This guy figured out how to install the latest DirectX library in Linux using Wine. I don't know what sort of performance you'll get trying to play DirextX 9 games in Wine, but it certainly opens the door to some interesting possibilities.

If they can get DX10 to run, then that will open some serious doors....

For example what? As you now, it is near to impossible. I won't say impossible, since I am not a fortuneteller. But as the DX10 differs so much from DX9(and before) it can be considered wholely new API. It is closely tied to Vista's core. I can't see that dissection happening anytime soon, or never.

Work has already been started on Vista's internals so never part is taken out, the question is when.

This is nothing new though DX 9C libs you can extract into your windows/system32 directory and use without all of DX, most of native DX requires ALOT of builtin DLL's that don't preform as well as the wine versions of these DLL's and even though dxdiag works, all the render tests work, this does nothing more then that. It won't help you run anymore games or get past any screens that hang due to improper functions/fixme's

The parts they need to work on are not so much the renderers anymore, D3D 9.0c works for alot of games.
its the core system's internals they need to work with, things like ntdll.dll. There are alot of parts that are missing out of XP's implmentation yet some of those things are present if you set the version inside WINE to Win2000.

We are talking about DX10, and all claims made before it coming for XP have proven to be fud.

Well, I would like to see where. Bit odd there hasn't been much talk about that if it is the case. Crysis is known for it "cheap very high settings", which are DX9 but look about the same as DX10. Also, the best graphicdetails are locked in Crysis, possibly opened in later update.
