Find an address and click "3D", then you can install Virtual Earth and view 3D within your web browser.

Better than Google Earth perhaps. I was searching for a particular industrial building I came across on a walk home months ago. I've been wanting to take photos, and I wondered if I could find a satellite aerial of it. Google Maps/Earth data for my region is piss poor, Terra Server had greyscale imagery from 1992... but Live Maps/Virtual Earth? Amazing:

Also if you click Birds Eye View (when applicable), you can get this angle. This is the street I live on :o

I never knew that angle was available. I never had an issue with satellite imagery, but THAT... is a bit scary.

I will take this chance to state that I do not want people posting these images of 3DR should you find them. It's not open for discussion - just please do not do it. Thank you.

I tried it myself when Phait showed it to me... Unfortunately my city wasn't as detailed as it currently is on Google Earth...

However, i bet that will change in time... I'd love seeing birds view pics of my town :)
Maybe even my own street..!

These Earth overlook programs make me feel like some kind of soviet spy.

If these are the images the public is allowed to have, think of what the spies actually do have. . .

I will have to compare some of this with google earth when i get back to my apartment. Does Live have 3d buildings? or is it just images. the 3d buildings in Google Earth add that much more detail to the maps.

EDIT: they got an older image of St. Louis (The old stadium is still up in the image, they tore it down last year and the World Series was in the new one)

Why the hell can I only view the german Live Search site?
BTW, you can't see anything interesting in Garland. No need to search for.

I can't bring up Bird's Eye View or 3D in my city or my address. Oh well... still cool, it gets close enough I can see my apartment building though.

Did you let it install? Also for birds-eye view you have to zoom to street level. YOu can right click for menu.

Is there something like a flight simulator using Google earth?

Flight Simulator X or 2004 but not entirely unless you buy all the Real Scenery addons but thats not the entire world either...

Damn, needs XP! I'll have to check it out when I get my new comp set-up and running, I want to see if it does Patton at all...

Eh, what do you need XP for? I tried it with Win98 SE and it worked. (At least the basic stuff)

/edit: OK, I never tried the 3D mode. On modem connection for 2 more days.

It scares me when Microsoft install things on my computer... :(

I think he is referring to needing windows at all.

I can see my house. The picture is sometime between when we finished painting it (end of the summer) and when we built the patio in the back (3 years ago). It might even be from after we tore down the play house, but I can't tell. I can tell that the tree which is now taller than me is not visible: this means it is a few years ago.
This is creepy.
The Google Earth picture is different, but it is probably from about the same time (perhaps a different season)
I do like the bird's eye view. It adds a real stalker feel to the whole thing

This is much more handy than Google Maps. Thanks for sharing. I especially like how you don't need to install it as an executable, and that it integrates perfectly into Firefox.

Hardly any of dallas has the BirdsEye view, not Lancaster, nor mesquite or garland. Just the Highland park/northern dallas area.

Any way to figure out how old these captures are? My canoe is in my backyard . . .but it hasn't been there for about three years now >.<

For Sweden, just use www.eniro.se.

Wtf - When I click that link it asks me to search for What and Where. Wtf do I fill in "What"? It says it can't find what I type so no map for me.

edit: and even if I do manage to pick some address that exists and then zoom over to mine.. All I can get is a road map.

edit 2: oh nevermind, it works fine in IE.. Figures!

It has one build in:

And yes, Virtual Earth's 3d cities and birds eye images are quite impressive. To bad the coverage outside of the US is really weak.
