My display is 1680x1050 native.

What do i need to do make lower widescreen resolutions available in games?
1360x768 and 1280x960 should give a nice frame boost in crysis.

Running vista 32bit and 169.09 drivers btw.

Well first of all your native is 16:9 so those proposed resolutions aren't correct and would be smooshed. You want 1280x800. However if your monitor doesn't support it it's not going to work anyway.

Also are you using the beta Nvidia drivers? They lost a great deal of lower widescreen resolutions for many users (myself included). Using the WHQL drivers they should work, if they don't for you then your PC doesn't support them.

A good test is HL2. That game almost always sees your lower resolutions. Select 16:10 and see what shows up.

My native resolution is 1920x1200, and the only lower widescreen resolution to appear by default is 1680x1050. I added 1440x900 using Powerstrip, but when I upgraded to my current 8800GTS, it disappeared, and I can't remember how I added it before. There's no way to add it through the nVidia drivers themselves -- I know where you're supposed to be able to do it, but it always fails when I click "Test"!

Well see thats what I mean. I have a GTX and 1920x1200 as my native and I have a few resolutons below that which are widescreen....however only with pre-beta WHQL drivers. I play Crysis in 1280x800 for instance.

Ah, I actually figured out how to add 1440x900: when adding a custom resolution, don't leave the timing standard on "Auto" (this option appears in the "Advanced" section) -- I set it on the first option, GTF, and mysteriously it worked! God only knows why "Auto" couldn't, um, "automatically" figure it out

Is there a alternative to powerstrip?(free)

Yes, you can use the built-in "Manage custom resolutions" option in the nVidia drivers. As I said, it won't work if you leave the timing standard on "auto" -- and I've downgraded to the last official drivers, rather than 169.09b, so you might want to try that too ;)

In fact, the option to create custom timings is greyed out in PowerStrip!

Unless i need to log in as admin.

Theres no option to change timings?
This is 163.75 and classic view has been gone for a while in US drivers.

I got advanced view clicked, but that doesnt very advanced to me.:ted:

That's very odd -- you don't have "Manage custom resolutions" on the left. What card do you have? Anyone else got an idea why he's lacking that option?

8800 GTS

I know the setting setting your referring to.
But i havent seen it since Nvidia stop letting you choose between the new and classic settings panel.

Their download page doesn't let you choose international drivers anymore also.

Just for giggles im going re-try the old drivers on windows update.
