Oh my god, not some GBA bargain-ware cash in like last time either. :D I want this badly. Bionic Commando was one of my favourite NES games. Come to think of it I can imagine this very vividly, considering Lost Planet is very old school in gameplay (almost like a 3d smash tv) and the hookshot thing is very much like bionic commando.
I hope they pull this off. I mean look at the screenshots, it looks like you are even the same green shirt wearing marine dude.

Man-o-man I've always wanted to see another Bionic Commando, it's one of my all-time favorite NES games. I hope they don't f*** it up. I always had hoped someone would have made a Bionic Commando mod out of HL: Opposing Force b/c that game already had the grappling attachment...

Fortunately, I got most of my grappling goodness from the Quake CTF Server Modules game. Couldn't hurt trying again though. :)

New Screenshots of Bionic Commando (man thats weird for me to say, it needs a subtitle)-
http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/51440
Info regarding the PC version of Re-armed.
The GRIN-developed Bionic Commando Rearmed will arrive on the PC either simultaneously or within a week of the console versions, Capcom producer Ben Judd told Shacknews
The process of adding necessary copy protection was the provided explanation for the possible release lag. The studio is considering digital distribution methods, but has not yet decided on a platform.
Bionic Commando Rearmed is set for a May release on the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and PC.

It's basically the NES game only with really cool extra features like throwing enemies and whatnot.
EDIT - http://www.gametrailers.com/player/30899.html
Oh my, health pickups? Did they remove the bullet-health system? Interesting. Not that I care, since it was a negative of the original anyway.

There are more new videos of the next gen Bionic Commando here:
http://www.gametrailers.com/game/5671.html
It looks like it's shaping up pretty nicely so far, though some of those enemy taunts are just laughably bad. It could end up being a sleeper hit.
Also the new videos of re-armed that gametrailers recently posted look pretty damn awesome. I'm actually more interested in the 2D remake than the next gen game :D . Some videos also show of a side missions mode that looks a lot like the VR training mini-games from the Metal Gear Solid series. That should be a nice added bonus.
Please come to Steam then...
I hope so.

Well...what else do you need to see? The trailer highlighted all the new gameplay stuff. The rest is classic NES. Check gametrailers for some GDC stuff, it proves it further. I like how the arm behaves EXACTLY as the NES did, even though it's 3D. Even when he fails and hits the spikes, he dies as he did in the old days - no added escapes to make it easy. Still nice and tough :D

There were also two Bionic Commando games for the Gameboy. One was made for the original green screen GB and the other was made by Nintendo of America for the Game Boy Colour called Elite Forces.
Both are pretty decent, the Bionic Commando for the original Game Boy was based on the NES game but with different level design and characters portraits that were drawn in an anime style. Bionic Commando: Elite Forces was also loosely based on the NES game (main story: still rescue Super Joe :D ) but you could select between a male or female Commando's and you could also save between levels.
Also, did anyone see this news on Rearmed?:
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3166495
The Xbox 360 version will have somewhat gimped textures compared to the PS3 and PC versions, because of the 150mb file size limit that XBLA has. This doesn't really bother me much because i plan on buying the PC version, but it still sucks for Xbox360 users. :tinyted:
And even though I stared a thread for Bionic Commando Re-armed about a month ago, maybe we could just keep discussions for both games in this here thread instead of bumping up my old thread?

Capcom also complained about the 150MB limit when they made Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting available on XBLA
Personally while I agree that it's good to have a limit, I think it should be 250MB instead of 150MB

From the page it looks like the PS3 version is $9.99, the xbox version is 800 points. Might be because the PC version, and I don't blame them, has to put up with smaller potential sales. I don't care either way, as it's still a bargain and I'd have paid full retail for it.

I wonder if they fixed a couple show-stopping "bugs", which weren't really bugs but bad design I thought. In Area 6 IIRC if you didn't have the Rocket Launcher to blast the wall at the beginning you had to reset the game, and same in Area 8(?) if you didn't have the 3-Way.
Can't wait to get it... :D

No actually - you made the same mistake I did! If you pause and hit something like select+a+b it exits the level. When I read this I nearly shat myself. :D Thats actually why I kept quitting it back in the day - I kept accidentally getting stuck in that area.
Also - epic lols at the people bitching about the PC price. Are you kidding me? It's FIVE dollars. You cannot possibly be that cheap. I'm sorry but anyone who pirates this game is a first grade tard.

