Yes, the DMC4 demo was released this morning over Xbox Live and I think it's also on the PS3 network as well. But I can't confirm.
So, anyone with a 360... go and play it, and please... let me (a huge DMC fan who doesn't own a 360) know if it's as good as it looks. :)
Also, mods... I searched and couldn't find another DMC4 thread. If there is one please add this to it.

I'm downloading it right now.
I played the DMC games out of order (1, 3, 2) So I still have a bitter taste of 2 left in my mouth, hopefully this will cure that.

I've played all the previous ones (and own them) in order and loved them. While DMC2 was a bit of a letdown, the overall gameplay was pretty solid. A weak story, Dante not acting like we remembered him and some horrible bosses made it a bit meh.
But the first game was pure awesome... loved every second of it. Third title tried to recreate that felling and while it did well, it never really made it.
Being overly difficult at times and with again a rather dull story filled with some useless characters... it was still fun.
I'm really looking forward to DMC4, as long as the PC port is good and stable.

Well Capcom is handling all ports from here on out personally, and Lost Planet was pretty good (with some really nice PC exclusive additions and enhancements), I can only see good things for PC Capcom in the future
Bring on that R.E. 5 love :D

I so want a quality DMC4 and RE5 port. I'm still hoping one day they bring Dead Rising to PC.

The Lowdown
To begin with,
What's in the demo?
2 "missions". The first is limited to 10 minutes for no apparent reason, and if you run through as fast as I did, you get to where the second one starts, because there is some overlap, but the second isn't timed. The second contains a fight with some ice-demons and then a boss-fight with a large fire-y centaur.
Gameplay
The gameplay is very DMC1, except for the addition of the demon arm that Nero has. It allows for some advanced grabs and navigation around the levels-- After you get a power-up for his arm, you can grapple to a certain point when you stand on a special crest. And when you are fighting enemies, you can grab them with the arm and throw them onto the ground, or swing them around. Other than that, gameplay has not changed.
Graphics
The graphics are very good, but not the best ever, considering the 360 has seen the graphics of Gears of War, and the animations of Assassin's Creed, it's hard not to compare. However, the impressive part of DMC4 is the amazingly smooth, consistent framerate. The character models are also very well done. Environments are good.
Pros:
-The gameplay hasn't strayed from the formula that made it great
-Nero has some personality
-Demon arm is pretty cool
-Framerate is amazingly smooth
-Character models look excellent
Cons:
-The 10 minute time limit on the first "mission" in the demo, it's absolutely pointless
-Nero's personality feels ripped directly from Dante, so one may wonder why even have a new character
Definitely one to look forward to.
Hope that helps.

After playing Mass Effect, I must admit, a consistent Framerate really can help a game a lot.
Can't wait until this comes out, I just hope my 360 is back before then (Yes, RROD, right before the one game I've been waiting for since forever comes out. CURSE YOU 360 GODS).

I downloaded the PS3 version in only 2 hours! The 360 download took me a grueling 10-15 minutes though...
I downloaded the PS3 demo from the japanese network because people told me it was faster. I tried and it took just as long as it does from the US network. Not only that after the 2 fricken hours it took to download the game only displayed in 480i. I played the 360 demo a lot and just don't like using the 360 controller for the game (never though I'd say that about a game). I guess its just because I played it so much on the PS2 that I prefer that style of controller. As a matter of fact I have a ps2-to-ps3 controller converter and I am pretty excited to use it for this game.
Back to the actual game though.
I've beat every DMC out there and I'm almost done with DMC3SE. So far playing as Nero is really fun. My friend thinks he is more fun than Dante. I'm not too sure yet. The Devil Bringer is a very nice addition and can lead to some really nice combos. I'm having trouble obtaining that SSS combo though. They made the combo system a LOT tougher in this game than the previous games. Which I am happy about. Note: I don't mean to give the impression that you get to play as Dante. You don't. The entire demo is Nero's show.
Graphically I think its one of the best looking games. I think its the artwork that compliments it all though. In terms of the art direction this is some of the best. Controls are the same as previous DMC games. X (or square) shoots, Y (or triangle) does your melee, B (or circle) does strong attack/devil bringer.
Based on the demo the enemies are ridiculously easy. That usually changes once the actual game hits though. I won't lie though. Berial kicked my ass about four times before I actually got all the timing down and beat him.
I'm really excited about the game though. I can't wait to play the final product.

