I'm still replaying it with full DX9 features -- and it's still fantastic. I might almost think this was pipping Crysis at the post for my favourite game of the year -- but once Crysis mods start coming out, that may change. Hey, they're both good ;)
I think v1.0005 has at least done away with some of the conversation bugs that were in the previous patch -- just a shame that some bits of dialogue are still translated differently in speech and subtitle form!

Can anyone confirm that in its current state, you can start and finish all the quest/missions in the game? i.e. nothing is broken (mission structure wise)
Dont care about minor gfx glitches, I just want to be able to explore 100% of the areas that the developers intended. Its the only thing holding me from playing the game... however maybe it works now?

Currently I can play every quest and finish them. But, I could also do this since retail.
I've never had any issues with not being able to finish a quest, or had a broken mission. The game ran perfectly for me at release, great performance and never once crashed.
Only problem I have right now... since the 1.0004 patch Grass Shadows don't work, doesn't matter what you have it set to in the game menu... they just won't show.

the stadium bug is still there, not only on entering, but also on exciting. so no matter how i do it i always skip a portion of the game and end up in a part i dont want to go to yet. i stopped playing for a while again.

I encountered a quest stopping bug...
That prevented me from getting the decoder, so I could only get the rubbish endings. However, I read that you can cheat your way through the final door by throwing a gun at it. After trial and mostly error, I recommend the vintar sniper rifle, thrown at the hinge side of the door. It really does work!
So thwarted by one bug, saved by another :p

Tryed the ABC mod with the new patch. It increased the loading time to two minutes or more when the game started then it crashed when I talked to wolf.
Guess I'll just have to wait for the real freeplay mod...

i finally started playing this game again, its really fun, reminds me of old school rpg's. i also finally figured out where i can buy and sell weapons, ammo, and that kind of stuff.

Does anyone else have a problem with the mouse cursor speed(for menus/inventory)? It moves so slowly for me it's frustrating, and trying to swap a weapon during battle is impossible. The mouse sensitivity option only affects mouse look, not the cursor.
Also, is there a way to swap weapons in the inventory without manually clicking them?

open console, and adjust cam_inert - default is 0.7, but I use 0.2, it removes the sluggy feel from the mouse.

Oh yes, that's really frustrating -- not to mention how the cursor moves down to the bottom-right every time you go to the menu screen, so you have to drag it, kicking and screaming, up to the "yes/no" dialog when you quit the game, since you can't choose the buttons from the keyboard :doh:

i'm reinstalling this now. always wanted to have a good crack at it but never did. i remember getting to that underground passage bit with that psychic thing and absolutely shitting bricks. loved it
had a lot of atmosphere, shame about the engine coding really

They still didnt fix the early "kill the rookie stalker" quest.:doh:
For the love of god do not even bother taking or attempt to complete the quest.
It will only bring pain.
I managed to kill the rookie and 2 other stalkers that went hostile.
Other than that,the other stalkers stayed neutral the whole time and everything was back to normal................so i thought.
The nearby military based noticed the commotion and started to attack and i dont have the gear and ammo to take them on.
So i guess ill move on with the main quest and let the stalker camp die.

Also i had a main npc character that got killed by dogs when playing through last time.
He is needed for another important quest later on the game which gives you some nice loot.
They should make quest giving npc's unkillable.

i don't see that, its silly and unrealistic. I like the approach much better, where missions are based on tasks and not people. makes for interesting replay.

It was later in the game. I think around the Freedom Faction base. But I found Wolf dead in a fire barrel.

Still upset.
Since the 1.0004 patch grass shadows have been disabled, whether you turn them on or off in the options menu. This problem is still there in the 1.0005 patch.
I've e-mailed GSC about it, posted on the forums... nothing. No reasoning behind it has been given. :(
Sorry if I'm hung up on this... but the game looked amazing with grass shadows... and now... they are gone.

Im actually considering reinstalling and just applying the first 2 patches.
But i still like to play MP now and then.

you can still get the pda though.
Them barrels are handy when you need better equipment and stuff to sell also.

Completely gave up on the game after the second patch or so. It became unplayable after a while. Felt like the game got worse with every launch. Broken quests, horrible performance, sluggish controls... bah! It reached my threshold when enough is enough; too much hassle to draw entertainement from the product. It was no longer worth it.

How much have the quests been fixed with all the patches? I'm keen to start from the beginning again sometime soon, but I kind of want a hassle free experience.
P.s. Note that I never had any performance issues, just broken quests and such.

I have never really had any serious quest issues. With the newest patch during the entire game (up to Pripyat) there was maybe one instance where I had to replay a group extermination quest but that might have also been due to one of the targets running away too far.
Overally I think the 1.0005 version is awesome. I didn't have any problems with it, so I say give it a try.
Well there's one stupid bug in 1.0004 and 1.0005. Sometimes when someone's pointing a gun at you, the model actually points it in a wrong direction (but shoots in the right direction so don't be deceived ;)).

Thats a bit extreme, the only bug I noticed with my patched copy is the stadium bug.

Well, I'm still on an old single core agp system. I obviously don't run it at max detail, but I can still run it in full dynamic lighting mode and it is still very nice to look at. No complaints here(performance wise), Stalker was a great experience :)

I'm thinking or uninstalling and reinstalling and patching up to 1.0003 before they removed the grass shadows.
I never play online, and the game has been playable for me since release. So this way I can get some bug fixes, and the nifty looking grass shadows.

Since the patch 1.0004 grass shadows don't display. Doesn't matter if the option is checked or not... they don't work. Patch 1.0005 doesn't fix the problem either.

Not sure.
I think 1.0004 or 1.0005 added some optimizations to the engine and lighting, but most of it was MP fixes and tweaks.

With patch 1.0004.
It's odd, not sure if it was a design decision or simply a glitch in the patch... but grass shadows don't work no matter what you set in the options menu.
And Nihilanth, we're not concerned really. Just a little miffed about the side effect the patch had on a graphical feature.
And IMO, grass shadows add a lot of atmosphere to the game, specially at night during a lightning storm.

I just came across this (http://www.smart-mod-manager.org/index.html), it looks like it could be very useful tool. I'm pretty far along in Oblivion Lost at the moment, once I finish the game again I think I might give this a try. After browsing a few Stalker mod sites, theres plenty of small mods to make this tool very handy. Anyone here use it?

I think Stalker still strong, mostly due the cool mods, though most mods don't work with the new patch 1.0005.

In case anyone cares, beta version of highly anticipated Freeplay mode that is supposed to come with patch 1.1 has leaked yesterday. Before going with that, few notes.
1) It is an old beta, some say it's from November, some say it's from July so keep that in mind. It's not finished. I believe it's the beta that has been used in closed community testing or something like that.
2) It is a leak, but nobody from GSC complains so far, so it seems we are free to give it a try.

How to get this working... [this method works for me but because it overwrites Gamedata, it's a one-way ticket; maybe there's a less drastic method, maybe, you'll need to check threads linked below]
i) It only works with 1.0004 (because it's not recent version of Freeplay). You may need to reinstall stalker and patch it to that version.
ii) Extract Gamedata folder from the following download (http://www.smart-mod-manager.org/other/shoc_patchv1_1.7z) and place it in your stalker folder (I overwrote everything and it works so I guess that's what you need to do).
iii) Open gamedata\config\localization.ltx and change language to eng.
iv) It acts like a mod so find fsgame.ltx and set everything to true in a first line.
That's all. Start a new game and you're set. There's no main quest, as expected. There are a lot of changes but I haven't tested it yet. A note: I'm not sure what about saves and how to return to normal game without a complete reinstall so watch out if you've got some important saves.

Personal notes:
i) It stutters during the first few seconds.
ii) I have some ugly problems when running in Full Dynamic Lighting (fog, super bright sky, not sure if that's intended) so I switched to Static.

* Saw a Toz on sale from Sidorovich. That means there are new (old) weapons.
* I think some of the prices are different.
* Life in the Zone is INTENSE now.
* There's a huge enemy over-respawning. Think vanilla (1.0) stalker.
* Anomalies are invisible.
* Weapon parameters have been altered. It's much easier to kill someone from a great distance. It's also much easier to die, obviously.
* Contacts are broken. You don't know if there's anyone nearby.
* Difficulty is insane. Consider yourself lucky if you survive one shot.
Beta has this "raw", unfinished feel to it. It's cool in a way and it's a whole new experience. Right now, truly nothing is scripted or pre-planned, you can never be sure what's around the corner. The main problem for me is this insane over-respawing which basically turns transition points into unstoppable death machines and takes away all the fun. I think I'll play it for some time (I'm gonna try it on lower difficulty this time) and see how it feels but I can already tell it's worth the wait. Still I'm more excited about Clear Sky than Freeplay right now.

I think it's too late, mods already done that and are way better.

stalker has a new patch out, fairly small, actually available now... doesn't appear to fix anything I have had problems with, however the mp changes may be interesting to some.

