View Full Version : Old PMs suddenly marking themselves as "unread"

I suddenly have 22 unread PMs and thought that I became really popular all of a sudden. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered that it was just a bunch of old ones going back a few years that suddenly were showing up as "unread".

Not a big deal. Just thought I'd mention it in case it could be a symptom of a bigger problem.

First I've heard of this.

Happened right after I PM'ed you tonight. I haven't used the PM feature for a few months, so maybe it was just a weird abberation. I should have tried logging out and back in to see if that would change them back to "read". I clicked on them all instead (duh).

Anyway, not a big deal.

I had exactly the same thing a week ago. Replied on someone's pm and got almost all my pm's unread next day.

Must be a bug in the forum software. No big deal.

Have you guys tried clearing out your PM box? These weren't designed to be msg archival systems - and I know folks let them fill up. SHouldn't do that.

When it happened to me, they were all PM's that occured before the upgrade to .threads.

Hasn't happened here so far, i'll update if it does.

Granted I keep my PM box fairly clean. I love to archive, however with a 200 limit there's no reason to (I just export and delete them).

Well, I've heard some talk that when vBulletin 4.0 comes out, the private messages might be "private threads" kind of like it used to be when we were running ubb.threads. That's the way it should be, IMO.

If *THAT* happens, what I might do is make a large announcement a few weeks ahead of time, and nuke everyone's PM's to start from scratch or something along those lines.

No idea if/when that might happen, but it's probably not a bad idea to keep your PM box clean anyway. There really is no need for people to hit the limit.

I had this happen also when I got on the site today.

They were all old PM's from 3DR staff, caused a raised eyebrow at first, but then I relised it was simply a bug and dealt with it by deleting them and the rest of my inbox.

Just had the same thing happen to me. I posted my first PM since the update, and after that all my old PMs were all of a sudden marked as unread.
