DM-Roulette Beta (http://galileo.spaceports.com/~bean/rbeta.zip)

A wide open map I should have waited until UTII to create. Anyway, lemme know what you think.

Nifty! It's so . . . BIG! images/icons/smile.gif

Initial recommendations:

I would lower the gravity in this map to -150 units/sec. This is just low enough to let the player jump up onto the second walkway and across some of the bigger gaps. If you add a ZoneInfo to the map, you can change the maps gravity in the ZoneInfo's property sheet under ZoneInfo-->ZoneGravity. (The default Z-acceleration is -950 units/sec)

Walkways
I would put the collision hulls over the masked textures instead of under them. During gameplay, the players and power-ups are sinking through the masked sheet into the walkway until they reach the collision hull and that looks kind of weird. (You could also Special Add a 3D brush as a masked brush and skip the collision hull completely, but light won't pass through it because it IS a 3D object even though it has a masked grate texture on it)

I think all that overhead lighting looks a bit harsh and oversaturated. I would tighten up the lighting a lot and add adding some strip lighting on the underside of the walkways with a smaller light radius. If you can think of a reason, I would also add small point-lights spaced out along some of the longer walkways. This would add a real feeling of depth to the map. You can make up for the dark areas of the map by editing the ZoneInfo-->ZoneLight-->AmbientBrightness value and changing it to around 10-20 or so. This will increase the general brightness throughtout the zone and make it look like the smaller lights are dimly lighting up the whole level.

Maybe use an outer space skybox instead of a cloudy one?

The map is finished. It's up at my site.

Thanks a bunch Nutwrench, as always, your very helpful and give a lot of incite.

You know, I'll look into all of that. I'll repost in here when it's finished.

Thanks again!

Did spaceports yank your webspace? I get 404 errors on both the link at the top and your 'Beans Maps' link.

Not that I know of, it works for me.

I still get 404 errors whether I use a Download Manager or just right-click/Save As on it.

Thanks Kef.

NutWrench: Don't right click/save as or use a d/l manager. Just left click the link.

It works for me too and it's looking pretty cool!
