Anyway, I'm seeing a Green Bay vs. New England show down.
Green Bay wins for the sports news story for the rest of the decade.

I think with the exception of people from Boston and parts of New England, everyone wants to see the Pats lose.
In all honesty, I think that if GB or the Giants can get through their offensive line and rock Brady a bit, the game is over. Part of me would like to see the Charges beat NE Sunday, but I don't think it will happen. But you never know: the playoffs are an entirely different game all together. Hell, the Rockies made it all the way to the World Series.

Just sort of a shame that Indy was kicked out of the playoffs. Would've loved to see brother against brother if Indy and the NY Giants would have went head to head. Ahh well, gonna hope that Green Bay wins the NFC so we have two near undefeated teams against each other. Well, GB did have some losses, but on the NFC side, GB is the best this season.

10-6 at the half. Brett Farve will beat Tom Brady. End of story. I am assuming a fair game, as in there are no pre game bribes going on from New England.
Seriously, Brett Farve is much better than Tom Brady and Green Bay has the back field to keep Brady on the ground. Chargers got 3 interceptions off him, I think Green Bay could get at least as many and their quarterback is able to make the play.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS GO GIANTS! GO BIG BLUE!!!
I honestly thought towards the end they were not supposed to win, missing not only 2 close range FG's but having a TD nullified by a penalty. Was somewhat of sloppy finish too with all those mistakes & penaties from both sides.
Ive been a Giants fan since they won the SuperBowl back in 1990-91 & was bitterly disappointed by their blow out in the big dance by the Ravens in 2000. I was actually in America for that 2000 season (on a Contiki tour) and was lucky enough to catch a game in NY, the one they lost to Detroit & that the coach at the time Jim Fassel famously predicted they would make the playoffs.
They go into the game well and truly as underdogs against the New England Patriots but they've won 10 straight on the road & that might just be what might do it for them in Arizona. They've probably come closer than anyone to actually beating the Pats in the regular season & have just dispatched 2 teams in a row that gave them an 0-2 start.
Ive decided to take the day off to watch the big game (its a Monday here in Oz) & cheer my beloved G-Men on! While there would be no shame in going down to a "perfect" team, Im hoping they can pull off the biggest upset of all time!

err, Tom Brady has won 3 super bowls without big name receivers. The biggest name receiver he had during that run was Terry Glenn. Last year, the patriots made it to the AFC championship with Jabbar Gaffney as their #1. In fact, it took an epic-level screwup for htem to lose that game. They were up 21-3 at the half.
Tom Brady is one of the greatest quarterbacks in history. I hate the Patriots, but his greatness is undeniable.
Mr.Fibbles
01-21-2008, 02:20 PM
That does not mean Brett Farve is not better than him. . . Not that it matters anymore now.
The Giants almost beat the Patriots in regular season and I think they can do it in the big game as long as Eli keeps his head on straight. The Giants defense got a few off Farve and I think they should be able to get some off Brady. I mean, the Chargers got 3 interceptions of him yesterday.
Concerning Brett Farve (ie off topic now)
(wikipedia. . . (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brett_Farve)
His records include: most career NFL touchdown passes (442), most career NFL passing yards (61,655), most career pass completions (5,377), most career pass attempts (8,758), most career NFL interceptions thrown (288), most consecutive starts among NFL quarterbacks (253, 274 total starts including playoffs), most consecutive playoff games with a touchdown pass (17), and most career victories as a starting quarterback (160).
His number of Super Bowls aren't as high, but most of his stats are higher. Green Bay was a great team in the 90's and Brett Farve was a big part of that. The thing was that in the 90's you had the Cowboys winning all the Super Bowls and going for the NCF. The Patriots have this decade, and they can have it for all I care since this decade is plagued with steroids and cheating.

