Here in Ottawa we woke up to 3 or 4 cm of snow on the ground this morning. :) Expecting another 10-15cm over the next 24-48 hours. This is early as last year we didn't have any until after the holidays.

Anyone else got any yet?

You people are freaks. When you get snow yearly by the truckload and freeze your nads off it loses it's appeal. Last year we had so much our entire backyard was gone, it was just snow. I thought for sure we'd have a green christmas and then PLOP....it all came in at once. :o

I wouldn't mind it nearly as much if it went away quicker. When you still have snow in March and April it really just grinds your nerves.

Bah, snow is overrated.. It's so .. cold and.. all snowy and stuff.

Used to enjoy snowball fights as a kid but it's lame. Especially now that snowball fights have gotten a lot more "brutal" and "agressive". Instead of just throwing a snowball at you, people are now trying to really shove it in your face or down your spine.. I mean come on, I don't find that enjoyable at all personally.

I used to think I hated snow, but I actually kind of like it now. I hate it for driving, but other than that it's fine. I even enjoy shovelling it (as long as it's not TOO heavy - beats the heck out of mowing the lawn).

I do agree that Canadian winters are too long though. If we could have them start at the beginning of December and end at the end of January that would be plenty. I would definitely miss winter if I lived somewhere that was warm year round though.

My Avatar is the Trans-Siberian Orchestra winter wizard. I think that speaks for my opinions on snow. :p

Snow means snowball fights, snow men, sledding, hot chocolate, special days off from work/school, and breathtaking landscapes. If you look at snow and only see the cold, car accidents, and shoveling, then turn back now, because you're on a dead-end road.

Well... yesterday temp here was in the high 70s to 80s. Today.... it's winter. Low 40s or 30s.
And according to the weather it's supposed to keep dropping from now on. And if it follows last year we'll have snow, ice, sleet.... ugh.

When it snows enough to matter, there is no school. When there is no school, some businesses don't open up either. I imagine that if you work with a salary job, you can take the day off. Also, teachers don't have to work on snow days.

EDIT: driving in snow isn't that bad. . . ice isn't even that bad. There are some people who don't know how to handle a vehicle during "bad" weather. Then there are people like me who can drive in most any condition. I also don't have to drive at school because I live on campus.

I love when it's snowing out, I wish it would snow often and melt in a day. I like to go for a nice walk while snowing or watch it out the window. When I had a rear wheel drive car I used to love to go out and drive around sideways for a little while too. The only thing that stinks is 2 days after it snows it's all black on the streets and just an inconvenient mess.

You'd like it here today. We've got close to a foot on the ground with more expected. Just got in from an hour and fifteen minutes of shovelling. I would have happily cut a half hour off that time, but I have to say that of all the household chores shovelling is the one I mind the least. Great exercise, and I love how quiet the world gets when it's covered in snow. I guess the sound from everything is absorbed by it. It's very peaceful.

Of course, when my back realizes what I just put it through later today I may be singing a different tune. ;)

There are 2 benefits to snow:

- insulating, so cold days without it become sometimes several degrees cooler
- night time is brighter than usual if it's not overcast

Otherwise, it sucks. I hate the sound and the feeling when walking on it too.

Sunday it was almost 70, then by that night it was down to the upper 30's and we've seen temps in the low 40's this past week. This weekend another heatwave is coming thru. Temps will be in the 60's again, then they're supposed to drop again. This phenomenon is what we call "Missouri weather". It can be spring time one day and brutally cold the next. While in the north the beast awakens, from his year long slumber taken,

Up to a foot or more of snow is expected in some areas. Get the latest update from Fox 8 Meteorologist Brad Sussman in Clickable Weather

It's a Flash video from the local meteorologists in the area, and telling you about what it's gonna do. Man, I'm most certainly hoping it won't knock the power out, since I'm planning on setting up my rig and installing Windows, etc...

We just have the perfect winters here (North east coast of Sweden). Always plenty of snow but never enough to be annoying. November is the only bad winter month some years (mostly the last 5-7 years) when it's just a tad warmer then 0C with rain, ice, wind and all that crap. This year has been great so far with only one week like that. Snow came early (end of October I think) and it's mostly been below 0C since then. More like the normal winters when I was a kid but with a bit less snow.