There's no way to know, but I doubt Capcom is pricing it a ten/fifteen bucks for no reason. Maybe it's Portal length or something. Most people don't replay games all that often, so it could be a fair price.

Yeah, I don't see what the problem is? People don't seem to mind paying 8-10 dollars for Wii Virtual Console ROMs, so why should paying a few extra dollars for a completely revamped NES game be an issue? $15 on Steam is a bargain, I'm definitely picking it up. :D I would even buy it if it was priced at $29.99.

I think the point is being selectively missed here. It's not that people can't afford $15. It's just that they think it's completely retarded that a downloadable game be $5 more on one platform than the other.
What would have happened if for some reason the PC and XBox versions went for $10 while the PS3 version was $15?

And BTW am I missing something or is the demo really just 2 minutes of gameplay then you reach a boss and it ends?

It's not coming to Steam anymore. :(
Actually, I do have some bad news on the Steam front. At the last minute, we've been unable to reach mutually agreeable terms with Valve on BCR, so they won't be carrying it (unfortunately you'll have to get it elsewhere). I won't get into the details but we do continue to have a good relationship with Valve and future Capcom titles we expect to be carried on Steam.
You'll find BCR available tomorrow on Direct2Drive at 8AM PST. Other sites (like our Capcom e-store and Gamersgate.com) will come on shortly thereafter.
Within a few days (or perhaps sooner, just waiting on some package tests), you'll find it at more than a dozen other sites (including BestBuy.com, Nvidia.com, CircuitCity.com, etc.).

When doing the hacking, are you supposed to occasionally get puzzles which are impossible to do? Or is there some element of it that I had not noticed yet?
It seems like you have to move the ball into the green cube, and your ball keeps moving until it hits a red block. That part makes sense to me. But I keep getting puzzles where NO red blocks, teleports or whatever even line up with the green cube in a way that I can get the ball to get there.

I just finished up about 75% of the main game.
I LOVE IT!
However:
I didn't realize it supported gamepads, but thankfully it does, even my PS2 pad. I played the first half with k/b and it's kind of hard to do so - and moving from Area06 to 08 is impossible on k/b...
The Challenges - not very fun, some are downright "throw the gamepad through the monitor and scream" hard and take too much away from the game itself I think and are totally unnecessary, I've never been a fan of this shit. All it does is make me feel less of a good gamer when I get frustrated and say f***'em, just like with Portal. Same with the Medals...
Something is up with grappling while on a moving platform, it does not want to stick AT ALL - bug? I don't recall if this was like that in the original or not, and I can't get anywhere in the secret passage between the Neutral Zones (14 & 17 IIRC)...
Everything else so far is pretty great, they even added in some humor, and the music stays close to the original as well, but updated...

I *love* it. This is an example of a near perfect remake. I finished most of the SP, probably would have done it all if it weren't for that secret passage level. I did finish that though czar - it just takes some real effort and figuring out what you have to do.
I haven't touched the challenges yet, saving those for later.

Ah, I didn't get much time this morning to really play through it, had to get going to work at that point. I beat 14 out of the first 16 Challenges, 2 in the 2nd set were a real bastard though, after that I just unlocked them and that's it, didn't play any more. And the star rankings can be real difficult to get as well - again not a huge fan of that. One Challenge I beat in like 3.x seconds and only got 3 stars!
I was also thinking about this this morning, the map. I really feel they could have done better on it, visually it's not that great, just seems like they forget to finish it up or didn't put as much effort into it, certainly not compared to the rest of the game, which was just plain beautiful...
I also love how now you don't have to pick certain items to take with you, it takes all the guessing game out of the Communicators, and being to cycle weapons is nice. The RL becomes a bit less useful now though, and now that it actually has rockets (and they explode now!) you gotta be careful. Haven't messed around with the deflection laser that much, doesn't appear to be overly useful though.
Also, I don't think I found a single secret yet...
I gotta agree with you av, this is probably one of the best remakes I have ever played, and one of the few that I think did justice to the original. I would love to see a sequel that offered up the same style, new levels would probably be tons better than the this game with tech today and you could put more length and interactivity into them, make a fuller game...

