View Full Version : Meteorite causes mysterious illness in Peru

Should we start preparing for a zombie holocaust? :D I wonder what's the real disease.

Villagers in southern Peru were struck by a mysterious illness after a meteorite made a fiery crash to Earth in their area, regional authorities said today.

Around midday Saturday, villagers were startled by an explosion and a fireball that many were convinced was an airplane crashing near their remote village, located in the high Andes department of Puno in the Desaguadero region, near the border with Bolivia.

Residents complained of headaches and vomiting brought on by a "strange odor," local health department official Jorge Lopez told Peruvian radio RPP.

Seven policemen who went to check on the reports also became ill and had to be given oxygen before being hospitalized, Lopez said.

Rescue teams and experts were dispatched to the scene, where the meteorite left a 30-metre-wide and six-metre-deep crater, said local official Marco Limache.

"Boiling water started coming out of the crater and particles of rock and cinders were found nearby. Residents are very concerned," he said.

Meteorite? That's really one of them remote controlled chemtrail spreaders that crashed. The government just wants you to think it's a meteorite. :o

Here's the BBC News version: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7001897.stm

Yahoo news: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20070918/sc_afp/peruhealthoffbeat_070918032309
Yahoo has a video about it here: http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?rn=49750&cl=4143186&ch=68276&src=news

It looks like the symptoms seem to fit in the description of Ebola, which there has been an outbreak in Congo few days ago, but now in Peru? I wonder if WHO will make an update about the Peru situation, if they are even investigating it.

EDIT: Yahoo posted a new video just after my post: http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?rn=49750&cl=4149693&ch=68276&src=news

Maybe the meteorite was comprised of some radioactive material?

They confirmed that the surroundings didn't show any mR/h. They haven't yet tested the stones, but they believe the fumes risen from the contact between the hot meteorite and the soil caused the illness. I hope it's nothing seriously contagious, like a mutated virus from outer space :o

Wait, if this is a sign, then perhaps the Chicago Cubs will win the World Series for the first time in 99 years.:o
But, no, I can't die yet, there are way too many things left for me to do; like get a life.:insomnia:

Possibly some space bacteria; maybe even something sent into space by the ancient Egyptians and is just now returning. It was all a plan to destroy the evil Peruvian Empire before it rises.

Heh, stare at that crater while listening to the blob song, I find it oddly amusing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_SsrZAAIJk

Those guys might want to keep an eye on each other for signs of zombie metamorphisis too though.

Or... should we expect a snicker or two from H.G. Wells?

I personally think this is how life may have started - bacteria and materials from space. So it's not surprising if this meteorite brought "something" down with it thats causing some illness. Just pray it doesn't evolve into something......evil? Mwahaha...muahahaha...

Sorry...

Now we're getting into "chicken or the egg" territory though. Cuz if life on Earth was seeded then where did the bacteria come from? :p

Chuck Norris caught the alien virus. It almost got away, but he stunned it with a roundhouse kick :p

ANYWAY... Colour out of Space, anyone? Will plants start to grow around the site, apparently full of life but bitter-tasting and grey, and will people also start to disintegrate and possibly jump down wells?

OR... could the meteorite have uncovered a toxic waste dump?

Hey, I have an idea. What if they, like, stopped going near the crater.

I loved that HPL tale :D.

Maybe, medical wastes buried there? But it wouldn't explain the boiling water :o.

^^Passing through the atmosphere I'm sure as hell that the meteorite is hot enough to boil water.

Dave-ros
09-19-2007, 05:08 PM
Not necessarily -- small ones, at least, are apparently still cold to the touch, seeing as they were at -273.15 degrees, and even though their surface would have been not during the passage through the atmosphere, leave one for a moment and it'll "normalise" its temperature... or something

Perhaps, just perhaps, there is a planet far away which collapsed onto itself and the sole survivor was sent to Earth in a small pod. This child will one day grow up to be faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to jump buildings in a single bound and . . . and. . well you get the idea.

Or it may be the harbinger of an invasion of people with tails, funny hair, a bad attitude and the ability to turn into giant apes when they see a full moon.

Or it could just plain be that the rock was/is harboring radioactive matierial (either in the form of absorbtion or actual matierial in the rock) and now people are coming into contact with it in the form of a strange substance and getting sick.

Just a guess.
