The article is from last year. . .

But at any rate, I would have preferred that they didn't have to sell Fallout to get back on their feet again. Too late now since Fallout 3 is on the production line at Bethesda and is looking for release this year.

Why? Who cares if Interplay had it, they don't have Black Isle. Therefore it would simply be Fallout in name - just like Bethesda. So it makes no difference except Bethesda has the money to work on it, rather than sit on it like Inteplay.

A few years back, their site stated that they were planning an MMORPG.

Hopefully, they dropped that idea.

edit:

Ahh, good. Just read the article and they mentioned the MMORPG is on hold. \o

I'd rather see Kingpin 2.

It's not on hold. It's Fallout Online and they have Anderson on it.

Redneck Rampage 3! :D

Don't believe they own the rights to it. Can't remember who bought them, but I'm fairly positive someone did.

Earth Worm Jim game :D

I would love to see this series make a comeback, but the last time they tried to revive it on the PSP, the original team was kicked off the project and then the game was canceled. Who knows, maybe they will get it right this time... but I won't hold my breath.

I'm not sure of what to think about that Fallout MMO. Part of me tells me it's really cool and will probably turn out more in tune to the originals than FO3 could ever hope to be. But part of me also says it will be Fallout just in title, licensing the name of one of their most famous ex-franchises from Bethesda in order to follow the current MMO trend. :(

I wonder how many of the former employees will be back.

It's not on hold. It's Fallout Online and they have Anderson on it.

The article said they needed 75 million gold for it, i thought, and in the mean time would work on churning out sequels, in its stead.. :o

that's a lot of damn gold. Wonder if they meant 7.5 million.

They have heaps of debt to cover, I think it's something like 100 million. Their hopes are that this Fallout MMO will be their saviour and suddenly overlap WoW to become the best MMO in the industry.
Personally, I think they just need to dissolve. Sell off all the rights and franchises that they have greedily kept for years, declare bankruptcy and move on.

Man, Interplay cranked out a lot of good games in the 90s, and even in the 80s. Along with Sierra, they seemed to pioneer how to make great fun games but really F-up the actual business side of the company. I've studied economics and finance, and man is the gaming company world a really, really crazy one. Even going back to the Atari days it was unstable.

tomshardware had posted an article on ET and Atari the other day. That was a pretty good read.

Way back, I thought interplay had some of the best mappers and level designers.

Baldurs Gate III ;)

Ineptplay don't have the license anymore, which they lost to Atari who may be doing such a thing (but nobody really knows).

I would far rather them just die already and save everyone the horror of having to hear Herve Caen and his rats going at it constantly in his barrel.

Sierra's was a sucess story though. Ken and Roberta were just average folks who had an idea and started a business around games. Now they travel the world in an expensive ship and enjoy retirement. It's not his fault the idiots he sold the company to decided to run the name into the ground (and are currently *still* running it's corpse).

So true.

Without the talent of the previous Interplay, it's just a husk of it's former self.
