How in the wolrd do you make a simple block or room??
Can you change the 3D veiw look movement you use with yor mouse? It is really hard to move around in the 3D veiw like that.
I have been on a lot of other build progams this UnrealEd seems to be the hardest.

Holding the left mouse button and moving the mouse lets you move forwards and backwards. Holding the right mouse button lets you rotate in place. Holding BOTH mouse buttons lets you move up and down.
When you start a new map, the entire worldspace is nullspace (sort of like build).
The red brush is your build brush. You use it to carve out and fill in player space in your map. Try clicking the Cube primitive. Then click the subtract button. This carves out a square room. Add a light to your map by right clicking anywhere inside the square. Rebuild the map by hitting F8 (in UnrealEd 1) or by clicking the Cube/Light combo button at the top of UnrealEd 2.
You can add a column to this room by resizing your build brush from above. Then click the Add button. A column will appear in the middle of the room if you did it right. You should rebuild again. So to recap: Subtract brushes carve out usable player space, Add brushes fill that space back in.
Later on, you'll find out that you can join brushes together or use one brush to carve a hole in another.

>How do I move the brush in the 2d veiws?
Left-click on the brush once to highlight it, then hold down the left control button and the left mouse button and drag.
>How do I apply textures?
Go to the Texture Browser and open a Texture package. Each texture package is subdivided into categories like Walls, Floor, Ceiling, Pillar, etc. Left-click on a wall, floor or ceiling in the 3D window, then click on a texture in the texture Browser. You can click on any surface and change the textures rotation, scaling, etc.
You can copy and paste textures from one surface to another, too. In the 3D window, left click on the texture you want to copy. Then, press Alt+RightMouseButton to Copy the texture. Click on the surface you want to paste to and press Alt+LeftMouseButton.
>Can you shape your brush in the 2d views?
Yes. You can change the shape of a brush after you add it to your map, or rotate it or move it anywhere else. You can also edit the individual vertexes and move them around independently, but I'd recommend mastering basic brush placement before you start fiddling with that.
A good rule of thumb: don't let Subtract brushes overlap. Weird map errors will probably happen. Add brushes can overlap each other or stick into the level from outside, but I would learn to use the Intersect and DeIntersect functions to chop away any unnecessary brush pieces.