Saved games from 1.0005 version will work with 1.0006 version.
Connectivity.
Connecting to the server will be possible only if the host's version of the game is the same as yours.
The patch 1.0006 addresses the following changes:
Multiplayer game changes:
1. Fixed crashes connected with memory allocation.
2. Fixed crashes upon disconnecting of the client, who didn't have the map used on the server (when using a game MOD).
3. Added uptime parameter to the dedicated server info, indicating the time of uninterrupted server functioning in days, minutes and seconds.
4. Fixed crash connected with the shooting from the grenade launcher.
5. Fixed crash connected with dropped/eaten item.
6. Fixed crash connected with starting new game (for example, upon map changing).
7. Fixed crash connected with joining to the server upon map changing (the client respawned on the old map, while the other players already switched to the new).
8. Fixed bug with killing the players when too many players appeared on the base when the round started.
9. Fixed bug with killing the player when throwing a grenade.
10. Fixed bug with player's invisibility when putting armor on.
11. Fixed bug with entering invalid commands in console.
Multiplayer game additions:
Added BattleEye option (Anti-Cheat system: http://www.battleye.com)
1) Protects network packages and the server;
2) Used only with the Internet server;
3) Added servers filter to the "Network game; Server" and "Network options" menus;
4) Uses automatic Internet updates.

I'm thinking of going back to the 1.0003 patch. It was the last patch that still allowed you to use Grass Shadows, that effect won't display with any of the newer patches.

I started playing this again today, after my last install deleted my save files after about 30 hours of playtime. I'm really hoping that doesn't happen this time, as I'm doing a much better job of collecting everything before moving on. Before I moved out of the first area, I had wiped out the military base. Turns out you can draw them into the Stalker camp and let them do most of the dirty work. :D
I really enjoy this game. It's hard, but it's fun. I just really wish it didn't hate my 8600. :(

it was my second time through, so it would have been the hard one. The strategy is to run past the guards outside the fence. You can get into the attic of the left rear barracks. :) They have beans there so you can last a while. you will need the big ammo stash that is nearby.

I just grenaded a three-man patrol, then waited until a bit later when the whole base came out to take a look. I started a fight and got the rest of the stalkers involved. They won by sitting back behind their cover. Also because I had an AK74 :D

Oh, nevermind, it's just a stripped-down-looking F2000. Either way it kicks insane amounts of ass. The stats show that it's inaccurate but it's way more accurate than the AK or the Obokan.

Just applied the 1.0006 patch,because with 1.00005 i was getting main character NPC bugs.
Anyway i got to streloks stash and came back to the rookie camp.
The place was crawling with military.
Move on to the bar and met up with skull to get the first duty quest.(kill sniper so they can blow the freedom wall)
That sniper went hostile and started shooting skull and killed him,while giving me the quest.
I shit you not from that distance.
Seems like every time they add multiplayer fixes,they break single player NPC's and main events? :mad:
My best guess is to revert to 1.00002/3 to play SP?

The amount of problems that plague single player NPC events with 1.0005 and 6 is staggering once you hit the "bar" area.

Funny thing is i have the draw distance sliders maxed out.
I can still see the grass shadows draw in. :confused:
Also i swear theres a bug in later patches that spawns 2 of each enemy.
For instance when you fight the dogs off with fox,i had like 8-10 dogs spawn with the newest patch.
With the earlier patch there was around 4.
On stalker difficulty.

Probably wont work reinstalling the patch as it wont overwrite the slew of other stuff after the 3rd patch.
Reinstall the game and install Patch version 1.0001 & Patch version 1.0003.
Back up you save file,hopefully it will work in earlier versions.
1.0005 seems to seriously mess up some NPC's Hostile/Neutral AI when you reach the bar.
1.0006 seems to have the same problem,plus if you have multiple core CPU creatures spawn in 2's.

I've still got the problem of Stalker quickly going to a blue screen (and not the BSOD) and rebooting the computer. I've changed to a newer video driver and updated to 1.0003 (since it's supposed to be the best for SP), and it still happens. I've tried searching around for a solution, and have found people with the exact same problem but they never got any answers on how to solve it. Could rolling back to an earlier video driver fix the issue, since I don't remember having a problem when running older versions? I really want to play the game but it crashes within 20 minutes of play. :(
P.s. I have a 320MB 8800GTS using the 169.21 forceware drivers if that helps any.

Sorry to post after myself, but I resolved the issue by reverting to the 163.44 drivers. I've had no problems in 8 hours of play, and I also noticed the framerates are better too! :)

I just installed and played a little of Oblivion Lost 2.0 (http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Oblivion_Lost;89584), I haven't played enough to notice all the changes but from looking over the features list my previous complaints are now fixed (armor degrades, a few other things that escape me at the moment). OL assumes you will be running v1.0005, if you decide to check it out.
I finally got around to trying out the Smart Mod Manager (http://www.smart-mod-manager.org/index.html), more games need tools like this :cool:

I as well. Lately I've been just sitting in a glorified tree house, sniping whoever or whatever happens to wander along the road. Sometimes it takes quite a while, but it feels like deer hunting.
The last part of the game is some of the most intense, crazy, shootout-for-your-life action I've ever played. I don't plan on beating the game again. ;)
Another great part is where you have to steal some secret documents or some such from a supposedly abandoned complex. After you clear out all the squatters the friggin' military choppers in and it was an insane mad dash/fire fight to get the hell out of there. Intense.

Woohoo I finally finished it last weekend! :woot:
I have to say it was pretty damn good in the later parts of the game, and the atmosphere just kept getting better as it went on. My favourite parts were Yantar, Wild Territory, Red Forest, Pripyat and the NPP (okay so that's close to half the game :p) but walking through the radiated areas was very eerie indeed. All up it took me 26 hours to get three of the endngs, but it might take me a little while to try and get the remaining 4. It was nice to go back and finally read through all the spoilers posted in the Stalker Pt. 3 thread. If I go back and play it I'll know what to look for, although I think I did pretty well on this playthrough. :)
Now bring on Clear Sky! :cool:

Does anyone else completely skip the end of Pripyat? There's a cutscene of a huge area where some mutants are getting shot at by some soldiers and there are anomalies everywhere. Then suddenly, the game loads and the next thing I know, I'm at the powerplant.
Aren't you supposed to fight your way through?

GSC has attempted to fix it... but it's never worked out right. As Jiminator said if you enter from the sides you can play it... but if you go through the main gate... it glitches and takes you to the next area.

I decided to download the Oblivion Lost mod. Last "big" mod I tried was the ABC mod, (forget what version it was, tried it months ago...) and it was WAY too flippin hard, I got raped by mutants constantly. Was not fun. OL came out with its latest version a few days ago, and looking at the features I wana give it a shot. (Currently im using Stalker 1.005 with trader mod and it keeps crashing right when I get prypit. :( ) Has anybody played it?

Im gona try another mod its called "Stalker - Rebalanced" it combines a lot of mods together (like float 32 and sleeping mod), plus come custom features. simular to Obilvion lost (how stalker was soposed to be). looks good, says it fixes some bugs too so hopefuly it wont have BSOD crashes like OL did...

HS, the tail you require is currently attached to one of the monsters you face in the Zone -- you'll need to kill it and examine its corpse, and take the tail. Of course, the first one you kill might not have a tail "available" for you to take, so keep it up ;)

HS, that tail is from one of the catlike creatures, the problem is that it is almost invisible the way they display. Clicking on the first box will usually collect them, they are not that uncommon.

There's a lot of artifacts, and a lot of them are completely useless except to sell to other Stalkers -- basically all the common ones. You'll learn to spot the useful ones, e.g. those which absorb radiation :D

Its been a while since I've played without mods, but the exoskeleton suits up the limit a bit don't they? Not much help if your in the early game, but without mods i think thats the only way around that.

I think I discovered why im getting these BSOD crashes, its not just stalker's fault.. its nvidias also! Was looking around at some forums and I found this

Basicly it boils down to, recent nvidia drivers cause BSOD's, the problem is especaly present if you have XP and an 8800 series card. Which sadly includes my sorry ass... The only avaible fix for a while was to use the old 162.18 drivers. But reading recent posts, it seems that 177.83 fixes the issue!!! Im gona download it and see if it works!

Download the 177.92 betas Water. They are the same as the 177.83, but with some performance improvements.
And as for the PhysX, you can disable it. And it seems only people with Vista 64 are having bad performance issues with the new drivers.

Guys I also ran into a bug. A have a job that wants me to clear a bandit camp so I clear and go back to the Recieve my reward I get The "I need a Job" dialogue but when I click on it he says he has no more work for me even When I have to get my reward from him.

As for me, I downloaded the drivers (177.83) last night. I tried it on my saved game (1.005 with trader mod), tried to go to garbage and it didnt BSOD, but the game still crashed... haha. Better, but not perfect yet. So I started a new game (same as above) this morning, and got to garbage... and it loaded the level... NO BSOD! :woot: I "think" it worked! I gtg to work now but I defended Bes and his crew from the bandits and I will play more (and at a slower and more at ease pace) tonight. Im sooo happy right now! And this might mean I can play those mods again too w/o much fear! :D
Damien: Yes I disabled the PhysX right after the gfx drivers where installed. lol

That new version of Oblivion Lost mod adds alot to the gameplay, and the coolness factor... I recomend it...
Vehicles don't mean much though... Nice they're there, but i rarely see myself using them, at all...
Weapon sounds are great, i love all the stuff that was added, and more mutants (old and 'new') around to kill...
And you finally care for the money and quests you get...
Too bad it requires version 1.0005... Freaking grass shadows are missing...

