for not keeping the great graffics shown in 3dmark2001?

I was tweaking my system (again) and even under low quality Max looked awesome compared to the released game and my average FPS was 96.

Just wondering.. why toast those great looks?

BTW...Max's face looks better in 3dmark then in the game too,in the game it looks like he either just got shot in the a$$ or needs a good sh!t images/icons/grin.gif

Could you please be more specific?

Keep in mind that the scene in 3DMark 2001 was not from Max Payne - it only used some art and textures from it. Also, because it was just a single scene (instead of a whole level in a full game), there was much more texture memory available for the characters and the scenery.

Plus, the hero in the 3DMark 2001 scene is not Max Payne.

Thanks for the quick reply,(you live here?) images/icons/smile.gif

Sorry if i miss understood 3dmark but it looked like Max to me and since the whole program was only 60 megs? or so, i didn't think it had anything to do with size!?

But i guess you agree it sure looked great and ran great images/icons/wink.gif

I'm not saying MP doesn't have great graffic's but i wish it looked as good as 3dmarks test or whatever.

We could have made it look as good as the 3DMark 2001 scene, but your computer couldn't have handled it. images/icons/grin.gif

Skaven, I have a question as well. Weren't the other sequences (off road vehicles, fantasy flying dragon, etc.) in the 3D Mark 2001 test generated by the MAX-FX engine as well?

Your computer couldn't handle an entire game built like the 3DMark 2001 lobby shootout scene, because it's built in a way that is more suitable for a single scene than a whole game. The single scene uses almost all the available resources but runs at an acceptable framerate. A whole game built the same way would not.

While admittedly 3Dmark 2001 should run an actual game instead of a simulation of a game to be a true gaming benchmark, there are reasons why actual game code of an unreleased game is not put into a freely downloadable benchmark.

Yes they were.

However, the MadOnion programmers added custom code to Max-FX for the demosceney effects, and contracted the Ipion physics engine for the vehicle physics. The extra code was built for custom application - not general (which would have taken much longer), and therefore they could not be used in the game.

In other words, no technology has been "left out" of Max Payne in comparison to 3DMark 2001.
