Undertow is free only for today..

As I've heard from a reliable source Screwattack's SideScrollers to be exact. (Wich is Screwattack's own radio segment)

I made it's own thread so people could easier notice this, and so we could keep this discussion on the game itself..

I'll tell more about the game once I've played it for a bit..

The game is like Battlefield only it's a 3D Sidescroller (think Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project), and it takes place Underwater.

In Multiplayer there is a conquest mode that works like Battlefield with controll points, or a Deathmatch mode.

Character Classes

There are 4 charater classes:
-The Marine: The Marine is fast, agile, has an extended shooting radius, but low armor.

-The Dragoon: The Dragoon is slower, but has a powerful short-range shot and high armor.

-The Corsair: The Corsair is fast and can fire a storm of missiles at long range, but has low armor.

-The Destroyer: The Destroyer is slow, heavily armored, and has the most powerful weapon in the game.


Upgrades

You earn upgrades by having enough points. Points are earned by shooting enemies and taking controll points.

You chose wich class, of the 4 classes avaiable, to upgrade and the upgrade is effective emidiatly.

Each class has 3 levels of upgrades.

The upgrades increases: character speed, weapon strength, health, and boost power.


Power-Ups

-Frenzy Pack: This doubles your damage for 30 seconds

-Depth Charge Pack: This adds 3 Depth Charges to your arsenal.

-Health Pack: This instantly restores any lost health to your unit.

-Shield Pack: It will shield you from damage untill it is destroyed.

-Speed Pack: This doubles your speed for 30 seconds.

Beat single player. Nice little game, really shows off the quality of stuff that will be coming to X box Live Arcade.

The gameplay reminds me a lot of Assault Heroes (also on XBLA, and really great), being able to move and shoot in any direction using both sticks. I definately would've payed for it, although I'm glad it was free! :D

I want to see more games like this. ;)

Downloaded it and played it. It's honestly a bit strange to control in my opinion. I've had the same problem with geometry wars and small arms. It's about the control scheme. I can't get used to it.

It's like Robotron. Move with one stick and shoot with the other. I was never a big fan of that type of layout, even back in the 80s.

Anyway, downloaded this, but it doesn't do much for me. I think they're assuming you're playing on a 40"+ screen as the characters are so small they're hard to keep track of on my 32".
