View Full Version : Fun with movers
I am working with movers at the moment for one part of my level. Now I already know most everything on movers but I was wondering about something.
Can I make a mover that has stuff attached to it.
I'm making a big flatbed truck that drives around and I want to have a smoke generator on the back and a couple lightboxes on the front.
How can I do this? Would I need to make them move independently and then synch it up to the trucks movement? Or can I simply annex them to the truck's geometry?
Any help is appreciated.
Tip
/me waits
um, if the truck is BSP (mover), than just attach them to the truck.
Yes, that's what I wanted to do. My question was, HOW?
Tip
Please elaborate.

Add your truck as an AttachMover instead of a regular mover.
In the AttachMovers properties, under AttachTag, make up a label to identify stuff that will be carried along with your truck, like "TruckStuff"
Position your SmokeGenerator in the appropriate place at the back of the truck.
Change the SmokeGenerators tag to TruckStuff.
In the SmokeGenerators Advanced Properties, change IsMovable and bTravel to True.
You can improve your truck by changing the bDynamicLightMover to True, otherwise the truck will have whatever lighting was on it at Keyframe 0.
You can attach AmbientSounds (under KeyPoint) to your truck as well. Vroom! Vroom! images/icons/smile.gif
Cool, thanks Nutwrench.
Hey, does anyone know where I could get a good looped sound effect for a diesel truck? None of the engine sounds that come with UT sounds right.
Tip
This map will hopefully be very good.

I don't know offhand where to find that, but there's probably a bunch of sound effects in the public domain. Try searching for SoundAmerica (I don't remember their URL. Sorry.)
You can get a lot of mileage out of Unreals sound effects just by changing the pitch of the existing sounds. A high-pitch wavery buzz can sound like the deep roar of some industrial machine if you lower the pitch in the AmbientSound actors properties.

You could always play around with Goldwave and its sine, square, and triangle waves images/icons/wink.gif
I was actually able to get a decent car engine sound out of it. At least it sounds decent when the car goes by you images/icons/wink.gif
