Get a legit copy released by the XIII guys here:

http://www.mapxiii.com/editmap/XIII_NES_200802.zip

It's 38 mb, has terrain, karma, et all (based on 827 build, 927 is current), and is very sweet. Been playing with it all day. Very cool. very very cool.

Oh, I wish 3DR guys did the same thing.

/me wakes up

Anyway, I see predefined death animations here. I tought that with the Karma engine they will be no more. Or am I speaking out of my a$$ again?

And I see some UT stuff here and there. Can't they learn how to remove old textures? The same was with Deus Ex.

Nifty. I liked the freehand texture scaling tool, especially. images/icons/smile.gif

I noticed when I hit the 'H' key to toggle actors on and off in the 3D window that many of the contents of the rooms disappeared as well, but they left their shadows behind. Is this what they mean by 'hardware brushes?' I'm guessing these objects aren't regular decorations because they cast shadows.

My only gripe is that a lot of these brushes had cartoony-looking textures on them.

I know Bean is right about the cell-shading, and I'm pretty sure he's right about the Karma engine being incorporated.

I'm just really happy that the demo XIII level runs runs at ~200 fps instead of America's Army's 30 fps.

I'm still not quite sure how this terrain thingy works, but the weird stuttering slightly-off-the-grid problem finally seems to be fixed. Good Job, everyone, I'm happy all around. Maybe I can finally return from my exile spent in Worldcraft.

[Edit: "Problem" was "probably," and that doesn't work.]
[Edit again: I'm tired.]

then reason they had cartoony looking textures is because it is a cel-shaded game.

Also, it has Karma i think.

Incoming dumb question... what do I use it with?

Bean

it's self sustaining, you dont use it with anything. It has a map-tester and everything. This should come in good practice for those who are gonna map for ut2003

Thanks Bean.

It seems that this thing works exactly in the same manner as old good TerraEdit.

OK one question how do you use the terrain tool? I'm presuming that it has improved since UED 2.0. Because so far I am unable to do anything with that fancy looking terrain editing window. images/icons/frown.gif

I was just toying around with this and I had a thought. With the updated engine and all what kind of numbers are we going to have for sensible brush limits?

I am wonding becuase I now have a map that needs to be split into two to run on UT. I am hoping that later I will be able to take it across to UT2K3.

Anyone hear how much more we will have to work with in the new engine?

AAARRGGHH IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!
When I try to download that file, it says that the file size is 17.8 MB (and not 38). When the download is complete, the zip file (obviously) results corrupt. Is that the ONLY place it can be downloaded from?

That's the same URL I got it from and it worked fine. I used StarDownloader. (http://www.stardownloader.com/index.php) (freeware)

Hi, I've been away for awhile and I just got this downloaded. I was following the Terrain tutorial to a T when I hit a brick wall. Where is this Terrain.utx package at? I can't find it. And also, do I have to make Alpha textures in Photoshop or can I just load up some white texture? Any help'll be appreciated...thanks.

EDIT: Hey Bean, I've linked to your site (hope you don't mind) from www.gopostal.com (http://www.gopostal.com) so others can get a head start on this editor...

I finally managed to download it! Good program, but it's a shame for that cartoonish look! Is there a way to import Unreal/UT weapons and monsters into it?

I'd really like to know where this Terrain.utx is. Or how I create Alpha textures...

You have to create some terrain maps by yourself, and then import them into new package, which you can name whatever you like. As for the alphamaps, I created one in PSP, but maybe you're able to do it in paint, I'm not that much into graphic design.

BTW, don't be surprised, if after importing the textures and saving the in the new package, it will be screwed up when you'll decide to restart the editor and load the package into the browser agian. (this editor is really buggy)

And what about my question? Am I restricted to the sucky cel-shaded objects in the editor, or can I import Unreal/UT objects and see them in the "game" as they're meant to be seen (NOT cel-shaded)?

yossa

1. You can't remove cel-shading from the game.
2. You can't import your objects to the game (at least I think so)

Besides this editor is only for trying things out, isn't it? It's crashing on my comp every 30 minutes or so... It's not that you would want to make a true playable level in this one now, would you?

BTW, right now I'm doing realistic BABE terrain ™ with textures and 'stuff' images/icons/wink.gif

How do you move up and down? I tried to grip both mouse buttons at the same time and move, but it only selects the menu! images/icons/mad.gif images/icons/mad.gif
