Hi there,

For us europeans, it is prohibitively expensive to order games from the US, with all the taxes and stuff. I'm thinking that such tariffs would not apply if you made a downloadable version available for foreign customers.

What do you think about the idea? I'm pretty sure there are more guys like me, who would like to buy a copy of this classic.

Best Regards

not duke 3d but you can get other games from the downloadable games in the 3drealms store

http://3drealms.stores.yahoo.net/dowit.html

or you could get the shareware version here, alon with other games, some are freeware now

http://www.3drealms.com/downloads.html

maybe you can get a deal to pay 3drealms and they provide you with a downloadable version, i dunno...

but no warez, its not cool

I'd rather not buy a second-hand copy of Duke Nukem; who knows the condition it's in. Plus I've searched the french eBay, and there's no PC version available.

Also, I don't think it would be a big deal for 3Drealms, since they sell other games electronically. I'll contact them by e-mail and see how that goes.

Maybe try Amazon in your area ask for a brand new one.

I found this what is it ?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nuke-1000-Addon-Nukem-Levels/dp/B000Q049FG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1200354263&sr=1-1

just go to Amazon france to get it, or get a second hand copy, or even download the shareware episode. ;)

Thanks, I've played the shareware version many times, and it's awesome.

I think I can find a second-hand copy in good condition, but now I'm having second thoughts, and I would appreciate it if you would give me your opinion.

The thing is, my gaming (and favourite) computer is still my trustworthy 486 DX4 at 100 MHz with 8 Mb RAM, and that's the computer that I'm planning to run it on. Now, I really like the high framerate that I get with this system, but as I'm reading the system requirements of the Atomic Edition, it is strongly recommended that you should have a Pentium.

Now, my question is this: does the Atomic Edition run noticeably or slightly slower than the shareware or registered versions of Duke Nukem 3D?

I ask because I can buy either the original version or the Atomic version. Framerate is really important for me (I can' t get into a game if it's not fast ) so what do you think?

it will run the same speed, it will just take up more space, and if you plan to use eduke32 anytime soon i would reccommend gettin something with atleast a 350 mhz processor and windows 98 se (anything earlier and eduke32 will not like the os and give error messages)

Dedicated indeed... You know if you want I'll ship you an old P3 I have in my closet. And depending on tarrif/import costs I may even pay the S&H for you. You deserve to enjoy Duke in all its glory. ;)

Ye know, I think it'd be cool if 3DR put Duke3D and other games up on Steam. But I guess that'd mean Valve would get a piece of the pie (or cake, whichever you prefer) which might not be desirable..

Both Max Paynes and Prey are already on Steam. Why not Duke? Sooner or later, I imagine. Especially if it's going to XBox Live as well.

Can you use this with your game, high definition pack looks better, one bug though when you press ESC the enemies keep falling down even when there on the floor.

I'm sure they already know about the HRP, seeing as there are innumerable threads about it here on 3DR's own forums.

Mighty generous of you, but there's no need for that since I can always try running it on my Duron. But I'm a sucker for old hardware; this is what I have stashed in my closet (minus monitor):

This kind of brings me to another question. If I compile the Duke 3D source on my AMD Duron (running Windows 98 SE, in DOS mode), using DOS32 as target, will I be able to run the binaries on my 486? The compiler doesn't perform special optimizations for Pentiums that would make the files unusable on older hardware, does it?

I thought the only reason they did not have DN3 on download was they still had a warehouse full of CD to shift and still think getting the money back on these rather than writing them off is a better option than making it downloadable.

I've been waiting about 6 years now for it to become available for download. I would still buy a copy tomorrow, if priced right, if it was downloadable . But not paying over the odds for the CD, that's sooo last century man ;)

I was going through college when the 386s ruled, but nothing can replace the Videopac (Odyssey in th US) and Spectrum (Timex in the US) in my heart.

As far as Pong goes, you didn't miss by far...

It's called Air Sea War, Battle.

This is one of my favourites, along with Stone Sling. Man, the latter is probably one of the most hilarious, fun games ever written, because you can cause unpredictable effects when you repeatedly hit your opponent instead of his castle. You can actually send his sprite to the hospital, or at least that's what the animation looked like to me. I guess I'll just have to register to that site's forum and share my recollections with those "old-timers" ;)

Mechwarrior 2, now that's a sweet sim for sure. Completed the Wolf campaign, but I still have to go through the the full Falcon one.