Jesus, that end level was tough. Although mostly because you don't know what else is coming. Once you get it down it become alright. I don't agree with throwing so much at the player without a single "mid-point". I mean come on now. I had to replay the easy parts a few dozen times just to try again.
I mean once you know how to dodge "the leader's" shots he becomes easy, but NOT on your first few tries. Which means you have to redo the WHOLE area over again multiple times.
I tried the demo last night and really enjoyed it (though, as much as I've been looking forward to it, I enjoyed Braid a little more). I've always loved BC, and they kept the core gameplay while giving it lovely graphics. The visuals combined with the way the shooting works actually reminds me of Rolling Thunder.
I just don't want to spend $50 right now, so I'm waiting on this.

Wow, these guys really know how to sell it.
I'm on the Xbox, and points come at $20 for 1600 points. If I want Braid and BC, that's not enough points (needs 2000). But, if I just went for BC right now, I'd have to spend another $20 later and only have 3200 points minus the 800 for BC. So, it'd be much more cost efficient to buy 4000 points for $50. I don't want my money tied up in Live Points right now.

Simon, just get it off Capcom's site, it was no hassle at all.
Ok Av, I finally figured out what was going on in the Secret Passage between 14 & 17. Apparantly while you are on a moving platform as soon as you grapple out and hit something you have to be immediately pushing in that direction or the grapple snaps loose, so I did manage to beat it. Now I'm doing the other one, and it requires more patience with the moving platforms...
After that I just have the final 3 areas.
The boss for Area 7 I *HOPE* isn't supposed to be the replcement for the big guy that had the cannon and 2-direction grapple, but I think he is, and that's a bit of a disappointment... :(

Word of advice if you replay it - DON'T stop. Just keep moving regardless of how dangerous it looks or if you feel like you will die soon. That was my problem - I kept stopping and trying to examine the platforms to see which to go to but by the time I knew it was too late.

Did you get any of those Yaschsi (sp?) secret items? I had like 3 of them on my first playthrough without actually looking specifically for them. I want to try and find them all.
Also - go to area 0 on your next playthrough. Theres a goddamn revolver upgrade. ARG! That would have been so useful, but I just skipped the tutorial area my first time. I didn't know it would be an actual neutral base area.
Also - I miss having the enemies walk around in those bases. "I'll take care of you!". I also miss shooting and having everyone go nuts on your ass.

The Neutral area change is kind of weird, but at least since they took out the Badds being in them, they made up for it with some of the funny conversations using those dialogs when you hack the Communications (and that's one of the best parts of the game I think). :D

Getting 5 stars usually involves knowing the EXACT moves required for the challenge. Some of them have multiple solutions in where you can/cannot grapple. Others seem to 5-star themselves since theres no other way of finishing them.

Yeah I think when you hit 8 it takes them away, noticed that in the Neutral Areas later on where the door to get the Extra Life would be locked...
Where you are pretty sure I am at av, now that the safety blocks aren't there I get lost; I go left all the way up as far as I can go and then back to the right and get stuck where the Extra Guy should be, after that I'm just guessing... and plummeting... :(

At the extra life drop down and grab that same platform. There are a bunch of mini-platforms to the right that you have to swing to, and yes it IS a pain given that you have to time it right. If you miss, try and grapple one of them and pull up before it closes.

You have to basically rotate the thing around to where the ball points to a block and hit the shoot key to make the ball go to it, the idea is to keep teh ball in play and get it into the green cube. The ball always goes away from you, that's why you have to rotate the screen around...

It's ridiculously easy though. There's only a "wrong" way to do it one in every ten or fifteen tries. For the most part it's just looking at where the next block is.