Good lord, I have a new favorite game already.
It seems like it will be very well balanced - the fights were easy enough to be fun but hard enough to challenge your skills. The Devil Bringer makes combos even more intense (and longer). But most of all, it still feels like a DMC game, which rocks my socks. Very responsive, silky smooth framerate, beautiful graphics (the architecture in particular) and animations . . .I could keep going and going.
And Berial . . .yikes. That's a terrific boss fight that's made better by those flame effects. Wow.
-Nero's personality feels ripped directly from Dante, so one may wonder why even have a new character
We'll find out once we know the story :p I'm guessing he and Dante have something in common (not just looks).

Are you sure the PS3 version is a port? From what I've heard, the game was being made for PS3 exclusively until Capcom decided to widen their cross-platform agenda.

"We started developing this on the PC on the MT Framework -- the internal Capcom engine. The PS3 specs were not finalized at that stage when we started developing it, so we did start to develop it on the PC.
By developing it on the PC, it's very easy for us to work with the graphics and the gameplay, and see how the game is going to play. Actually, we're still continuing to develop it on the PC, as well as being able to check how it runs on the 360 and the PS3."

It sorta makes sense cause technically speaking today's PC are so powerful that you can simulate a 360 and parts of PS3. The 360 uses the same development tools as the PC and PS3 on the other hand uses a modified GeForce 7 with OpenGL support. Besides it's much easier to scale down than to scale up.
It's also the same reason why Sega decided to use standard PC components for the arcade version of Virtua Fighter 5 and Virtua Tennis 3.

Any confirmation on the PC release date? CommanderZx2 pointed me to a site that indicated that it would release at the same date as the console versions.
But a few other sites I've been to list the PC version not releasing until April. Any word on a set release date?

I was at gamestop and they told me that the PC version is released the same day as the PS3 and 360. Then again, this is gamestop we're talking about here.
I played the demo a lot more. When I first started it up I was thinking, "I don't know if I like this as much as DMC3". I can now say that I enjoy this game more than DMC3. The combo system is more refined. The things you can do with the devil bringer is amazing. I can't wait to see where else this will lead. I've beaten an entire area of enemies while in the air. It was a great feeling. Also, the Exceed system is great. Timing your exceed presses in the middle of combos to do more damage adds more depth to an already deep combo system.
Damien, if you love DMC then I promise you'll enjoy DMC4. I'm having a blast with the demo and its set on easy. We all know that DMC is not meant to be played on easy :P

A score of 8.6, not bad. Said combat is great, boss fights and visuals are amazing. Dialog and voice acting is meh... story it pretty average and jumping, some controls and camera angles are frustrating.

Edit: The post office is being extremely helpful though in all honesty and it helps that the NZ post office realizes that sending mail from Dunedin to Auckland in New Zealand does not take 10 days, which is more than suspicious. My 360 picked the best time ever to drop dead and now it's looking like I won't even get it back.

Saw the review and oh my God, the shadow being refection of the trees were horrible. It was so "2004". Hopefully they'll fix it up on the PC version....heck maybe will make some DX10 exclusive graphical addons, charge 10 dollars less therfore PC version FTW.
Though the bad part is the game will be almost unplayable on keyboard and low end spec machines will run the game like crap. So overall, both console and PC version have their strengths and weakness. So I guess both factions can get along just fine.

I have yet to play the full game, but from playing the demo I can say that I was very unimpressed with the graphics. It looks like just an upgraded DMC 3. This isn't to say that it is bad looking, but it doesn't look next gen to me either. Doesn't matter though because the gameplay kicks ass. I just hope the full game is much harder than the demo.

What didn't you like about it? Have you ever played any of the other titles? No, but I´ve heard they where popular so I kind of expected something good.
First, the graphics wherent all that tech-wise, but thats not something I care too much about. But I also thought the graphics where kind of "grey" and boring. Second, I got really annoyed by the story (yeah, it was a short demo, but the way those 10 minutes unfolded just felt.. of). Third, it felt too linear and forced.
All in all it felt like playing something like Soul Calibur, but against AI instead of friends. Walk/jump along a predefined path, see exits close, fight 3 new monsters, keep going, exits close down, fight 3 more pretty much the same way... Judging by the reaction here, it felt like I was playing a whole other game, but my friend told me it was indeed DMC4 and we then agreed to never play it again. ;) Maybe the demo was just bad, I dont know.