I posted this on shacknews but maybe you guys can help too. My list of issues that prevent me from enjoying stalker-
-No stealth. Even reloading my gun sets off an entire base. I mean what the ****? I thought this was patched. I just had to rambo my way through just like last time. Given the tactical nature of the combat (realistic headshots, etc) it makes things very difficulty and annoying to have to do this.
-Weight limit. I have a pistol and a rifle. Since there are assloads of enemies I am forced to pickup every medkit, bandage and rifle ammo box I can find. Then I'm overweight and can't even run. *sigh*
-Damage - it seems like everyone kills me in under 5 hits. Yet my bandages don't heal that much. I either headshot them before they see me, or I die in 30 seconds. Even with the "+400%" health upgrades. I mean what the hell do the upgrades even do? 400% more health and I get hurt the same amount?
-Respawning enemies. I understand the cool factor of a living world, but why are there 20+ enemies in spots sometimes? It's annoying to have to waste so much ammo and armour just to get rid of a spot I've been to before.
-Doom esque enemies. I thought this game had a story? Why then did I just go through the underground and have to shoot everything that moves? How did they know I was coming? Why were there guys placed in hallways just ready for someone to come along. If you have realism, then go the whole 9 yards please and get rid of this. I hate how one alerted enemy = doomsday as everyone else is suddenly also alerted to your exact location.
-Bushes - enemies shoot through em. They see me and blow me away easily before I know what hit me.
And on and on and on. :( I love the atmosphere, I love the solitude, I even love the awesome weather effects - but for the love of god this game needs work.

Stalker's stealth is a bit broken, the npc's hearing seems way too sensitive. Depending on the time of day you can sneak up on pretty much anyone, as long as you move as silent as a ninja..
The weight limit was a pretty big issue for me too, Its not an issue for me anymore with OL :). I can carry a couple weapons + decent amount of ammo and still have enough for medkits, food, artifacts etc..
The artifact that gives 400% health doesn't add hitpoints, it bumps up your health regeneration. Stalkers artifacts don't seem like they gave them enough attention, could of used a bit more variety and more usefull ones. OL adds some variety and usefullness to the artifacts, with the possibility to mutate artifacts in different anomalies, mutate multiple artifacts into a single one and things like that.
Stalker is great, but it needs help from some mods.

Yeah I know shackers helped me figure the health thing out. I've removed it and added bulletproof caps instead. I also ditched my shotgun and excess items.
Also installed the 1.0005 patch which both runs faster and fixes things that don't even seem to be documented (haven't seen any changelog anyway...) The hell with grass shadows if my game has bugs.

I gtg to work now but I defended Bes and his crew from the bandits and I will play more (and at a slower and more at ease pace) tonight. Im sooo happy right now! And this might mean I can play those mods again too w/o much fear! :D
Damien: Yes I disabled the PhysX right after the gfx drivers where installed. lol
I had that same problem a few months back. Reverting to 163.44 solved the problem for me. I might have to give the 177.83 drivers a try sometime though.

Ive had ZERO problems so far with these drivers. Im now at the bar, and ive gone back and forth between levels many times to retreive items with no crashes or bugs. :) (I have however seen more NPC bondfires. lolol) Im very happy (and addicted to stalker yet again) with the drivers.

I recomend the Oblivion Los mod to anyone here... When i compare it to to regular version, i can only seem to find improvements...
Also, god i love motion blur, it adds so much to the game for some reason imo...
Currently i just am about to leave the first lab located in the Wild Territory...
I am WAY too resourceful, i sold things thoughtfully, and collected items that i suspected being wanted by barkeep or the first trader in their mini missions, to get some extra money and free items...
I ended up getting way too much money from the cordon area only... Let alone when i got further in the game...
And i have a hard time using my money on anything at all... I'm happy with my fast shooting AK74 with attachable scope and grenade launcher, and silencer (although, i figured the weapons power is slightly decreased with this thing, but i actually managed to kill people among neutrals without them suspecting me being the killer :D)
I hardly use veehicles, at all...
I am confused with the anomaly recepies, maybe i should check that out some more... I guess i have to throw one or two of a certain kind into a certain anomaly and then sleep for a few hours in-game after which it may transform or get trashed..?
I love that almost all stalkers now have more varied clothing... Some bandits have more Stalker-esque suits sometimes, and not just their regular black jacket... The many 'new' mutants are great too, i even got raped from all sides once for a bad desicion i chose (Oh a pseudo dog hunting a pig, lemme join... Uhh, and 8 rats and two blood suckers, FFFffuu..!" :eek:)
Great fun though, the damage actually makes sense too... Bleeding keeps bleeding if not treated, and i like that you can sleep to recover health, in case you're out of med kits (sucks sleeping when you bleedi figured, it kills yourself... appearantly to simulate that sleeping while bleeding isn't very healthy haha)
So, i love this game again, more than ever thanks to this mod, because it really adds a freaking lot to it... And improves on what there already is as well imo...

you can always check your PDA if you wanna check who you're fighting...
I like how the number and type of creatures and stronger stalkers appear more often over time, and even in old locations... makes it more worth it actually going back again...

The sleeping bag is one of the first things I missed when I started playing Clear Sky, it also came in pretty handy if you wanted to advance the time of day and mix up your approach to different situations.

I'd like that, but of course, i'd beat the regular game of clear sky first... When i get it...

I started up a new game with OL mod and im loving it. Still in cordon, I ambushed a group of Bandits after I cleared out the military under the bridge (and took their AK47-u's of course!) and they had flippin P90's. I kept one to put it in my stash, and sold the rest for a nice ammount, used it to buy my TOZ. :D :love:
And damn it, where is the 1.1 patch already? Clear Sky has been out for over a month now... they better be working on it :tinyted:

1. Artifacts: if a green symbol I assume is good for you?
But what does it mean when says 10% +, or 10%- for example.
Both green.
Then what does it mean when red both ways?
E.g. One artifact says +30% on electric shock?
Does that mean it protects you that much OR it diminishes you by that much or what. Is GREEN?

Other curious thing: e.g. 'Duty camp complex' I killed a guy on a job & all in that sector turned against me. Does this wear off, change?
1. Once they called my name.
2. Other reload, they just called 'enemy in camp.'
And, after warning quit I found some were okay w/me but other spots or certain ones weren't & would try kill me & trigger warning bugle again.
What will or can happen in this case?

sounds like you are playing the first stalker. There are plenty of docs on the artifacts online. The radiation, bleeding, health is a constant, an artifact will either increase or decrease it. The anomaly adjustments are to prevent triggering the anomaly, once triggered the results are the same. the morning star can be found in agroprom, just swing to left on entry, they will be beyond a gate if you are unlucky, you can try grenades to blow them toward you. have plenty of radiation protection. another trader is in yantar, also duty has a trader in the bar as does freedom in army warehouse. you can kill one member if you are unseen, if seen, they become hostile. Once hostile there is no way to talk to them to make them unhostile. But there are different groups within a faction, so maybe some groups will be hostile, others not.

Still really didn't get key confusing question cleared up: the exact meaning of the artifact quality icons: THE COLOR, GREEN OR RED...then especially the + POSITIVE or the - NEGATIVE sign on PERCENT % ...what they mean
Just answer this & I'll know:
What does a GREEN ICON w/- NEGATIVE % do to you?
What does a GREEN " " " "/+ POSTITIVE % do to you?
Just say as e.g.
a 30% + GREEN electrical shock?
a 30% - GREEN electrical shock?
Their both GREEN not RED.

After reading some about the game & uh-oh, saw the ending or story meaning about 'strelok,' dangit, I didn't know the A.I. might be so evolved!
I assumed could put hoards of stuff anywhere & would stay put. I still wasn't sure IF could & it still be there, AND STILL AIN'T?
But last night I came back from Wild Country & a Stalker was standing there...I had put all kinds of stuff in this area. I also think ALOT of it is gone now. Anyway, I'd gone to extra trouble to go get grenade launcer, etc. & had it in case would need it later. Anyway this guy I talked, he was in hurry, then standing there all of a sudden it's like HE SEE'S THE GRENADE LAUCHER lying over there...& runs over there & picks it up. DAMMIT.
I reloaded & then hid the thing.
I might have lost artifacts? I had 30 or more in 2 places, the 1st 2 traders...It seemed they stayed put, but at the bar it seemed like I still had 20 there & seems like were only 10 or so still in place, but may have been mistaken. Then, since Duty in part is after me now I decided probably should just sell all the artifacts there, did SOME, but not all.
ANYBODY KNOW about that, whether other stalkers will pick up your stuff if leave it out in open??????????????
The spot talked about above, seems all the food was gone. The health, radkits, & ammo was all there, & grenades, like 50 or more. Everything else was gone. Most everywhere else the stuff seems to stay put. I got stashes right on the roads at checkpoints and places where usually have battles, just before those spots.
I scavanged everything thought could use. Even went collected guns when alot & sold to barkeep, seems they're worth as much a the cheaper artifacts.

