View Full Version : Sounds on vista
Is there some Patch to fix sound on vista?
for plain Duke Nukem 3D ?
Or for some specific port ?

I play with JFDUKE or EDUKE. Both the sound is a turd:doh:. Any Help?
the original version works in DOSBox.
I think in the eduke32 thread (subforum) there are some builds with better sound support.
I play with JFDUKE or EDUKE.
You can try xDuke (http://www.gel.ulaval.ca/~klein/duke3d/), the sound should be fine there (at least from my experience).

Screw DOSBox. Get the eDuke32 OpenAL Build 9D eDuke32 snapshot here (http://www.mediafire.com/?fx9z3mdyqj1). It will fix the sound problem and you can still use the HRP. You can also go to hrpupdate.duke4.net and download the "eDuke32 Highres Music Pack" witch only works with OpenAL eDuke32 snapshots. Remember though, the OpenAL eDuke32 snapshot included in this post is more updated then the one in the "Highres Music Pack" so use the one in this post.
You also need the proper OpenAL .DLLs installed on your computer. Get the installer here (http://developer.creative.com/articles/article.asp?cat=1&sbcat=31&top=38&aid=46)
Tell me if this helps or not.
Thankīs dudes now working 100%. One question...I used jfduke and dukester to play on line. Dukester support eduke port?

nope, but it "kinda" supports xduke, you have to point rancidmeat to your xduke binary and it will work excellently, most people use xduke anyway
Thatīs suck! I like to play duke on eduke 32bit polymost. So, IS IT IMPOSSIBLE play duke on vista + good sound + dukester + eduke 32bit polymost?

I'm pretty sure theres some way to make DukesterX think that eDuke32 is xDuke.

It works but it's still buggy. I can't hear echoes for example, and there are strange "extra sounds" spawned randomly.

The last official release of EDuke32 has a fake duke3d_w32.exe you can use with Dukester X to make it think EDuke32 is Rancidmeat. You can use that to play games with people that you know are running EDuke32.

As for "Sounds on vista".
Check out the EDuke32 thread (http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/showthread.php?p=654246#post654246).
The latest EDuke32 has a special hack which can solve the DirectSound problem for Vista. Disclaimer: it might not work for everyone.
