falsetto-1: an artificially high voice; especially : an artificially produced singing voice that overlaps and extends above the range of the full voice especially of a tenor
Falsetto-(Italian diminutive of falso, false) is a singing technique that produces sounds that are pitched higher than the singer's normal range, in the treble range.
I always admired vocalist who can do this.
King Diamond seems exceptional at this.
Not only in pitch.
But also the variety of pitches and tones he can do at will.
Other Favorites
Mike Patton
Phil Anselmo (Pantera)
Sebastian Bach (Skid Row)
Axl Rose (GNR)
Im actually curious to hear falsetto in other genres of music other than rock and metal.
Feel free to post your favorites.(Falsetto only)

To step outside of metal one the best and highest in modern times is Mariah Carey. this is the only example I could find at the 5 min mark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKQOTnWb9GU&feature=related

That really sucks though that Ripper has lost 2 jobs, he is quite good and I hope he finds another band, preferably one that is capable of being on par with the likes of Iced Earth and dare I say it, Judas Priest...

I think this shows that Matt Barlow not only owns on the albums, but live as well.
I've actually never really liked King Diamond's voice. Maybe I just haven't listened to it enough to get used to it.

Darren Hayes (used to be in Savage Garden), who always sounds perfect live imo.
A pretty good example would be Insatiable (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6658qeGFJM), though not one of my favorites.
His recent solo albums are much darker and less pop ballad.
Who Would Have Thought (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byzdSFZlFKc) (around 1:50)
Rob Halford (Judas Priest)
Tim "Ripper" Owens (Beyond Fear)
David DeFeis (Virgin Steele)

Reaching the highest notes with falsetto can be done by many, achieving the same without it takes further virtuosity.
Jim Gillette singing "Freight Train": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bEQd8RGBy8
And nope, his voice wasn't modulated, he can hit 2 different notes at the same time and sustain them for as long as he pleases.

Chris Cornell was goofing around with another singer when he was younger and they were trying to force their voices to break by singing high and he realized it wasn't breaking and that he had whole bunch of notes up there.

Yeah, depends on what counts as "great". In my opinion he has no taste, nor direction/style. Also, it would be better if people would refrain from posting names twice.

With "Speed Kills" being a notable exception, most of his riffs and solos have no more soul than 6yo northkorean zombie pianists.

He has posted a lot of guys that hit 3+ octaves. Also, some of these guys rarely use falsetto.
