I wasn't sure where to post this.

Since I'm in pre-production for a mod/tc for DNF (at this moment, that may change), I figured I should pick up some 3D modelling to go compliment my current knowledge of Level Design and Texture Art. So yesterday, I decided to make my 1st model. It seems easy enough. I made a low-poly pistol yesterday and I thought it looked pretty cool. So, check it out if you are interested. images/icons/grin.gif
It's just a deco mesh. I guess if I spilt apart the hammer and trigger, I could easily import this into UT and script a weapon. I'll stick to deco for now. It's only 350 polys/180 nodes.

Copy and paste the shortcut into the address bar, since spaceports is picky.

Looks pretty good. images/icons/smile.gif

What program did you use?

I've been thinking about learning to model too, to make decorations for maps, but simple square crates isn't really enough. images/icons/tongue.gif

How did you learn things? Trial and error? Read some tutorial online?

Milkshape 3D (http://www.swissquake.ch/chumbalum-soft/ms3d/)

Great program. I learned all that basically in one day.
It was a small bit of trial and error making that model. I just used free-form drawing. I traced the outline of the gun using verteces and drew faces connecting all the verteces together. Then I extruded and went from there.

It's best to take some time and fool around.

Those look really good for low poly models, the only odd thing I see is the sides are completely flat.

If its been held in the right hand you will only really see the left side. Maybe add a few polygons on the side of the gun which will be seen to make it look more round.

Aw man, I really don't wanna do this. It's good, but your sight is too high, resembling that of a Beretta.