Anybody know the best gun to keep & use?
I been using a modified gun that's fixed to take the plentiful ammo, forgot name, 5.45 I think. Ordinarily this gun won't use that but uses heavy duty ammo, armor piercing, & has grenade launcher on it too. Is very silver aluminy looking, like those smaller sub machine guns. The reason kept was it has high damage. Really more than any other gun have come across yet, except the sniper which just did 1st time & actually helped 'Duty' freaks out on 'Freedom' group taking their sniper out. After realized wasn't a special gun at all & was plentifuly at least among these corkers.
Really, haven't tried too many guns. That good sub machine gun shows low damage hight fire rate but sure seems just as good & a fast killer as my other one really?
I collected ammo for both, _x19, & the 5.45 I think for that 1st gun talked about & have ammo piles of both those everywhere. Was carrying like a1,000+ ammo of each for long time till just realized weight & started dumping everywhere in big piles for maybe later use.

I carried & kept silencer special guns for a while until never saw to use so dumped & didn't have any when killed guy for a job & DUTY part of them are against me now.
Once w/temp save went ahead & killed all guys at bunker road block where they wouldn't let me in to anyway. Then saw passed that a shack & started down it & coulda killed the guy ran into quick, but didn't...& found out looks like a passageway on down...but those guys are TOUGH...seems like couldn't kill at all and they've cut me down quick. I think coulda got them at 1st suprise IF hada just done that instead of trying to go w/out gun up & just checking. Guy saw me & took a couple seconds for him to react. But then man his fire would kill FAST. I messed up w/a save & on reload he was right there shooting, so I hit RUN & got out & then tried to get them. I think did w/grenade some, but dammit somehow seems I didn't have any of the hundred or more I've found I piled up elsewhere.

I'll try to answer a few questions:
I just played through it on Veteran. I find that keeping a good armoured suit, as well as a high-protection radiation suit (you're rewarded a nice one from the scientist at Yantar) helps, but it takes up a significant amount of weight. Near the end of the game you can find an exsoskeleton suit that boosts your weight limit to 70, but doesn't allow you to sprint. As you move from area to area, there are always good suits to be found, just look closely.
Load up on the anti-rads like you're doing, and only try to keep one kind of med kit (yellow is best, but blue is useful as well). Only carry bread, forget about the sausage or the canned food...much too heavy.
Weapons...I say screw the shotguns and pistols. I found the SPAS-12 to be quite useless, and it's supposedly better than the Chaser pump-shotgun. I managed to keep the Fast-loading AK-74U that's found in the first Lab for a good portion of the game. The TRs 301 is an excellent rifle and should do the job until you find the GP 37. All the best weapons show up as you get closer to the end.
Using the added weight of the exsoskeleton suit, I was carrrying a FT 200M, Tunder S14 (GP 37 is just as good, but the Tunder has an attached grenade launcher) and the Gauss Gun...I was pretty much unstoppable.
In my experience, I've only had artifacts that I collected disappear on me. I had 5 or so on the floor of 100 Rads bar, and eventually, 2 of them vanished. Could've been picked up, but since no one actually walks around in 100 Rads, I doubt it. I dropped loads of ammo in one spot, and several suits just outside 100 Rads, and they all stayed put...no thieves or wind carrying it away.
Artifacts...I had 2 Chunks of Meat, one Moonlight, Slug (reduces chances of bleeding - GREEN -267%) and Urchin (increases radiation resistance). I also liked using Mama's Beads because it gives you protection against bullets without any penalty.

not the best combo, I used moonlight, 2 souls, mica and urchin for general purposes. the gp37 and vintorez for sniping.
anyways generally leaving stuff behind is ok, always tripping over guns in stalker, although stalkers will pick up better weapons. put them in a container if you are concerned. or load them into a body and drag him to a trader. don't save games between as the body may disappear with all your stuff. if you want good stuff fast you can go to garbage and sprint through the radiation zone (top left) to pick up a scope and an AK. Anyway the most fun comes through the discovery process. Enjoy.

Bah, I never came across the Soul artifact during either of my two playthroughs. I did come across the Pellicle artifact though...looks sort of like a blanket of green sludge. I think there's only one in the whole game.

there were a couple of souls in garbage, north of the abandoned vehicles. You have to traverse the anomalies and radiation zones. you need to use a gun to shoot them into safe territory, but not into an anomaly as it will explode the artifact.

Yeah, this game is fun! We all get to experience it. I had a terrific night last night:
1st went from Duty to Warehouses to collect everything needed to take on that heavy duty squad & blockade talked about & did it too! Man was that fun. I went & got 2 sniper rifles & all ammo found, only 21 rounds or so :(, & also that special gun, silent & no flash & good damage too. Had all my grenades. After snook thru & did some trading, etc. finally was ready for my onslaught & was waiting for it to get dark, but was a very light night, lol.
Anyway went to my perch in building inside stairs overlooking that duty blockade & I guess is a prison chambers behind it on the left. Well (oh, also on GUNS: yeah that silvery one spoke of was that 'thunder' gun, takes 9x31 or such & does grenades. I'd found alot of special guns along the way & ended up losing them & could never find them again when went back for, except that one thunder gun modded for reg. 534 ammo. xxxxxxxxxI finally came across & decided was better: that modern german gun, sg thing I think ya'll spoke of. Weight, scope, damage all very good. Also used for a while that other light wt silvery gun not the thunder but some had scopes, were 1st in Wild Territory I think, it's very good too. ) ....that last one & uses 535 ammo is one decided to use while in my building perch. I checked & some had red so knew had to take out.
I 1st tried the silent/no flash gun but didn't keep off alarm, so reloaded & used the before mentioned gun. I killed quite a few & then some tried to get me & had fight till got all around there.
Went down to the barricade & had to kill a few more...Left my sniper rifle upstairs...went back & DISSAPEARED, grrrrr & was no where to be found.
Anway I knew the next guys in that underground building entrance to the left were tough & didn't know how many or what was down there. I planned this, used def. grenades. Oh, on arts used so far, mostly the ENDURANCE BOOSTERS, on big blue orb boosts over 100% & I added Flash, boosts like 70+% found 5 or so, sold all but 2 so far) also used Meat Chunk up to 5 for big health regeneration. Didn't really think of the bulletcap - 10% maybe that's why I was also killed so quick by these guys earlier.
Anway went downstairs, I think had killed some already from earlier perch, as alot of them had come out too. I had grenade ready & snook down till saw one in room, pitched & ran, & they are super fast to react...I had to sprint...but the grenades killed em, one at a time...I'd run out, but hit always crouch too easily mid mse button too easy....I'd do, run out, if successful save then ready grenade again & start to go back gingerly at each hall opening & they'd be fast but I'd pitch it & it worked. Finally had killed them all, & went down there & are jail cells, & pigs rosting, etc.
Later had to kill a few more around & about that went red on me. Cleaned the place out, lol.
I also carried all the good guns out of there in several trips & piled a big cache near wild terr. entrance.
It was so fun!

Will find out in a bit if those areas repopulate or not. Actually that barricade had one new guy that wasn't red on me now! I also went & did job of killing a master stalker w/that mech suit on. Just used sniper rifle, lol.

One other thing that's funny: The lost rifle I'd actually found it earlier, went all down in that tunnel, but didn't think of a shotgun as a rifle. I'd saw it but never picked it up, until read someone said in such place so went back & as soon as picked it up, whala! :)

Didn't know the game had had so many bugs till read this thread, at least this part of it. I started w/max patch, the 1.005 & then 1.006. I updated video drivers other day. Actually I think worked better before.
I noticed, yeah some of my artifacts were gone, but also just shortly after such notice after a reload or from going elsewhere & coming back SOME OF THEM HAD REAPPEARED, LOL, shit. I went ahead & sold most instead of leaving. I know I've lost quit a few.

Last save: fixing go get docs in Cordon military base. Then I think will go for 1st time to the last 3 or so places on down haven't been to yet: I think is RED FOREST, then PRIPYAT, then CHERNOBYL NPP or such. I'm eager to see what these places hold. Not the pseudodog ones, those are harder to come by. Seems you kill a certain # & then one pops up...very hard to see when search though! So far have gotten a bunch of boars hooves, those weired feet, flesh eyes, & even that blooksucker claw or jaw, several. I've got piles of dog tails though in several places, lol.

Yeah, on rifle I'm finally down pat now I think: Now am only taking that one moder german rifle w/scope. dumped all other ammo. Put other special guns & all their ammo in caches for if need, like that sniper & flashless guns, but not carrying. Left enviro suit at bar. Wow reduced my weight big time. I make several trips alot of times to get & hoard good stuff to a good location. For a while was down maybe even under 30 in weight! I don't carry any pistols except have stored alot, like the kite & any w/40mag ammo, ETC.

Also is why dumped most artifacts, but still carry probably too many. 5 meat chunks is alot, now w/soul just carry 4: but they heal you fast. I just hid & wait a bit & heal me.

Maybe other bug: w/my endurance 'facts in place at start of a level or zone change if I spring from beginning I could go forever NEVER reduces UNTIL I stop & then go again. & sometimes it works after a time or two that way.

