complete regurgitation of Dead Man Walking.

Doing it right would be a hefty job though. Making more detailed versions of Max Payne 2's models, higher resolution textures, maybe smoother animations. It'd certainly need to be third person, but I don't think the average HL2 player will accept that.

Then comes the ten page back and forth about how to use bullet time in multiplayer.

Well TS has everything in line for how slomo would work in multiplayer etc. so there could be borrowed some portions here and there to make this come true.

All the Aliens mods were shutdown by Fox (there the term you will be foxed used when someone wanted to make a alien mod), even 3drealms shutdown a Duke Nuken mod and asked to one MaxPayne2 moder to take out the Duke sounds from is mod.
