Been getting calls from a 1-800-383-0583 daily. Never answered them, but my mom did once, and they asked her if she was authorized on my credit card (a Chase card), she hung up. Googled the number and some say it's some sort of fraud protection service (yeah... and I'm a Chinese jet pilot), the people on the other end of the line were very unprofessional male/female sounding like they were from 'India'. I called Chase and reported the number and was told it wasn't one of theirs. :doh:
Was wondering if anyone else was getting this call, and wanted to warn people to be on the lookout - I started getting these a week ago... :mad:

I don't have one from that exact number, but I get lots of calls from numbers I don't know. Like you, I don't even answer them.
If you have a listed number, any ass hole can look it up in an online white pages.
Even if you're unlisted, think of all the times you've had to give your number. Eventually it will end up in a database that some ass hole has access to.

Has your evening or weekend been disrupted by a call from a telemarketer? If so, you’re not alone. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has been receiving complaints in increasing numbers from consumers throughout the nation about unwanted and uninvited calls to their homes from telemarketers.
Pursuant to its authority under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the FCC established, together with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), a national Do-Not-Call Registry. The registry is nationwide in scope, applies to all telemarketers (with the exception of certain non-profit organizations), and covers both interstate and intrastate telemarketing calls. Commercial telemarketers are not allowed to call you if your number is on the registry, subject to certain exceptions. As a result, consumers can, if they choose, reduce the number of unwanted phone calls to their homes.
You can register your phone number for free, and it will remain on the national do-not-call list for five years. You may re-enter your number on the list when the five years have passed, and you may remove your number from the list at any time.
The Do-Not-Call registry does not prevent all unwanted calls. It does not cover the following:
calls from organizations with which you have established a business relationship;
calls for which you have given prior written permission;
calls which are not commercial or do not include unsolicited advertisements;
calls by or on behalf of tax-exempt non-profit organizations.

I don't talk to anyone I don't know on the phone. Freakin At&T called me a lot wanting me to use their internet service since I had my home phone through them I was like "Look your DSL sucks ass compared to the cable I got so leave me alone I'm not ever going to switch".

We're already on the DNC List ICR, and these phone calls have stopped, I think they just gave up...
My biggest concern was for anyone not to get suckered by these people - these phone calls are NOT from Chase!

I once answered a couple of questions in one of those calls. Two days later they called me back and said that I'd won one out of a selection of kitchen utensils. They wanted to deliver it in person and asked me when I and my wife would be home. I told them that I'd already stated that I was unmarried and living alone. Must have disapointed them, because they never sowed up...

I get e-mails all the time, telling me that my eBay account has been compromised.
I didn't even know I had one. :D

If you guys ever get any calls from 800-933-6004, that's a scam as well. I answered them a couple of times but now I just hit the mute button on the ringer and hope they stop calling. They're definitely from a fraudulent organization (if it's even a real organization) and having your number on the Do Not Call list doesn't seem to matter to them. Maybe they'll get the picture if every time they call they get increasingly depraved comments in their ears... :p

My favorite anti-telemarketing device always was:
"Hello, is Mr. Smith home?"
"No, I'm sorry. He works for a living." *click*

Or
"I'm busy right now, can you give me your home number so I can call you back?"

We get telemarketers that call asking for Bonnie Shelton... and I tell them there is nobody here by that name and hang up. :p Since getting married that's not Bon's name anymore. So I'm not being dishonest actually. :)
There's been afew times when a hispanic telemarketer has called and I'd get one of my friends to start speaking to him and then all of a sudden the friend starts ranting in german. Confuses them everytime. :D

I recently got a call from a telemarketer who actually said that I'd asked for the call! Now how did I do that, by not ticking some box somewhere?! He took some persuasion to get off the line (I'm too polite to just hang up) :doh:

Normally we get NO calls at all, and when the occasional comes through - I usually don't even answer (caller ID :love:)