Other bug maybe: one of the Duty mech guys near freedom factory I was to report & even could hear him talking, & showed him on map BUT HE WASN'T THERE, WAS INVISIBLE. The map still shows me to go see him, bullshit.

btw: in order to get (one of) the real ending(s) be sure to
go back to find the guide and then meet the doctor as soon as you get the mission.
Here's a little rundown on the endings:
Stalker Ending #1
If your reputation is above 1000, then you get the good reputation ending where you wish, "I want the zone to disappear". The result is that you wind up in a green field of trees and grass but suddenly become blind. So the Zone has disapeared, but only for you.
Stalker Ending #2
If your money is above 50,000 RU, then you get the money ending where you wish, "I want to be rich". The result is that gold pieces start falling from the ceiling by the hundred but in fact, it is an illusion, as what really is falling is the entire sacophagus structure, thus killing you.
Stalker Ending #3
If Lukash and Voronin are dead, then you get the "I am an *******" ending where you wish, "I want to rule the world". The result is that the Wish Granter actually disintegrates you completely and utterly.
Stalker Ending #4
If your reputation is below -1000, then you get bad reputation ending where you wish, "Humanity is corrupt, mankind must be controlled". The result is that you're bombarded of "visions" of Man's destructive nature and you wind up in a black void with nothing at all. You can pull you own conclusions on that one.
Stalker Ending #5
If you don't have any of the above, it defaults to the immortality ending where you wish, "I want immortality". The result is that you are transformed into solid metal, making you in fact, immortal.
Stalker Ending #6
You choose to become a part of the C-Consciousness. It is not good, or bad but it is not the true ending.
Stalker Ending #7 - TRUE ENDING
If you refuse to become a part of the C-Consciousness, you'll have to make you way to it by crossing several teleports outside the NPP and battling Monolith soldiers all the way. When you do reach the end the cutscene shows you (Strelok, but you knew that) arriving in a hive-like facility where each member of the C-Consciousness lies in a tube of some kind. You pull out your weapon (AK-47 in the cutscene) and blow it to bits. You then arrive in a green field of grass and trees but only this time, it's for real. You just lie down in the grass and sleep.
To get this ending you must do like M-Jay said in his spoiler-tag.

Ah, the money is like a little side game in a way. Actually I haven't bought anything & am w/out ANY armor right now. Just couldn't resist, last night all I did was go from Duty to Wild & shoot & kill & hoard all the best guns could: the place was so shot up & bodies piled high was hilarious. Also experienced several HUGE SWARMS of all the beast, the rat packs, dog packs, wolf packs & Invisible suckers & squat crawlers all at once, lol.
One of the worst was last one when was about done, got money over 500K now, lol.
I was sorting things out, I'd go in w/no gun at all & as light as could. Have guns laid now for pick up at entry points so have if need. Anyway only one guy left & he starts fighting off this HOARD OF DOOMSDAY BEAST, all of them & they kill him, then come for me, last man standing, & I tried gun, grenade but they kill me too quick. Was 2 of those invisible guys, the worst. So, I decided a neat trick. That triangle stack of pipe, climbed up on it before they got to me, didn't know if high enough then wolfs & others can knock you off cars & such...but was. The hoard was approaching fast & I flung defensive grenades & stunned some & helped, killed some dogs & probably some rats.
And was a relief when saw they couldn't get to me or were to disoriented to. Used some more grenades then finished all off w/guns. That was fun & wild though, haha.

Oh, now I don't have any enemies in DUTY anymore, lol, so glad too. At least best can tell. I made probably 50 trips back & forth too. Have seem some other guys running around huffing & puffing & guns out looking...but they didn't do nothing to me, ahhhhh, that's nice.
Finally, now am going to go to those other 3 places or so on in the game & see what beholds us there, to devour us, lol.

I hope I can remember some 'bug' things I wanted to ask!
1. I got the G7 rifle, that modern German one w/scope. Found grenade launcher that says fits it, plus 3 other rifles.
I drag it to the rifle in inventory & WON'T DO NOTHING. I tried the 1st gun it fits in the list & after a bit it snapped on. I snap it off & try every way can to get it to attach to my G7 & it just pops back in it's inventory slot?????????????????
Is this a BUG, what the hell's wrong with it?

I've got a pci-e nvidia7900GS & it flashes triangular quick artifacts alot of the times in the game. It seems to do so more SINCE I just installed latest nvidia drivers for this series of card which includes higher series cards as well.
At 1st I thought it might've been from artifact in inventory or such...but as is sporadic I think is electronic.
What items could I check on video card & game settings to help? Is set on medium.

Despite what it "says", it obviously doesn't fit that particular rifle -- so maybe a bug in the text :(
Flashing triangles suggests your graphics card is overheating -- get some software to monitor the temperature, e.g. the latest SpeedFan. If it's going much over 70 degrees Celsius, you've got a cooling problem -- sort it out before your poor 7900GS melts under the strain!!! :flame:

Hang on -- do you mean the GP37? (Says Dave, finally bothering to get the game box off the shelf and look at the Survival Guide :o) I don't remember attaching a grenade launcher to that one, though you only get it fairly late in the game, so there might not have been one around for me to find. In that case, very probably a bug. What other rifles does the text say it's compatible with?

Oh, I got this one out of box stash in wild country in I think 2nd area & to left in like old auto shop w/3 trenches or so some w/green toxins & at end is little covey where get scorched w/flamers as go in. It was in that box.
I had quite a few earlier though & just didn't have such a gun & so disposed of them & didn't really care or know about them at the time.
Hold on: this one is for: Okay is grenade launcher w/ammo M209 grenades FOR the SGI 5K, TRs 301, GP 37 which is my gun (got a couple of them from Freedom area & are like $40,000 value & data seemed like best to have & I decided there, so far as best gun for me)...& last for the IL 86.

Oh, one other thing: VGA card regular seems 42 degrees celsius. I downloaded 'SensorsView Pro' & it has GPU settings default at minimum -10C & Max 90Celsius. Has Alarm. Montors everything else too. Going to see what happens.
Didn't see download for one you mentioned. This one sound good too though.
It can be set to shut down if hits your setting.

STALKER: I have to really say this game is actually a MASTERPIECE, A GENUINE WORK OF ART! It really is. So much in it, & has huge production value, beauty, music, a.i., so much, such tremendous texture art work, just everything. And unique story/environ/characters. Seems so life-like, alive & really real. A truly amazing game.
What other ones are like that? Seen some sounds maybe so? Fallout 3? What about Crysis? I'm very interested in getting 'Dead Space' ? It sounds like it would be hugely great?

Well, I've haven't gone to Yantar yet until last night, but that was AFTER a shocking experience: 1st after finishing up in Warehouse area & have over 1.8 million cash now, lol. I checked guns out, all 3-4 different sniper guns have. WOW, are cool. I think going to have to go w/ the contest-type looking one that uses PAB rounds, 39x as that 7.25 or such seems very scarce. Is funny, tried them all out on Freedom guys at Red Forest entrance area, including the revolving grenade launcher - what a monster killer, haha...was amazingly deadly & funny. Anyway, that 'Match-rifle' w/hollow stock: is funny, can see the bullets & after a bit realized you actually have to allow for trajectory distance & use the multi-'V' marks in scope as guage. I like it cuz, scopes as good as the others but alot more ammo, also is silenced I think & maybe flashless, may not be, but also can see the bullets & is now going to be just fun...having to shoot it like a bow & arrow, adjusting & learning the scope settings.
It seems the others are just dead on w/out trajectory loss. May be wrong, but think that's right.

Well, without having gone to Yantar yet & having no PSI protection I went on into RED FOREST on way to PRIPYAT & BRAIN SCORCHER. I made my way successfully killing & on to about very end to brain scorcher or where go to chernobyl. That last leg, I used helpful vest & GLAD I kept my MICA 400% stop bleeding, & used my SOUL & MEAT CHUNKS...& made it all the way when REALIZED that weird & terrifying, SHOCKING state of like in a full reactive ATOMIC area, all that PSI instead I guess had turned ON & WASN'T GOING TO STOP AT ALL IN THIS WHOLE AREA! I barely made it out alive & was fearful w/only quicksave I was in deep shit. I didn't carry any Health kits with & only had ones picked up in there. WOW, that place really upset me, was grindingly realistically terrifying. Never have seen anything like it.

After I REALIZED I'd better go to YANTAR & should've 1st cuz bound to be something helpful for this as couldn't see how could really get thru it, it suffered on my vest too.
I did pick up that last SNIPER rifle in that area w/the longest barrel, etc. shoots really loud.

Is truly an AMAZING GAME! That last RED FOREST to PRIPYAT & BEYOND put me in a terrible state, was truly SHOCKING, TERRIFYING. Also makes you think is really what it would be like in a real nuked area! Humans can't survive & would suffer horrible death.

I was nearly exhausted by this area but decided before quit last night really wanted to go see YANTAR. Same kind of place in a way, that PSI Horror but w/the ZOMBIFIES. I rushed in there & all way to LAB when quit. Really wasn't enjoying & able to do as usual which is take my time & really explore, look around & enjoy.
ALSO realized by end of this leg really need ALOT AMMO! I carried like about 800 rounds & where quit had run out...was nearing end of that downward lab area.
Might play a bit on that tonight.

