That looks nice, but... Isn't this a bit useless until Lith releases the Blood source code (which I doubt they ever will)?

Far as I know the Blood IP is in Atari and/or Infogrames hands now. Ask Damien he knows all that is Lith.

You don't need the source to replace the tiles, all you need is the editing utils (witch are on the cd) you should also just be able to place the tiles.art in the base blood folder, i think the game looks for those first and if nothing is found then it uses the ones in the GRP, but don't quote me on that, I not totally sure.

If you're working on tiles you have to make them... well tile. I just checked the first two and there's some rather noticeable seams there. Plus if you want to work on stuff simply adding filters isn't really much of an approach. Try actually contributing to the art. Keep on truckin.

Yeah, like the scaling would actually be consistent. Since the new texture is just the original texture with some grain added why not just play blood with the original texture

You could actually upscale the textures and add some full-scene anti-aliasing, since BLOOD supports hi-res textures. However, you would have to rescale and realign all the textures in all levels... And they would look inconsistent compared to enemies and voxels.

Other than that - yeah, changing the textures is quite useless. Since they're already as detailed as they should be.

Thanks. :p

And yes, while cool this is pretty useless until Warner Bros and Atari can settle on some sort of arrangement.

That is if the source even exists anymore. Somehow I doubt it does.

Companies don't just throw stuff like that out by accident or because they don't care. Atari has told me through e-mail they still have it, it's just against company policy to release it publicly.

Warner Bros is also shown as being the owner of the IP... but they don't have the source. It's a bit of a cluster***k.

What a mess for all the Blood fans. :(

Weird, Monolith has replied by email and said that they've lost the code.

Well - maybe Atari still have it and Monolith don't.

Well, depending on the contract they made with GT Interactive, it might be true. If GT Interactive demanded they'd hand all Blood material they had to them (inlucing the source code), it might be that Atari has it and Monolith has lost it along the way.

Atari isn't doing too good... I hope they go under, and Warner snatch up the source code. ;)

That's the problem. Monolith can't release the source code to the public as they don't have it. They "lost" it to Atari years ago.

Throughout the name changes, company changes and problems that GT/Infogrames/Atari has had... it's amazing Atari even still has the source.

When Warner Bros. bought Monolith I had hoped that it meant good things for older titles like this. But so far, nothing has happened.
While it does list that WB owns the Blood IP... Atari still holds a large portion of the game, still hosts support for both Blood titles... sucks.

The whole situation is a total pain in the arse really

Yep.

I've actually stopped bugging Atari, Warner Bros... everyone for a long time now. Nothing was happening and I was getting upset by it.

As much as it sucks, I just don't care anymore. Now that my PC can run like 99% of my dos games in dosbox I see no point in source ports. Even if I wanted to play MP I can.

Damien_Azreal

Yep.

And I'm almost glad this way. A port of Blood would mean higher res textures, fancy effects and 3d modeled enemies and weapons.

It would make the game look crisp, clean and new.

It would take away from Blood's charm. Blood's gritty, dirty look adds to it's feel... changing that would more likely hurt it than anything else.

^What other uses could the source code have? I mean if people don't want it for updating the graphics of the game, then what else could they do with it?

Windows port.

linux port

Damien_Azreal

Windows port.

Yep.

While most people can run BLOOD flawlessly through DOSBox and the Deathmask setup, there are still a number of people out there that can't.

A port would help make the game more stable in WinXP and future OS.