Seems like every time it snows in south of Sweden it's a snow blizzard with heavy wet snow. Can't say I have ever experienced any extreme weather other then one real storm and a few days here and there below -40C.

Ya, school buses were cancelled here for the second time this week. I've seen several people trying to get up our street with varying success as the ploughs are concentrating on the main roads and haven't hit the side streets yet. The big problem is that we got snow, and then freezing rain on top of it, and then more snow on top of that. There are big patches of ice everywhere hidden under snow. Lotsa people in the ditch today. There's nothing that makes you feel more helpless than when you car starts going in a direction away from where you're trying to turn. Glad I stayed home.

I heard this morning that there are over 600 ploughs working our streets today. Quite a fleet of vehicles for a city of about 800,000 people.

Quite a few weeks back I was on Castle Mountain (south Alberta, Canada) in the middle of a HUGE snow blizzard, somewhere in the -40 range and since we were on the TOP of a damn mountain the Wind chill made it feel like -60. My goggles fogged up instantly, and without em my eyes were freezing. Anyway we almost got frostbite and we were in 4 layers, water proof gear, I hat 3 hats on and the BIGGEST nerd mitts you could imagine. ^_^

Newfoundland had some flurries today... but that is none of my concern because I am in Ottawa now. And with the weather we have been getting only a few stubborn piles are left. Yay for no snow!!

I kind of do want some snow, I could use a snow day break.

La la la la. I'm going to pretend I didn't wake up from a nap and see snow on the ground. Nope... no siree... It snowed back in Newfoundland before today but it didn't stay. I'm hoping this doesn't stay.

Supposed to be 10 degrees here Friday, so that should melt this snow. Fairly thick on my driveway (and the plough just went by), but I'm not shovelling. Gonna just drive overtop of it...

Well, 3 inches we got overnight. On the way to work I fishtailed in my truck (first time in 3 years thats happened to me), came across 3 accidents, one of which forced me to sit for almost half an hour before being directed to turn around and take a detour on another road that hadn't been plowed all day it looked. Yeah fun.

What should have been a half hour or so drive to work (18 miles) took an hour and a half...

October in Maryland kind of sucks in a way. It's cold enough to make you hate getting up in the morning for work, but not quite cold enough to snow and keep you at home.

Then again, I was a passenger in a 21 car pile-up that involved freezing rain early this year. Came out okay, but it could have been much, much worse.

I kinda like the tag team of spring & summer better.

Last year there was almost no snow around here, I hope we'll get some this year. The only thing I hate about winter is shoveling out the car in the morning, but the climate change made things like that very rare.

There have been tiny, white, frozen water crystals falling out of the sky since yesterday here in Calgary and although everyone here laughs at me when I refer to it as "snow", it's an ice-age blizzard compared to what I'm used to in tropical NZ. :D

Possibility of my classes being canceled.
Snow balls are fun to throw at people.

By Wham-O, but Amazon themselves don't sell it, it's done by third-party. $30 for one, $80 for two. Doesn't sound like a deal at all for that 2-pack, I wonder who's selling this stuff

At least on the western end of Cleveland, and especially closer to Cleveland itself, we are actually lucky as opposed to places on the outskirts with the southern and eastern ends of town, we don't necessarily get the bulk of the lake effect here, and I don't even think I'd even want to live in a primary lake effect affected area, either. I mean, yeah, I do think we have some lake effect here, but we aren't exactly affected that significantly.

Looks like the lake effect lifted here, and is moving eastward into PA, where the warning has been extended until afternoon. At least we're safe here in Cleveland for now... We'll need to see how long that one will last. We expected our 5 - 10" here, while on the eastern end, they got almost 2 feet from this event. Yeah, good reminder that we're in the second half of fall, and winter is probably not necessarily going to be a picnic.

We had some snow here in eastern PA on Friday morning, none of it stuck. We had another snow not too long before Halloween, first time in my life that it has snowed in October. I dont watch the weather or anything but my dad tells me its supposed to snow Wednesday night here.

Havent had real good snow since we bought a snowblower :( For 4 (I think) years Ive wanted to use it now, still nothing good.