Found alot of special weapons, even that modified sniper TR 301, silenced & feels very good, scoped...but still I think like my GP-37 best & yes that grenade launcer says will fit it but won't. Tried again on other GP-37's. Did fit that sniper TR 301, have it left at the Bar in duty. Dammit though, the game dissolves some of those GP-37's. Had 2-3 just vanish. I dropped on ground at warehouse area at a village: lol, a whole group of stalkers came down into a electric spot & just casually died, like 10 or more of them all at once. I dropped my gun & went in to collect back & forth & when done my GP was gone. And was PERFECT, had 2 of them. The one at the bar was gone too when came back. Also when was collected there was one stalker that stood there watching me...I consider possibilility that he stole my gun then was watching me & just standing there when dropped it. Then after a bit he left. Soon after I couldn't find the gun, had just dissapeared.

all the guns have a trajectory, you just don't see it without a decent scope. ranking means nothing, eventually it will, but even in clear sky stalkers are not active. anyway this is my stalker load out. everything else IMO is pretty much useless. The sniper weapons especially so. They are heavy and slow and inaccurate compared to the vintorez, although the damage is nice.

That's kinda what I have currently, those 2 guns. I did have some urchins but sold them! I tried some artifacts that carried for the longest for radiation & even w/an eco suit on I tried some & didn't seem to help at all, maybe was a bug, but after I just sold them all, :(
Later I tried some lesser ones like fireball, did have 3 crystals I think called w/30 pts against rad, & did work. When tried though 1st time seemed like absolutely no help at all even w/the eco suit on. Musta been a fluke spot.
Got over 2 million cash now. Is just fun & can't resist cashing in & can call me the 'cleaner', LOL. I go in & when done the place is spic & span & my pockets are full of cash, lol. I seriously doubt I'll ever really need it, but is fun.
Before that I'd be walking on a carpet of bodies. Doing that little mini-$-game also perpetuates alot of show-downs, especially in Wild Country. Every time go to collect what couldn't carry there's a new bunch have to put down until finally get all stashed out. Tried take screen shot of the huge pile of guns had but used wrong key. Was another game said use print scrn for that instead of F12 for this. I've got alot of bad screenshots though, have hit F12 a bunch of times by accident, I think when going to pause.
You know on those urchins I'm still a little uncertain: 1st time I saw one it was ALIVE down in that 1st tunnel lab area in Agorpram. I started to pick it up to see if an artifact & it ran off. I guess you can shoot one to get it is see one, huh?
I've got 2 Souls now. I decided to keep those FAST ENDURANCE artifacts, I've got the big 'moonlight' one & I keep 4 flashes too: W/them all you can really cover ground FAST even fully loaded. Not going to do w/out them.
Also is fun to just run the wolves in circles, or just run thru a dog pack or anything then can't catch you! Is like Deus Ex w/the Fast Upgrade, lol.
Last night I thought: will try that around an anomouly & see if can wreck a wolf pack that way.

That upper gun sucks in my opinion. Almost all guns that use that ammo suck. I prefer Tunder, it rips everyone, even those heavy armoured. As for artifacts, my prefered load-up includes only those with additional Bulletproof, also enough antirad artifacts to counter the radiation from all those Night Stars and stuff.

I did 1st part of game w/the Thunder that used the 5.45 ammo. May only be one in the game. I've got plenty of the 5.56 ammo now like 3,000 or more laid up ready to use, & have used a heck of alot. It's main ammo in Rostok, Wild Country. I laid up some of the other ammo & guns in Cordon to use if need.
I love the GP-37. I kill them very fast, alot w/just one head shot. I really don't know truth or even if is one on ammo differences. The thunder is a bit more damaging. That's why I used it early on. Have some of those stashed away too.
But doesn't the regular Thunder gun take that 9x39 pab or such & isn't it kinda scarce?
I've got a good bit saved of it, cuz goes in that sniper gun too.

Actually any of the guns kill pretty good. I don't know if the patched something but I read the brief amount that have, that at 1st some thought got killed quick but hard to kill the enemy. I thought it was much more accurate & 'easy' than expected. As long as sight is red will hit them! I like the scope though, but shit I was very suprised & happy that killed them so 'easy,' early on. That all had to do was shoot w/the red on.

On BULLET-CAP, are they really any good? I've got MAMMA'S BEADS, but hardly ever use it. In fact I'm usually W/OUT ANY ARMOR at all, so I can carry more. I got probably 10 vests laid up for use though. Actually I'm storing main stuff at warehouse ready to take into RED FOREST & onward.

WOW, last night in Wild Country went to kill 'stalker' & check chest there again & got what was in & when checked as SO HEAVY...WOW had like 40 HEALTH KITS, 37 VOG-25 GRENADES...& other stuff. I've got probably 65 or more of those VOG's now & the ROTATING GRENADE LAUNCHER can use plus the LAUNCHER on that special 315 gun I got.
Most games I've played though, you never really need all that stuff, but never know until finish the game what's really in it.

He stuck around me for quite a bit, LOL.
He would'a got that damn thing. I think IF anyone is around when you're dropping stuff or have a cache, they might get it AT THOSE TIMES.

Very happy, found another 'moonstone, moonlight!' Also have 6 Souls so sold one.
I wish I'd known Yantar trader gave most money for arti's. Bad on ammo though. I went back through some places in Wild Territory & found about 5 extra flashes & the moonlight.
Tried running around anomalies to kill wolves, dogs, but they seem to know it's there, except in electricity. In Wild Terr. can go on over head pipes & the hoards try to get you & kamikazi themselves in electricity below, is funny.
I'm going back into tunnels at Agroprom today, I think I assummed those 1st missions really took place way later in the game, but I think maybe I just set those aside unnecessarily. That 'find strelok's stash, etc., like 3 missions.' Finished Yantar, but putting Bar guy off as 'not ready yet' for his next mission which I'm sure takes me to brain scorcher, pripyat, etc.
Have almost 3 million in cash now. Could buy one of those fancy suits, but didn't have my color, ha. Actually got about 15 suits I think will sell most & keep only maybe 2-3. Got the new green science suit last night, seems good. Will sell my 2 orange science ones & most of the others. So far I don't even wear one most of the time.

Hey Jiminator, I FOUND that suit you've got! I'd like to take more time to explore such areas but usually too busy cleaning up gun piles, lol. Anyway, I rerouted some of my shooting programs especially in Wild Territory: now at mid area I climb up ladder near train cars jump on double pipes go jump on roof, get on other pipe to other building toward sniper guys in parking garage or tore up 3 level building when cross this 10 ft section of pipe to other roof, it's busted in alot w/boards spining downward. Is huge hole w/electro so don't fall in, but get down into building and is cool & there's a safe & it has this suit in it, other things there too. Need radiation protections.
Have over $4 million. Checked some of the suits out. Yeah don't like the mech as can't run. That other military suit sounded good, it was like 160k!
Now I wish I hadn't sold my Batteries, woulda had 4 no burns, & 2 anti-electro or 3.
They actually do work. Maybe was something else that gave me initial idea that some didn't work & is why sold. Maybe I didn't take my Flashes out when used it, but I think 1st time in train tunnel was a bug or fluke & just didn't function correctly in that experiment.

Found Streloks stash, but still says find way out of underground? Not sure if is just a leftover OR if maybe has something to do with that MANHOLE in the Garbage that mentions Streloks secret to opening it?
Still would like to know what that is. Assuming it must be something else you do, trigger or activate somewhere, maybe back down in the Agorprom tunnel? Actually hate to go back down there again. Went a couple more times already, last time nothing new, but still had those very difficult army guys in stair wells to contend with.
Don't know IF I should keep the extra Mica or not. Also don't even know IF will have that BLEEDING PROBLEM back at Pripyat or RED FOREST again since now have that PSI protection unadjusted thing?

Also been thinking of selling my Mamma's Beads, etc. as really can't see how 5% bulletproof cap really would make that much difference...plus usually in heat of battle not that much time or worth trouble to have to load them?

uh, not sure why you bother. the money is worthless. vintars are a little hard to come by, gp37s you can pick up from dead freedom members. if the weapon clutter bothers you just load them on to a body and they will disappear with the body. Everything else you should be able to buy. For all of my unique stuff I just kept it in a chest, no need to sell except at the early levels where you have no money. If the mission still wants you to get out of underground then you may not have "completed it", it has a different exit with a unique enemy.

Yeah, won't need the money, but I don't know just turned out to be a little game w/in a game for me I think. But am a bit tired of it now. There's so much that piles up in Wild Country. I like doing it a little bit though.
I do have to say it's still very fun to find arti's, & find alot off dead bodies. Those meat chunks have been hard to find now. Got one out of that anomoly at back end of Garbage where bandits were once. Seems it makes a meat chunk like a mouse trap to pull you in & kill you. But I've gotten it a couple times. Usually I have to get it to blow it off to side enough to get. Other times it just evaporates the chunk after a while.
Still haven't found any 'Night Stars'
Got 4 Moonlights, but really want to find my final 5th one! Know where any are? Got the one down tunnel of Agroprom, & one past train tracks in wild country. Don't remember where found the other 2, but 1st one had to be early in the game. Kept it.
Only found the last 3 lately. I think maybe they get recreated after a while, but maybe enough time hasn't passed or maybe they don't. Oh, last one found was in wild where that 'rifle-shotgun' was, in that tunnel on a 2nd check.
I've got 4-5 of those Vintar match rifles, unless game took one of them. Found one also at YANTAR! Was going down 1st flight of ladders, checked in between at an electric box & was a stash!

