I can't see how I do this. When I run the game there's an option to play networked, but it's blued out, and when I press enter on it it shows me the options "host game" "join game" etc, but pressing enter on them doesn't do anything.

Also, I'm using a 2004 release, because when I install the newest version of JonoF and search for GRP's the prog says that no usable GRP's were found, yet the Atomic edition GRP is right there, and so is the Duke DC one

try using dukonnector from

http://duke3d.vachu.com

but i really reccommend not using jfduke. use xduke. it has MUCH better netcode, half the time you cant play a game with jfduke.

you can get xduke from here

http://www.gel.ulaval.ca/~klein/duke3d/Duke3d_Binary_Only_v19.7.1.zip

you can get another app like dukonnector called duksterX here

http://www.gel.ulaval.ca/~klein/duke3d/DukesterX.Hacked.Self_Extract.exe

also. i highly reccommend not using jfduke, use eduke32. its MUCH better. you can get eduke32 from http://wiki.eduke32.com/stuff

i hope this helps. and enjoy.

also a note, you may need to open you ports to play a game vs anyone, and if you host without doing this, no one will be able to join your game. in dukesterX you have to make sure it knows you are behind a router.. also make a text file called null.txt and put it in your duke folder for dx.

and for your second question, about the grp... just copy it manually to your duke folder

So eDuke also has much better netcode JonoF? I tried xDuke, but it doesn't give high resolutions with opengl like JonoF does, for me that's a big downside.

I copied the atomic grp straight from its original directory and it worked fine, but when I copied it from an old JonoF directory it was considered invalid and didn't show up on searches. That's weird, I don't get it.

Thanks for the help!

I'd like to play Shadow Warrior coop, would that work ok over a LAN and what command-line would I have to use to get it to work?

Wish it had something similar to Duke.

I think Shadow Warrior can also use Dukonnector, there's a spot for it to enter directories and such.

I'm not sure how I join games - with Dukonnector there's no ready button, and with Dukester X I click ready and nothing happens. Can you not join a game when it's already in session? That'd be bunk.

Can you not join a game when it's already in session?.

Yes.

But just becuase you click the 'READY!' button doesn't mean anything. It just tells the host that you're ready.

EDIT: XDuke is just for playing deathmatch and eDuke32 is when you want to play regularly. Also with eDuke32 you can use the HRP and SD_Duke mod witch installes high resolution textures and 3D models to replace thos eold sprites. You can get them from hrpupdate.duke4.net

So you're saying I can't join a game once it's already in session, right?

Also,
Am I able to play people who are using xDuke if I am using eDuke? I ask coz all the games get to the point of:
waiting for players...
multiplayer initialized...

and then just hangs, and 20 seconds later launches a second copy of eDuke, and then a 3rd, and then a 4th, ad infinitum until I close them all.

I tried xDuke, but after switching from eDuke's good graphics it's just too much to handle.

If your trying to play somebody you know and you have there IP address it is probley easyer to just use the shortcut commands to set up a multiplayer game, That also works for SW Ravey. I cant rember the commands for it thoe but I beleave they would either be on the JonoF website or the Eduke wiki, They are the same for both games.

with xduke, you can still increase the resolution, but it will still be 8 bit graphics, but most people use xduke

and yes, eduke32 has better netcode then jfduke

dukonnector has an area to play shadow warrior, but the best port i think for online play is swp from http://www.proasm.com

no need, the host clicks start and everyone starts

dx's ready button simply makes your name "bold" on the hosts screen saying your ready

So you're saying I can't join a game once it's already in session, right?

this is becuase the host kept clicking start, the host is probably a n00b and doesnt say a thing before starting, so you cant do anything, the reason why it stops at multiplayer initialized is because peiople cannot connect to you, or you cannot connect to them, just join another room

also if you know how to open your ports in your router, open 23513, 4600, 4601, 8500, and 8501 in both tcp and udp

if you dont know how to do this... just pm me, i can help, also i can talk on duksterX or dukonnector, my new pc doesnt really like DX though, i had a problem with people not thinking i set up my router because there was no star beside my ip... i fixed it now... it required a bit of dukonnector hacking though =\

also in DX be sure there is a "*" beside your ip adress, it can be set up on the main screen beside your ip under you name
