RIP.
He was a great actor.
I'll always remember him as Captain Bridger from Seaquest DSV. :(

Ah, I thought I saw something on a TV about it while I was out eating lunch. Blue Thunder was my favorite movie he was in, followed by 2010...

I always used to get him and Ed Harris or James Woods mixed up or thought they were all the same guy way back. :o
Just checked Wikeh and didn't know he was in so many movies/shows.

I had no idea this guy was that old. Pretty sad... I used to watch SeaQuest a lot when it was on.

I watched SeaQuest for a while, but my favorite Roy Scheider role is 2010. Between Roy and John Lithgow, that was a memorably funny movie. In all of the roles I've seen him in, he seems like a friendly, down to earth guy. The kind of guy who might have been a friend of the family. I wish he had been in more of my favorite shows and movies. RIP.

He was a terrific actor - Sorcerer was one of my favorites. He'll be missed.

Yeah, that's the first thing I thought of, too. Scheider by far had the best single line in the movie with that one.
I admittedly only saw him in Jaws & Jaws II. I knew he did a bunch of other stuff, but I never saw him in anything else.
