In the input menu what are DirectInput, Auto Slope, and Look spring?
And when I went and change the detail textures in the .ini file to True I saw these. I would like to know what these are. If I should "true"-em or not.
VolumetricLighting=False
ShinySurfaces=True
HighDetailActors=True
Use32BitZBuffer=False
UseVertexFog=False
UseAGPTextures=False
UseVideoMemoryVB=False
UseVSync=False
Ok that's all.
Oh yeah. And this.
Ok this didn't happen before but I just reinstalled Unreal Gold after a few months and the music is ok but the other sounds have crackling like. UT did it too but stopped. Then started doing it again after playing Unreal Gold.
DirectInput: Direct X input acceleration
Look Spring: When you look down, then let go of the look down button, it'll spring back up to normal.
Volumetric Lighting: Yeah, enable it. It keeps the lights looking like they should
Shiny Surfaces: Reflections. Disable if slow when looking at them.
HighDetailActors: Yea, enable it. Makes sure meshes are rendered at their highest detail.
32bit Zbuffer: Eh, it's up to you. Help if you have clipping problems. Some video cards dont support a 32-bit Z Buffer.
VertexFog: Turns fog on. Looks pretty, but is slow.
AGP Texturing: Ignore this, causes problems.
VideoMemoryVB: Turn on if you have problems with youre video card diplaying Unreal correctly.
Vsync: Turn off to sync the frame rate with your monitor refresh rate. Turn off for large speed increase, at the cost of screen tearing and artifacts.

Thanks. Now that Direct Input- does it help anything?
Well, basically yeah, if you have newer hardware.
It smooths out mouse movement, so if you have stuttering or probs like that, enable it.
I always enable it.

Ok my lights are doing something funny. On a surface or ground it will be all choppy kinda.
what do you mean by choppy? flicker? cause that's supposed to happen in some levels.

Like lines through it and junk.

Switch 'UseVSync' to True in your Advanced Rendering options.

What are SlowVideoBuffering, InvertVertical, UsePrecache? That's all on that stuff!

Ok that doesnt work. It only happens when the detailed textures are on. As far as i know it didn't happen before. I'm also having another problem I thought it was only in older games (Shogo) but some of my weapons (when I hold them ie chaingun) will wobble-like at the bottom like water same with the arm too. I don't know why this is all happening now.
Oh plus this-
http://forums.3drealms.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=13&t=000201&p=
But if I quit it then restart it will be fine again.

Check your video card settings and make sure Vertical Sync is enabled there as well.

I found it under OpenGL there and it's on. Now in Unreal Gold everything is ok (no choppy lights) BUT when you are by a flickering light there is black lines (big) it didn't do this either before. Oh and in UGold when I but on show decals it doesn't stay on when I leave the game.

The 'Show Decals' box in Unreal Gold doesn't do anything. That might have been carried over from the UT menu system by mistake.
That horizontal flickery banding on the monitor is caused by the refresh rate on your monitor being out of sync with the refresh rate on your video card. It's especially noticable near flickering lights in the game. When VSync is enabled, the video card will wait until the monitor is ready before attempting to send a frame. Try checking the same settings in UT that are checked in Unreal Gold. Depending on your 3D card, you may be able to change the refresh rate to match the monitor (or change the monitor refresh rate to match the card) or you might have to download a tweaking utility for your 3D card in order to fiddle with it.
(P.S. Don't panic if your framerate drops when you enable VSync. If the video card has to wait for the monitor to refresh, then your framerates will top out at whatever refresh rate you have set for the monitor. So you may see something like "60" for all the variables in the TimeDemo. This figure is actually your monitors refresh rate, since the 3D card has to wait on it. images/icons/smile.gif )

Doesn't that work in Direct3D as well as OpenGL?

Ok it says my video card is not Direct3d compatible but I think it was before (I just reinstalled btw). Also it still has lines through the start screen and EVERYTHING. It's like the texture on the lines is uneven. This either has something to do with WinXP images/icons/mad.gif . But only happens when it's on Direct3d.

You can override the default video card selection by starting in Safe Mode. Choose 'Change your 3D video device' then click the 'Show all Devices' box. Select Direct3D and continue.
I have the GOTY edition of UT and I've noticed that on at least 2 occasions when I installed the game from the CD, some of my UT files were corrupted (PlayerStarts missing, etc). The installer never said there were any problems during installation. What I ended up doing is using Windows Explorer to copy the entire CD into a temporary folder on my hard drive and then installing the game from there.
Hope this helps!

This happened after I put the Vsync on but when it's off it still does it so it's probably not that. God this is frustrating! Myvideo card, sound card EVERYTHING is updated. Like I said this is after I installed it again. But also happened right before. I've tried everything on the unreal tech site. http://unreal.epicgames.com

Turn off detail textures.

That just gets rid of the light problem. Either way it would run the same but detailed tex just looks better. But I got bigger fish to fry now!

One more thing. When playing games I noticed that not so far ahead of me there is a non detailed like border that "runs" away.

Are you using the hi-res textures from the second CD? What happens when you install using the regular textures instead?
Try visiting the GLSetup site. (http://www.glsetup.com/) It has a program that will automatically detect your graphics card and update your OpenGL drivers over the Internet. Definitely worth a look. images/icons/smile.gif

Somehow I got everything to work great no choppy lights, music isn't screwed up etc. BUT NOW I'm getting kicked out (twice). First when I was loading the DM tutorial lvl. The next time ABOUT to load that level. And the error message had different stuff twice (too much to post here).
You know what?
EDIT-
Now it's just acting strange. I put in the bonus packs and it did that choppy tex thing with the lights. Took them out, still did it. Switched to OpenGL then back it did it still. Went back to it was like a mix between OpenGL and D3d barly detailed tex, dark. Put the packs back in. Everything is A-OK. No booting off, nothing. See what this does later when I turn the computer back on because I am going to bed. images/icons/tongue.gif

If you're getting error messages while the level is loading, the levels could be corrupted. If you are getting these messages in software mode or Safe Mode then it's definitely corrupted files. Try installing the game from your hard drive and not from the CD.
What version of DirectX are you using?

Well I have XP so it's 8.1 I think.