The Patriots are like Barry Bonds right now. The only difference is that there are less people questioning how they are winning these games than how Barry Bonds was hitting those home runs. But the point is, there are questions as to how the Patriots are winning these games. I don't know about you but it seems that way too many calls go in favor of the Patriots and there are a few guys on that team that should have gotten unsportsmanlike conduct etc calls throughout the season and especially Sunday against the Chargers. Perhaps they are questionable calls but they are good calls afterall. You can say that about any team in the NFL. Colts playing in Indi' come to mind. I agree that Harrison is a hot head but he is always disciplined/penalized for his actions. Bottom line is people are always jealous of dynasties and try to find any excuse or reason why these teams are as good as they are. How many people liked the Cowboys or 49'ers in their prime?
This article below puts it beautifully...
Name a coach and NFL team caught cheating and then forced to give up a first-round pick, only to gain a measure of revenge by roughing up an opponent or two en route to a perfect season and a Super Bowl title.
Bill Belichick's New England Patriots?
How about Don Shula's 1972 Miami Dolphins?
The parallels aren't exact, since that Dolphins team is already in the record book and these Patriots are only halfway through their regular-season schedule. But Shula couldn't be bothered with distinctions earlier this week when he suggested an asterisk would be appropriate if the Patriots did make it onto the same page by season's end.
"The Spygate thing has diminished what they've accomplished," the retired Hall of Fame coach told the New York Daily News. "You would hate to have that attached to your accomplishments. They've got it."
If Shula believes that, then he ought to negotiate a two-fer and paste the other asterisk next to his own undefeated team.
He was still the coach of the Baltimore Colts at the end of the 1969 season, when then-Miami owner Joe Robbie approached him and signed Shula to a contract. The NFL charged the Dolphins with tampering and awarded their first-round pick to the Colts. Undaunted, Miami reached the Super Bowl in 1971, then rebounded from a loss to the Dallas Cowboys by winning the next two, including the perfect 17-0 campaign.
Belichick may be crazy -- and I'll lay the over -- but he's no fool. Whatever advantage his Patriots gained by stealing signals in their opener against the Jets, chances are good they put the extra video camera back in the case after that little chat with commissioner Roger Goodell. Yet, they've only gotten better.
Let's not soft-pedal what Belichick and the Pats did. Even though a one-game suspension would have made the point much more effectively, Goodell found enough wrongdoing to lighten Belichick's pay envelope with an unprecedented $500,000 fine, then took another $250,000 from the organization and a first-round pick.
It's curious that the commissioner decided to destroy all the evidence afterward, but it might also be telling.
"You don't know what was on those tapes and how much it helped," Shula said. "I think the commissioner just wanted it to go away."
Small wonder. Teams have been looking for an edge since the league opened for business and they've only become more sophisticated in the intervening years. Since the Patriots are state-of-the-art in just about everything else they do, it stands to reason they were better at stealing signals than their opponents, too.
Yet, if Goodell is serious about running an honest game -- I'll take the over on that bet, too -- and he concluded a fine and a draft pick were enough to level the playing field, well, it must not have been that tilted to begin with. After the whistle, though, that's a different story.
The Patriots are arguably the NFL's most talented team, they're definitely the best-coached and thanks to comments like Shula's, they're easily the most motivated. There's no chance success will go to their head.
To know that, you only had to see Belichick grab a clipboard in the Dallas game a few weeks back, walk grumpily toward the bench and start lecturing his linebackers, who hadn't given up so much as a first down at that point.
Better yet, go back and look at the film on tackle Matt Light's personal foul in the second quarter Sunday against Indianapolis. Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney fooled Light with his pass rush and was en route to steamrolling Tom Brady. Rather than see his quarterback crushed, Light desperately leg-whipped Freeney and got caught. Even so, it was one of those win-at-all-cost maneuvers that few people would have admired more than Belichick and Light's teammates would have admired.
Back in the day, Shula probably would have felt the same. His Miami teams, like Belichick's, were disciplined and punishing, and while they beat up opponents with a low-tech running attack led by Larry Csonka and Jim Kiick, the Dolphins were not above running up a score once they got rolling. In the perfect season, coincidentally, that translated into a 52-0 beating of New England.
That year, the Dolphins also happened to draw what most experts consider one of the NFL's softest schedules ever. Their opponents had a winning percentage below .400. But nobody suggested an asterisk was in order then, and if the Patriots go through a deeper league and all the way to a Super Bowl without losing, Shula would do well to remember something that Csonka once said:
"Perfection ends a lot of arguments."

