The latest Dead film from Romero comes to theaters this Friday. With a new twist on the series, given the film a similar look as that of Cloverfield. Not all of the film is portrayed through the camera... but a good deal of it is.

With most of the film being portrayed through the lens of a camera being used by a survivor of the attack. The film starts with a group of friends wanting to make a low-budget horror film... but they end up getting caught in the zombie outbreak.
Documenting the events and trying to stay alive.

The trailer can be found here (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809791221/video/6149259/20080130/115/6149259-700-wmv-s.56679371-,6149259-700-flash-s.56679380-,6149259-1000-wmv-s.56679373-,6149259-1000-flash-s.56679382-,6149259-100-wmv-s.56679367-,6149259-300-wmv-s.56679369-,6149259-100-flash-s.56679377-,6149259-300-flash-s.56679379-,6208418-6800-qtv-s.56955565-,6208418-10300-qtv-s.56955568-,6208418-2700-qtv-s.56955560-).

IGN has an exclusive clip (http://media.movies.ign.com/media/850/850383/vids_1.html)of the film called "arrows" ;)

I personally can't wait to see this film. But I will most likely wait til DVD is released. Given my location, Kansas won't get the film.

...goddamnit. I hate this 8mm home video shit. If I wanted to watch home videos I'd watch some shit reality show.

...I've never seen Cloverfield because it looks AWFUL. They say they want to make it more "real" by using this technique, but all they do is succeed in making it look like shit...

Cloverfield is awesome. But that doesn't go in this thread, thank you.

And not all of this film will be through the camera, so to speak. Part of the movie will be like a regular movie... parts of it will be through the camera.
And this is Romero, he knows how to make a zombie film better than anyone. Give it a chance before you sign off on it.

Aside from NOTLD Dawn and Day, he hasn't done a decent zombie film in years (Land, sucked.). Not to mention there have been plenty of other high mark zombie movies over the years that are good, if not better then some of George Romeros works.

I'll give it a chance when it comes out, but last time he just really ticked me off with his insistance of layering his movies in political jaded opinion. Its one thing if its not so glaringly obvius, and not such a huge part of the story. I want to watch people try to stay alive against zombies, not listen to someone old elitist preach to me about how old elitists are ruining the world with their greed. Oh, the irony, Mister Romero.

I, like a lot of other people, really liked and enjoyed Land of the Dead.

Besides, Diary of the Dead doesn't fit in with the previous series. It's not a continuation. It takes place the same night as The Night of the Living Dead did.

I heard him interviewed on Opie and Anthony, he hung out for like an hour and answered every question, he was really cool.

I love anything having to do with zombies so I will deffinately try and catch this movie. Although I prefer Max Brooks' take on zombies over Romero's. Never did like the whole "zombie's can remember" thing.

I love zombie films and will watch just about anything as long as it has zombies in it. I've watched some really bad ones... (the later Return of the Living Dead films) and I've seen some truly awesome ones (Dead Alive).

But, IMO, Romero does the best. And while Land wasn't as good as the previous ones... it was still a great zombie film. And I've been watching this one for a while... just so glad it's finally here.

Romero really went back to his roots for this one. Tried to make it for as cheap as possible... something like 2.5 million. Said it made him feel like he did back when making Night.

Did he actually asked for that little of a budget, or was that all he was given?

He asked for the smallest budget they could get. They were offered like 4 or 5 million and he asked if they could go down to 2.5 million.

Looks good.

I don't understand Land of the Dead hate... it was a natural progression from the other movies, although the ending's tone was a bit too optimistic.

Lucio Fulci is pretty godly, doing the most brutal ones possibly.

SHARK VS ZOMBIE.

Don't forget:

Ha ha ha Fulci's gore looks too fake though, have you seen "The Beyond", when the spiders eat that guy, it was hilarious.

I dig Night, Dawn, and Day, and I don't like Land. It lacks the homebrew small group family made feeling of the other three in the series. It just seems too focused on politically charged messages instead of directly trying to tell the story of the zombie apocalypse.

Everyone said "Lets fill our movies with metaphors about terrorism and Bush" after 911. I think I get the message. People don't like The Bush Administration (Particularly Rumsfield who Romero specifically talks about by name as being what he made Land about in the Directors commentary.). I got no problem with social commentary, or being critical of our leaders... but this song has been sung about 8000000000 times over the last eight years in every medium you can name. It really made it hard for me to focus on and enjoy the story when I knew every line of dialogue is functioning to send a politically charged message. I just hope Diary of the Dead can move away from that.

I liked Bub, I didn't care for Big Daddy or any of the other "smart" zombies in Land. I loved to Hate Rhodes, and just plain hated Kaufman... He wasn't an interesting "villian" he was just a badguy with no real depth.

I liked Stephen, Roger, Peter and Francine. Didn't much care for anyone in Land, because he never really set them up as characters to be cared about. Just more metaphors. Heck the only direct motivation in Land was the revenge setup for Big Daddy and Cholo... There was at least some motivation there. Characters are very very important to any story. Social Commentary should be a secondarily interwoven aspect.

I hope Diary of the Dead can bring this series back to the feel of the original trilogy. Its interesting he thinks less money is a good thing here. We'll see what happens I guess. I just don't think you can top the original Night, or Day. They just click so well. If his focus is on writing, characters, and story he probably wont fail. The original three are all time classics and they stand the test of time from a narrative perspective. :)

I just watched it. It was a decent zombie movie up until the end then it kinda got a little loopy, like they couldnt think of how to finish it. :)

Awful. Probably the worst, most cliched piece of poop zombie movie I've seen in a long time.

Was a huge letdown. I can't believe Romero did this himself, nowhere near the levels of the previous films.

The "real guy with a camera" style didn't work at all, the characters were horrid... badly acted and written. No real story or development throughout.
