This isn't really a 3DR issue, but since it only occurs on this site I assumed this was the best spot to ask. If I download something (anything, let's say a demo) and I continue to browse I can still usually get my near max speed of 400-500k down.

However if I open forums.3drealms.com my download slows to a crawl, in the sub 50k range at times. Theres no explanation either. Forum speed is normal, as is most other things. However my download speed has been capped. If I click away to say Shacknews, Google or pretty much any other website it goes fast again.

Whats the deal here? I find the best solution is for me not to browse 3DR when downloading, but it just seems odd to me that one website would slow my connection speed....even when idle!

Does it happen in multiple browsers?

You haven't by any chance got an RSS feed active, have you? Or maybe that Firefox extension for 3DR Forums that (I think) ADM wrote?

Neither no. Usurper - I believe I tried IE7, but I'll have to be sure when I get home. I just don't get it really, why would one website (here of all place) cut my download speed?

Not by any chance to do with threads where people have posted Imageshack pictures, which of course take a geological age to download?

No I'm talking just idling on any given page, even the main page of the forum.

Oh, didn't you know? 3D Realms is uploading DNF onto the computer of everyone that visits the site, so none of us will have to buy it when it suddenly comes out in the New Year

I'm beginning to suspect this is a strange issue with Firefox on my PC. When I was downloading from Fileshack yesterday if I stayed on their main page it would download at 40k. If I tabbed away or closed the browser suddenly it spiked to 500k.

Whats going on here? It's like firefox is using too many resources when I stay on certain pages, cutting into download speeds.

If it occurs while firfox is closed in IE7, then its not firefox.

Though if it only occurs in Firefox, save your bookmarks and uninstall/reinstall.