I always thought "spygate" and the rules that made it a scandal were silly. There's 40,000+ people in the stadium, any one of which could steal signals with binoculars and a cell phone to call or text the signals in. It's up to the coaches to hide their signals.
Baseball figured this out a long time ago.

I hate that when a coach just barely gets one team into the playoffs for more than a couple of weeks, yet, when they go to another team, then they are the best for years on end. Well, then again, look who we got Bellichick's old right hand man, Romeo Crennel from, now he's our head coach now in Cleveland. Wow... Cleveland has had great coaches before who didn't deliver for us. Marty got us to the playoffs year after year after year. Might have something to do with Cleveland always having less payroll than coastal teams, no matter what sport they're playing. It was a rewarding game. Pretty much an amazing finish too. Plaxico got his win, and we called it. If NE had gotten the last second fieldgoal to tie it and then Plaxico or someone on the Giants got a game winner in OT it would have been 23-17 (like he called it). That play reminded me of the one when the Texans played Carolina and we had like 6 guys tackle Steve Smith and he broke through around the 50 yard line and somehow managed to run it all the way in for a TD.
Ahhhh damn Mercury Morris is going to be in full rap mode now.
It was a great game and I'm glad Strahan finally got a ring, though.

I'm glad this game was intense all the way to the end. Close football games are great... certainly the best superbowl I remember watching.

Well the Patriot record of this past season no longer means anything. Good for the Giants I guess. Didn't want'em to win but yeah know it was a good game to watch. That 5 guy on Eli and him getting out and just tossin it down field like that with the catch...that was like Wow...I didn't think he had it in him and we all thought he was down til he threw it lol :)
Brady just kept gettin sacked...I'm surprised he wasn't yelling more to keep the heat off to make some big plays. Oh well :) Maybe next year Tom haha.

Of course, I'm an uprooted New Yorka! ;)
Bah, Giants are a New Joisey team. Nothing New York about a team playing in NJ. :tinyted:

Well, at least it's a win that's truly deserving for the Jersey Boyz, err, NY Giants. :D
Needless to say, at least he exposed Tom Brady and Bill Bellichick of cheating the whole season just to say that they wanted a season without a loss. Not to say that they deserved a perfect season, since New England wanted to get their own way, but... At least it's nice that Steve Tisch, and the blue helmets of the Giants made it clear.

A would-be bar owner angry at being denied a liquor license threatened to shoot people at the Super Bowl and drove to within sight of the stadium with a rifle and 200 rounds of ammunition before changing his mind, federal authorities said.
Kurt William Havelock, who ultimately turned himself in, had vowed to “shed the blood of the innocent” in a manifesto mailed Sunday to media outlets, according to court documents. “No one destroys my dream,” he wrote.
The documents say he was armed with an AR-15 assault-style rifle Sunday when he reached a parking lot near University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, where pre-game activities were happening.

Jesus Christ, at least he had some sense in the end.

Kurt William Havelock should have taken a page from the Killdozer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killdozer_(bulldozer)) playbook instead. Massive property damage with no innocent lives lost. That's the way to stick it to your local government. :D
But seriously, I'm almost relieved now that the Patriots did lose, since the media kept dredging up spygate over and over again. Had NE won, the 72 Dolphins would be clamoring for an asterisk on the Patriots' record.

Yeah more or less. Lots of Vikings in it this year! More starters than any other team, I believe. AP had a good game it seems, I didn't watch the game.