I think I might really like that purple science suit, is like 120k. Recieved one as reward. Kept it off most of time so wound't get tore up, but forgot that it went right on when picked it up once & it got blistered about half down now in gunfights before checked.
It's really good on radiation as well! Has bullet proof too, etc. So far looks like either that one or also the military one for 160K, but it didn't sound like had any rad protection.

the load out I had is all I used or needed for anything, I would just alternate the few artifacts for radiation or healing. I never used the burn artifacts, although I imagine they could be useful in one of the anomalys, else you can avoid triggering them. Btw, the original game, before the second patch (don't know the numbers, sorry) had a bug where the same stashes would be keep being found, each time it would add the same items, so some would have lots of bottles, food, guns, so forth.... but again, the real challenge was in finding them.

Well, completed Streloks' stash now! Actually the 1st time I went down there I went from the army base tunnel 1st & killed that 'special enemy' at the very beginning! I've been back down there several times, & realized there weren't going to be any more of him or it.
I guess during that time I skipped the stash area by area's newness, other enemies & seemingly a mild maze & forgetting that spot as had thought could check out.
This time I guess I went in from other tunnel 1st & went back to stash area & then out army base tunnel. That sequence seems was required. Army guys weren't bad this time.

The burners are anomalies which can produce three types of artifacts: Crystal, Droplets and Fireball. Here's a tip: equip four Battery and you can heal wounds and repair your armor by standing in this anomaly (or any fire, such as barrel but healing the armor takes a bit more time).

As far as I know it's not a bug because there are actually two Battery artifacts: one provides 30% resistance to electricity while the other gives 30% resistance to burn. They're almost similar except for their color.

Damn, I sure would like to heal some armor! I have sold off all my burner batteries though, had found 4-5 or so. Have found a couple more electro-batteries, sold the earlier one(s) had. Keeping these as realize work.
I wish hadn't sold off my Crystal's either, like 3 or so. Have one again, keeping now.
I guess the main reason to keep MICA 400% stop bleeding is for a placement on belt when using 4 anti-rad like urchin (found that one again in Agroprom tunnel. Looked alive, maybe it wasn't though) that causes 100% bleeding too. 1st I thought that just meant IF you were shot, hurt...but I guess actually causes bleeding anyway? As says thru body openings, etc.
I'm finally going to really focus on 2nd mission of turning off brain scorcher now. Have wanted to several days but have kept getting sidelined on periphery stuff. Have almost $5 million now. Think will stop that $-mini-game at that point mostly.
A 2nd playing of this game ought to be fun! Will know what things to get & keep & how to get them quick.
One of 1st things will do is to check that battery-burner trick out.

Have a bit of a problem. Give me some helpful info. Any exact answer if a spoiler try to put it in a spoiler, as I'll try 1st w/info.
Turning brain scorcher off? I went, didn't pay attention to map, had 2 big green spots. After went on in, said reached antenna..........but I didn't do anything to any antenna!?
Maybe that's what I need to do. Green spots are gone though now. I went to underground bunker, said turn machine off....but I didn't have any CODES for any doors & didn't see ANYTHING to progress further.
Need some help?

brain scorcher? That is another indoor "timed" level. I forget the details, but if you didn't get that part that is why.
The coded doors, that's in lab X-18. The Brain Scorcher is waay after. Also, note that even if you do find the codes on some website, they won't work until you get them in-game.

I went back, didn't look at mini-map often enough before & somehow missed seeing that last hallway at top of stairs even though I check those things out even if sure is a dead end. Checked the other stairs & am sure did that one too, but must've optically just saw wall instead of door or something.
Is funny. Anyway, did all the turning off & the army guys weren't so bad. Used the GP-37 & is plenty enough. Also tried my special 315 w/sniper & grenade launcher. Coulda just done it w/it, then carried 28 grenades w/me. But reloaded & did it all w/gun, saving the grenades for later. Also wiped out all the military on the outside sniper style mostly. Stayed at train car on either side & took them ALL out & a few that came into the train car. Was fun.
Went to Pripyat. Was really fun w/those guys, lol. I then went exploring & killing. Went in building w/alot mazes & a theatre area...there were several guys there like on drugs or half zombied by the fire w/several artifacts, night stars around. After seeing that new gun some snipers were using & finding the stashes decided to see IF could go back & did. Is where stopped. Though, the 1st run thru I decided to run thru the city of Pripyat & to just explore as far as could go before got killed. Ran past soldiers & on to the Cherynobyl gate & saw all that FMV sequence & started there a bit till got killed by an anomoly. Then went back to what I was doing before & followed those guys until the underground tunnel.

When went back to Red Forest from Pripyat I saw my stash of health packs, & rads were ALL GONE, but the grenades I left were there. Don't know IF game is saying others come & pick the stuff up OR is just a game mess up. Have lost some artifacts for sure I know, & some guns, several times.

I think it's Lab 19 now. It has coded doors too. Maybe don't use yet.
My vest is about done, wanted to go back & get my new one I had. Found several other lesser suits plus ghost or that other guy, that mech suit. Anyway, seems game waits on YOU, so going to take my time & finish exploring. Probably kill all the enemies at Pripyat before leave.
Oh, when came back to RED FOREST as soon as opens all those military are in your face. I ran off good enough & then sniped them all. Probably have to do that every time make that transistion spot. Like from Red Forest back into The Warehouse area, since the Freedom guys are my enemies. Had one other stalker assasine try to kill me at Rostok again. I thought the other people would shoot him, nah.

Fixing to play some more. One other thing wanted to post: 'pisses me off' is several times lately I Kill the Stalker & then after a while it'll say 'Kill the Stalker FAILED.' Bullshit. I don't think you have to go back for reward w/in a certain time, but these messages occured after had done the job but not that long afterward.
Also IF have done 2 jobs successfully seems only get one. Like kill bandits, etc. at Rostok , & other mission to kill the dogs...if do both you only get one reward available.
I guess those are bugs. I think one kill the bloodsucker did that too. Did it & shortly later say nah nah.

Oh, one other thing. Back at Pripyat also left GP-37, a perfect one right after entry along w/17 yellow health pack, 17 rad kits, etc. & ALL THOSE were GONE when went back to Red Forest last night. Boy it pisses me off when stuff like that dissapears.
Also lost a MICA, I left 2nd one had at BAR, & disappeared when checked later.

No, I'm killing the right persons. I do check my mini-map & did try to just kill the right one, would save right before...but usually they all would want to kill me so I quit bothering, but still would be sure killed the right person 1st. I'd try to do it as clandestine as could & alot of times worked w/out turning others against me.
Kill Stalker: Says did it & come back for reward...but that's what I was talking about...a little while later all of sudden will say 'Kill Stalker Failed.' It's done that at least 5 times.

Did about all Pripyat. Wow, over there across from downed chopper, went in nearby building & there was a huge group of monoliths I think & just kept coming. Got them all sniper mode. If get good shot to head one shot does it. Didn't even wear armor. Brought my new armor but was saving it. Is funny, collected all their guns & ammo. Had the best stock piles you've ever seen, lol. Is funny, couldn't really use but you never know until you finish.

Okay, finally decided time to go on to CHERNOBYL: WOW...again what a GREAT GAME, should go in the HALL OF FAME of Games! What an experience. That part was really fun, choppers shooting at ya & everyone else in the bedlam. My moonstones did the job, even fully loaded: and took my BULLDOG 6 Grenade launcher w/90 grenades! And, my special 315 sniper w/grenade launcher that wouldn't fit the GP-37 like said & had 28 grenades for it.
I tried the run, when realized couldn't stick around anywhere cuz of the choppers...1st w/out armor. Actually got right to entrance of sarcophagus, didn't save as was just testing. Then used armor & made a full run w/315 grenades ready but ran passed them mostly.
That 315 set up as a sniper worked good. Hit countless guys way off, barely make out, but a good head shot took em down.

Well we all know the story once you get on in to the sarcophagus. Used that special gun down there & sniped most. Tried grenades to for fun, but reloaded. They all came to the door & duck shot em.

Not sure about the ending...seems almost like a dream revisited, like it's the story of the very beginning! What do you think? Seems like same thing happened, or maybe we succeeded in killing Strelok finally, hahah.

I made a save at those special places. I may go back to Pripyat just before entering Chernoby & instead do some for trading, hahaha.
It's much tougher going back now though. Red Forest has a couple packs of hungry dogs on the road now plus some military, not to mention the full force of 6 or so when 1st re-enter.
Went back once to get my new suit had left, carried the battered Seva & that new mech suit & the blue swirly rifle. Whew, made around $90K from that, rather $75K from that & the rest for job done in arti's & flesh eyes, bloodsucker feet, etc. Then went to Yantar to dump the rest of the arti goodies & on the urchin he game me another new Seva, so had 2 new ones of those. Took both w/me. Left one in that underground park lot where the others were, playing guitar now, lol.
Anyway have over $6 million, which was sure fun even in doing that! I think I'll buy everybody a round of drinks back at the bar...if go back, lol.