Even on Hard the Hacking Game is very easy and well worth doing if you need some health... and some of the conversations are rather amusing... :)

There was a conversation about buying the game over XBLA. It was pretty funny :)

Am I crazy or are there no graphic settings for the PC version?
I have pretty low specs but If I could just turn off shadows or set textures to medium I could get a great framerate. Right now its sluggish at any resolution, but just a hair from playable. :(
The cover for the game is out, it's supposed to look like this (http://www.hype.se/nyhet/83668)
Scroll down to see all three.

Standard. I'd rather they tried to modernize the original's box as sort of a nod to the demented box art days.

His hair isn't even right on the box either.

Bump.
Release date for the 'next gen' version finally announced:
Taken from here: http://www.capcom-unity.com/s-kill/blog/cat/bionic%20commando
Capcom is pleased to confirm that the highly-anticipated Bionic Commando will ship to retailers in North America on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
The PC version of Bionic Commando is due to ship shortly after the console release. More details surrounding the PC version will be following in the upcoming months.
Also, GiantBomb has posted a new 20-minute long 'quick look' video of the 360 version in action:
http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-ex-bionic-commando/17-408/
I'm still not a fan of the main characters' design, but the game looks great regardless. The swing-mechanics seem to be really well done and the gameplay looks solid too. Also, the original "Rad Spencer" model design will be unlockable to use, if you own a copy of Bionic Commando: Rearmed.

Awesome, I can't wait, hope there will be some sort of demo, even if its a 360 one (I can just play it on my bro's XBox then).

This game looks great.
It's interesting, 2009 has literally been all Capcom for me so far.
I've gotten Street Fighter IV, and Resident Evil 5, and Bionic Commando will be my next game purchase.

Yeah I picked it up at lunch. I liked the demo and that's the worst part of the game by all reports :P
I just love swinging.

PC isnt out yet.
For those who dont like the look of the character.
you can unlock the rearmed model
just enter the unlockable menu when you first start the game
ONLY WORKS IF YOU HAVE REARMED.:p
Game looks great.
Timing the graples take a bit to get used to.
Imo they did a good job adapting the gameplay to a 3rd perspective.
Only gripe is the radioactive areas.
You are warned, but you dont know where the contaminated area begins and ends.
It kills you quickly too.
Multiplayer is fun.
CTF,DM and TDM.
Mutiplayer maps may give you a feeling of vertigo swinging to angled platforms.:D
Perfecting your swinging really gives you a edge getting around, running across a map is considerably slower.

Theres a buch of ads in the game.
Nvidia,Alienware billboards and pepsi machines.
Its nice if that revenue helps development cost, but the customer should get a lower price for the game.

Ads in the game? F***in lame. Only ads in a game should be funny ads viciously mocking the retardedry of real world ads.

From what i read the publisher gets "X" amount of money for each game sold.
Its pure profit for the publisher and no incentive to the developer and customer.
Lame.http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/images/icons/icon13.gif
On the other hand if it actually lowers the cost of the game or helped small developers with development funding.
Id be all for it.
Its still a great game.
But i get distracted seeing PC hardware ads in a console game.
Feels out of place with the rest of the game art imo.

Only one I noticed was the pepsi and I didn't actually think about ads I just thought awesome because it's not coke (because pepsi is awesome).
I'm really enjoying the game although some of the challenge tokens can be a bitch to get.

Game gets better and better.
Only wish the areas were a bit more explorable.
Dammit. I saw today that BC Rearmed is on special for 400 points--which I just happen to have--but it turns out it's Gold members only. I'm only Silver at the moment.

That's kinda shitty. I got it for 400 the other day but limiting it to gold just seems lame.

Got a chance to try out the new one today.
...what a let down. The game design choices are terrible.
Why is it when I am going around getting collectibles, I get punished for the game glitching out and me dying and it takes all the collectibles I had gotten in the level away from me?
Also, the checkpoints are too far apart. Fly across the entire area, die because you couldn't see the radiation area or your hook decides not to work when you fall in water, and you start at the beginning.
And levels are very small. Big in visuals, small in actual play area. Seems like I hit a loading time faster than the original Half-Life's.
Always thought this new one would be interesting. But playing it... eh, not so much.
