OK, nobody submitted it, so I'll post it. What'd you get (that the rest of us would care to hear about)? Nobody wants to know about the socks you got from a family member. Stuff we'd care about. :)

I got faith in God for Christmas. As some of you know (namely the moderators and a few of the closer friends I've met here), my fiance left me a couple of weeks ago after some crazy things happened in her life, and then a couple of days ago finally told me that we really have no future together. Ended up totaling my car the day after that, which was yesterday... so what I got for Christmas is faith that a higher power is watching over me (walked away with no injuries), the realization that my friends are the most important people in my life, and the strength to get through the worst couple of weeks I've ever had.

I don't really know what any of the actual physical presents I got from anyone in my family are... I was supposed to go up to my mom's but she treated me really poorly after the accident; she was already giving me a shitty, unpleasant and uncaring tone of voice when I was still in shock over the crash so I declined to spend Christmas with her. Couldn't handle the mess of berating comments from her that I'd be lining myself up for by going.

One of my friends gave me a couple hundred dollar Italian chain he had (because every nigga needs a chain! ;)) and his mom gave me a cool little sampler box thing full of all sorts of meats and cheeses. Moreover, I got to spend Christmas with people who weren't going to spend the whole time judging me based on the fact that their insurance rates were about to go up.

Actually feeling loved and not being alone through all of this is the best present of all. :)

$ and $ and a shirt which I'm wearing right now. So what'm I going to do with the money?

- buy some pretentious boots
- probably buy Vampire Bloodlines somehow
- get Dave Gahan's "Hourglass" album
- replace my lost Track IR hat clip so I can properly fly again
- and not sure if I'll go out New Years or not

I think any type of literature with historical value makes a wonderful gift, and I'm someone who comes from a Jewish family (although personally I'm an atheist).

I would have liked to receive something like that as a gift, actually. So much nicer than receiving clothes.

Some people have different taste. My brother bought me a Hebrew Bible, as in it is in Hebrew. I haven't learned Hebrew yet, but he knows I would appreciate such a gift and he knows I will be learning Hebrew eventually.
Some part of me would not mind having a copy or at least reading some strange literature, such as Mein Kampf, since it would give me insight into the mind of an insane person. Extremist literature is either boring or really interesting and it can be interesting that gets you to follow it or interesting to give you an insight into their thinking and see what type of person this "monster" was.

A backpack. I use them to carry stuff on my long motorcycle trips, and I cannot for the life of me figure out where I put my old one.

A bottle opener keychain. I already have a couple, but the more the merrier.

Some slippers. Have to smoke outside now so they're a luxury.

A heavy-duty, quad-core aluminum radiator built specifically for my '55 Chevy. Can't wait to see that one.

Zoolander collectors' edition on DVD. Lots of bonus features. I swear I'm the only person on Earth who liked that film.

A hard drive, with some sort of amount of gigs. STEAM ate up most of this one, so here I am.

That's great to hear.

In other great news, and my best christmas gift - my mother wen't to get the results from her cancer biopsy, turns out it is not cancer. Which was so huge relief, since I don't know if I could have handled the death of my mother, since there is only less than a year since my father died. On the other hand, they still have to operate her, since the overgrown tissue is blocking her bile a bit, but that was temporarily fixed with small endoscopy operation.

Great to hear peoplessi. Cancer is a very tough thing to go through... for the entire family. After watching my mother fight it for so many years, I will admit, at times I've become a little cold towards some people.

You have to be able to put up a fake face at times, accept it and move on... something a person should never have to do.

Woah, how many times has she beaten cancer again, if I may be so rude? Sounds incredible.

She was first diagnosed in 1993 with breast cancer, a form only 1% of women get... a form that kills with a year.
In 1996 a spot was found on her leg... but is was no problem... it was also around this time that the breast cancer made it's way to her bones. Which actually slowed it down some.

In 2001 they discovered a spot on her brain, she made it through without any memory lose, movement problems... nothing. Like she was never sick.

And last year they discovered a spot on her left hip. Which only bugs her because the cancer is next to a nerve. :)

Ill health aside, it must be very frustrating for your mother to beat something very serious just to have it keep coming back again and again. I think I'd rather lose on my first battle than keep riding a roller coaster, although you'd get used to it I guess. :p

Breast cancer is actually one of the toughest forms of cancer out there. And for her and the family I'm glad she didn't give up after the first time... otherwise she'd never know any of her grandchildren, she wouldn't have been able to see my brother Chris' wedding or my wedding.

Never give up. Never.

Yes, this is correct. When you get to see the disease with your own eyes Destructor, I know you wouldn't think the way you do. Cancers come in different forms, some are really agressive, some are not... my father happened to have the very very aggressive form. In 6months he looked like a concentrationcamp victim... a sight I will never forget.

But to beat it and just get it again, that would be a real pain in the arse. It's not like just getting another cold, it's real life and death stuff without the adrenaline of an action movie to boot. One battle, big or small, would be enough IMHO, especially considering a lot of people don't get cancer at all. But I guess if you want to live and you get cancer, there's no choice but to fight it. Life throws at you what life throws at you.

It's different from person to person, my mother never got to the point that peoplessi's father got. She has never looked like she was on the edge of death. Throughout the whole battle she has always looked strong and healthy... some people can fight, and act as if it never bothers them.

Some people simply don't have it in them, and can't fight long at all.

Also, this is very off topic... maybe our posts should be moved to the post thread or simply deleted.

I don't ask my parents for anything. I haven't for the last 3 years. My parents payed for my College education, which I pretty much threw away. Luckily I was still able to land a good job without finishing anything.

Slowly I'm paying them back. I bought my dad a nice Digi Cam and bought my mom a new stove. During the year, I pay for movies that they want to go see, dinners at nice restaurants they like to have, hotels they stay in when they travel, and a few other little things.

I got a Canon Powershot 950SD which I was unhappy with the improvement over the 550sd. Even though It's like 40% more pixels the images were only about 15% larger because they were more aggressively compressed and when you blew them up closely you could see the blur. I returned it and kicked up a few more bucks for the G9 which I should have in a few days.