I was kind of expecting to get to see some glorified fields of artifacts, etc.
They should'a but a side channel ending in where if wanted to could go to a field of such & fight those mutants some but pick up the goodies & then go back to sell.
Even at that point would'a been cool to have a transporter, lol...or if more realistic even a convoy vehicles that take you there no time at all..back to the trading places.

Okay, I see. Just now was fixing to search endings when remembered got that gamespot wlkthru the other night, so just went to read that & see.
I missed that hotel stash then. I know I couldn't find the 1st stash in hi rad crumpled concrete spot & didn't see a spot to get in that building if was there, but don't think that's the hotel stash.

Jiminator. I'm talking about the not told about 'secret stashes' signified by the PURPLE TRIANGLES on the MAP...it's those. And so far nothing has been in stashes where were 1st game. Like the pipe other side of Cordon bridge at the pig & flesh spot. Was a vest, nothing now. All boxes empty, except in beginning railcar w/a bloodstone, & at the factory next to 1st dog pound you kill, where was a bandit vest.
I think the cross toward the blocked railroad tunnel where come out if was from Dark Valley, I think did have a Jellyfish in it as all.

Previous page under a spoiler tag. As for the stashes, if you play on more difficult settings, they're not going to be as "populated" as they were on easy. As for the codes, if I remember they were some kind of pre-order codes to unlock two MP maps. Google them, should be easy.

Get to Freedom armory without being part of Freedom

I've been playing with v1.005 on Vista 64bit and it only crashed once. (the first time I travelled between levels i.e. left Cordon, since then its been fine).

Seems stashes shouldn't be affected, but if you're sure will keep playing as is.
Checked train car even, had arti's 1st game, none now. Still gives feeling 1st game messed up 2ND NEW GAME, but if not sure want to be sure.

Like Wild Terr. I got most of those, but later checked & seemed the triangles were still there all over the place. I checked a few, but were empty...as I'd already earlier gone there.

Stashes get marked on your map when someone tells you about them, or sometimes you'll get one when you search a dead body. The marked stashes will stay on your map unless you empty the stash completely, if it still contains an item it will still be marked on your map.

Hmmm, well this is why I still think they should do game explanation in game manual's better & fully.
I just last night FINALLY realized what that BEEP was that happened sometimes w/pple kill. I knew it meant something, maybe some connection with or
somebody of importance. Then barely caught sight underneath the inventory body check screen that said something.......
....so Jiminator, I guess being told about stashes is from such body checks! LOL. I really wish the game had explained stuff like that!
One other thing I'm still not sure of either is the little bitty square light-up icon at bottom right. Hit meter I guess. Or, not really sure what it is?

AND, one other thing JIMINATOR, I now know what you meant when said you put stuff in a chest. I never even thought you could do that or thought of it...or as you spoke of putting stuff back on bodies.........................but..........was pretty sure what you meant.
So, at beginning had some artifacts & decided to try it on chest there...& worked. Boy was I glad! Maybe won't lose anything this way. Currently have 7 stonebloods, 1 gravi, 7 wreched, 3 jellys, 2 thorns, & a vest in it! & last time checked was all STILL THERE!.
Almost for got to mention this, as is actually important! Hey, can you put stuff in any STASH SITE & it be safe too? Or are such places vulnerable to theft?

Dangit, one last thing almost forgot: AGAIN last night KILLED STALKER at garbage, said come back for REWARD................then after a while while I was head back there said KILL STALKER FAILED. What bullshit!?

- The white arrow points towards your current primary goal (there's also a yellow arrow for a secondary target).
- The icon in the bottom-right: does it look like a floppy disc? If so, it's just the icon showing that the game's streaming textures etc. off the disc (since the game's too enormous to keep in memory all at once) ;)
- The counter on the minimap is indeed the number of people nearby (friends and foes). I tried using the "Oblivion Lost" mod, and couldn't get over the absence of this extremely useful thing! I suck :(

The burners are anomalies which can produce three types of artifacts: Crystal, Droplets and Fireball. Here's a tip: equip four Battery and you can heal wounds and repair your armor by standing in this anomaly (or any fire, such as barrel but healing the armor takes a bit more time).
Wanted to stop by & mention this: I have 4 electro batteries & tried that w/armor & health & works in repairing both!
Only have 2 burno-batts. On the electro batteries I also had one meat chunk in, & noticed this time didn't lose health & as soon as saw increased it I went & tried armor & it worked too although does take a while as you said Noa.
Didn't notice anything on GUN REPAIR though? Anything work on that?
I tried it, but actually seemed gun would misfire-jam much quicker & easier right after.

I keep most stuff in safe in wild country in mid section just past house-tunnel-hallway. So far all stays put. I put all arti's that will take to Yantar to sell later. Have done this several times already.
Also noticed sometimes a stash indicator ends up w/nothing in it, but it won't dissappear off map unless I PUT SOMETHING IN IT, THEN HIT USE KEY AGAIN & TAKE ALL OUT, then it'll dissappear.

Also put a bunch in Warehouse area in that GREEN TRAIN CAR on hill. Later noticed got a purple notice ... went & checked all my stuff still there. Went ahead later took it all out & then put back in, cleared map. May have been ammo in it extra, not sure. Had over 3K ammo!
I've been buying ammo as seemed actually on MASTER, to be less enemies & also much less ammo.
Will probably stop buying ammo now. Did that too, cuz bar only had 2-300 ammo of the 5.56 any visit.
I think have more than need now.

Was going to do some Freedom jobs & see what came out of it. Did the Duty squad kill, pre-saved. Then went to do informant & did & reciever of info but the others started shooting at me so killed them. Went to Freedom for reward & when got close they started shooting...so had to kill them all...& to find out the one I was to report to was now an enemy too, ugh.
Went back to Rostok & Yes they're all enemies now...so killed them all. Much easier this time. Actually can get the main bunker guys too w/the GP-37 in auto mode as shoots so fast...as long as start shooting them 1st. Used it mostly this time instead of grenades.
I'll have to say playing on MASTER really doesn't seem any harder at all.

Went to YANTAR & trader-scientist wouldn't converse...so went killed snorks & as many zombies as could outside camp as inside psi would kill.
Went back & trader talked w/me now. I guess unless I go back to pre-save the ending will be the 'rule the world' one again since killed both freedom & duty. In Rostok killed ALL except arena guy as showed not enemy.

SHOCKER: though in bar!...3 times after went to my stash box & then out of it a guy shot me IN THE BAR...where you have no option of fighting back!
That stinks. Now on I've checked 1st in bar to SEE IF any RED reticle shows up. Was funny in a way, just all of a sudden one of the guys jumps up & riddles me w/his gun, lol.

someone once managed to kill the bartender by lobbing grenades down the stairway... :)
You can also kill Siminovich (the shopkeeper in Cordon) at the very end of the game when you briefly teleport in front of him. As you do, lob a grenade and with a bit of luck you can see him go boom!

Haven't been playing too much, even though is always fun. Experimented a bit more. Was, again, one guy in bar to probably try kill me but this time I checked 1st & he had a red reticule...so only worked w/trader as far from him as possible...then I tried lure this guy out...went closer fast & then out & he was to try to shoot me but I went out too fast...went back in he'd come out further but seemed not to go further than the doorman. So, did the grenades & tiggered murderer amongst us several times, then I guess worked ok. Killed him besides the quicker kill of the doorman!
Later got tired of spontaneous spawning Duty or other guys angry w/me, lol...so decided would also kill the ARENA GUY & did. 1st time got the 'murderer' song, other time from reload didn't...but this seems to trigger other guy in BAR that monitors doorway behind bar. Anyway after checking all fronts as do now, & killing any, I could still hear someone...finally went back to bar & this guy was in bar doorway, I guess as far as he's allowed to go............I guess equivalent of ARENA GUY so he was triggered by my killing arena guy. Well, I killed him & now can go in doorway, behind bar, back in those rooms...which is interesting but nothing can get or do.

It also seems like now on any non threat loners turn to adversaries as soon as the alarm sounds & I kill some more Duty spawns, so tend w/idea of should just kill everybody as soon as see, lol.

Installation:
Simply copy/cut the gamedata folder to your STALKER: SHADOW OF CHERNOBYL
directory.
For those of you who have this game over steam...
copy/paste gamedata folder to steam/steamapps/common/stalkershadowofchernobyl/
AND DO THE SAME TO
computer/(C:)/users/allusers/documentsandsettings/stalker-shock/
IF YOU HAVE STEAM YOU MUST DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!! OTHER WHYS IT WONT WORK!!!!!!

Fixing to try it out. Have the 315 w/grenade launcher on it from Freedom. Will use it & see. This is just what I wanted. Hope it works & w/saves.

The fix works, but took out freedom base again, 12 guys this time seems total.
Couldn't bust 2 boxes, I think are respawning ones in leaders office. That may be a bug from the grenade fix. Not sure yet.
Realized 1st game I didn't really know could bust open locks so never got into Freedom's arsenal 1st game. Late in game realized could break locks. I did shoot some earlier but just not enough. I know I tried in Lab 2 in basement...not sure if it opens or not.
This 2nd game also somehow missed the 2nd chest on top of lockers until last night, has the 2nd bulldog 6 grenade launcher & more grenades.
Am about played out now though, may not really play it much any more...at least for quite some time.