Devil May Cry is popular for it's combat, hack and slash gameplay and varied environments. A demo isn't always a good thing as it's hard to display the variation in worlds.
Story in a DMC game is also something you can't force into a ten minute demo. It just won't work.
If you can... hunt down a copy of Devil May Cry on PS2... the first one. And play it. :) It's more than worth it. The second title is nothing special and can be skipped without missing any plot or anything.
The third is one that must be played... it simply must be. :)

It's a fair comment and you're right in every respect. If there is anything pushing me to buy a PS3 at the moment, it's the unreliability of the 360 hardware.

In regards to Thriller's post:
I think you would not like the game then. The demo is very representative of the final product. The story is cheesy and passable just as it always has been and the game is about action. DMC is a linear series with an average adventure system tied in with what I would like to call an awesome combat system, and if you don't like the combat system I would say just pass on the title all together. The game is about going from one room to the next and being locked in until you kill all of the enemies and if this isn't your style I would definitely recommend not picking it up. As for me I will probably own it within the next few months.

I just picked the game up on ps3 today and I'm having an absolute blast with it. I'm only on mission 5 or 6, but everything has been great so far. There is one blue orb fragment that taunts me though! I will get you eventually...
Anyway, the combat is as deep as ever and with Nero's devil bringer arm it just makes it that much more fun. Especially when you start getting all the cool upgrades to it. I've run into a couple of new enemies now and the White Knights are super fun to fight.
I can't wait to play some more tomorrow. Damn work.

What secret mission is this? I just finished the game a couple of days ago. I've completed half of the secret missions so far.
I'm currently playing through on "Son of Sparda" difficulty right now and its much better than "Devil Hunter". Personally, I think this is what the difficulty should have been set as the normal difficulty.
The only thing I've really gotten annoyed with so far in the game is that damn dice game. If you're not there yet, you'll soon learn to hate it. Once you figure it out though its not a big deal at all.

I cannot emphasise this enough: If you don't hate Blitz by the time you get to Dante Must Die, you are inhuman. They suck more ass than any enemy I can possibly imagine ever.
1) Invincible until you remove the lightning
2) DT on the drop of a hat.
3) You take damage if you swipe them with melee weapons (see point 1).
4) They teleport around REALLY fast like they are on crack.
5) Their suicide [red lightning] attack is just brutal on DMD.
Whoever came up with such a brutally unfair and completely non-entertaining enemy deserves a kick to the jugglies.
Edit: Ha, not only did I finish the mission once I smacked that stupid blitz down, I completely annihilated the Frog and got an S ranking (S, S, A) without even taking a hit from the boss. The only health I lost all mission was to that stupid Blitz. I CURSE YOU BLITZ, FROM THE DEEPEST MOST WRETCHED PLACE IN MY LOINS.

Some news for the PC version was released yesterday (CommanderZx2 brought my attention to it)
"The company has also said that PC players will be able to enjoy a PC demo, available for free sometime before the actual game launches this summer. Contained in the demo will be a handy "benchmark mode" so that you can test your PC's performance (up to 120 fps) against the game's graphics engine to make sure that the action will run smoothly on your rig before you buy." Technically the game seems to run very well (on my slightly high-end system). For some reason it doesn't seem to support my saitek controller out of the box, though. The demo is afaict the same as the one for ps3, and the game seems a little fun, if I could get used to the camera-movement.

Well, the game looks fantastic. Bright, textures are crisp and lighting is great. Hard to tell if it looks better than the 360 version, but I had the settings maxed and it ran silky smooth.
But, again... Capcom does not give us any mouse support. Controls are odd and hard to get used to, even remapping them... without mouse support it makes the keyboard feel cluttered and a bit much.
The game, even for a PC port, was focused at the Gamepad.

I thought the benchmark looked pretty bland in DX9 at least. No reflections/refractions or dynamic lighting to speak of. Good thing about it is that the framerate never dipped below 80FPS with everything @ Super High. And the art direction is pretty nice, I guess.
Besides, it's the gameplay that matters. Gotta try the demo tonight.

I refuse to download the demo as I've yet to start DMC3. Both 1 and 2 were good games, but 2 was so much easier. About the only thing it had going for it was the better graphics.
I'll probably just pick this one up next month.
