Maybe this sounds stupid at first, but did anyone notice in the original Duke maps (including The Birth episode) that the usual keycard order in the gameplay starts with the blue one? There is only one map in the whole game where you have to find the red first, then the blue. It's Occuppied Territory.

Hollywood Holocaust only has one red key, and Incubator only has one yellow key. The Abyss has only one blue key, and Fusion Station, Overlord, Stadium don't have any keys. The rest of the levels have multiple keys, and know what? You always have to find the blue first. :)

Yes...

Blue, Yellow, Red... As if the red key is dangerous.

Hmm, that's usually the case. Or blue, red... but many times in the fourth episode the order is blue, red, yellow. Yellow can meant a warning as well.

Level listing:

E1L1: R
L2: BYR
L3: BYR
L4: BR
L5: B
L6: BR

E2L1: BR
L2: Y (this is strange, the level uses the 1st/4th access format for a change)
L3: BY
L4: -
L5: RB (the odd man! maybe it was changed for the battlelords?)
L6: BR
L7: BRY (the access order is different to the find order)
L8: BY
L9: -

E3L1: BR
L2: BR
L3: BYR
L4: BR
L5: BYR
L6: BR
L7: BYR
L8: BY
L11: BR (AHB level, uses different access format)

E4L1: BR
L2: BR
L3: BYR
L4: BR
L5: BRY
L6: BRY
L7: BR
L8: BYR
L9: BRY (E2/E3 format)
L10: BRY
L11: BRY

So we can't say any rule for the red and the yellow keys. Only for the blue. It's always the first (except for one level) :)

Yes we can. Blue starts. Period. :P

I should take a look at Caribbean and DC levels.

Man, you must have been bored... Wasn't it kind of the same in DOOM I/II a little bit too? Seemed like you had to go yellow, red, blue most of the time....

...except it doesn't always start. You mentioned the exception yourself... thus there's no rule.

Which is the only point I was trying to make :)

Actually there is one interesting point: in E1L1 - Hollywood Holocaust you don't need keycard at all. There is one(red) but you don't need to use it - you can use the jetpack from one of the secret places.

It's interesting if there are other places where you can bypass a keycard.

In Duke Burger you don't need the blue keycard. On the streets outside the building there's a invisible ventilation that you can access which leads to the kitchen.

there is a way to never use a key card at all in Duke 3D. level skip ;p

LA Rumble - blue key is not necessary, just blow up the crack in the incubator or whatever place
The Abyss - you can use your jetpack from Launch facility and fly over the access point

Jump to 0:24.

It's perfectly possible to access it without a jetpack as well although it can be quite difficult in doing so (only managed it one time).

You can also get the roids and do a small wall push on one of the walled off windows... :)

i Think the red card leads into suicidal areas :P... also dont run through the rooms like a monkey mad man (unless speedruning)... always something waiting like for an instant... going through key carded or force feilded areas w/o even looking around isnt such a great idea...

I dont really find any parts in Duke 3D to be suicidal, unless its a room filled with lava and nothing to stand on.

Anybody think that blue was always first because it's the default Pal (0) while red and yellow requires the mapper to change the pal?

Thats just my theory.

Know what? I didnt think of that, that is probably the case... Blue is the default color for a key in build. And for those who have no clue what I am talking about a "Pal" is a pallete which basically changes the color of things, you enter a pallete number to get other palletes.

Not if you're using "Steroids". Just jump from the thrashcan in the street outside. :)

If you have steriods... My way is much faster. :p

/Didnt read the thread, dont hurt me.

Doom had a general trend of key order too, usually the same B-Y-R order.
