Post some good IRC channels here and provide a short description for each...

#help irc.freenode.net Good help for newbies at IRC and can show them how to use stuff.

#linux irc.freenode.net A good Linux help server with people that can, and will help you with any version of Linux.

I can't post the ones that used to goto, they all contained the words "mp3" or "video"... :p

I'd like to post mine as well but I don't think a lot of people here would approve of major game cheating channels ;s

The server I do Idle on with a lot of active channels is irc.rizon.net

Anything except #3DRealms :D

Old #3drealms is dead though? The regulars that were on it at the time moved it over to another private server and basically it became #IMHOSTFU

Last time I checked Gamesurge had no more #3drealms...

Anyone have any interest on ressurecting #3drealms on irc.freenode.net ?

I'm online right now and I will be for some time.

Any other cool IRC servers?

I'm usually on freenode as well (#dosbox)

I recall that quakenet is used for games with multiplayer support.

Yes, quakenet is for all games though, not just multiplayer ones.

I ran #3dr with TX and someone else I can't remember now.. it died off not too long after.

People are nowadays on Steam chat.

Quakenet is the place to be if multiplayer games are your thing :) Most teams have their channels there, and matchfinding channels too.

3D Realms irc-channel would be cool, but I think there aren't that many people here that are familiar with IRC.

I'd help run an IRC channel for 3DR, if someone's interested in resurrecting it.

I like the way steamchat is setup. I mean most of us use steam anyway to play games, so the chat is 'just there' without any need to reserve nicknames or worry about extra clients/commands. Just join and you're in. Overlay too for games that support it.

Yeah, the 3DRForum Steam Group is basically this minus all those macros and things you can do on IRC. It's crazy in Steam Chat. :D

I think that is an awesome idea Basky.

9 out of 10 people in IRC are pricks. 2 out of 10 in Steam chat are pricks. Take your pick :D

What is steam chat?

Phait

www.steampowered.com Valves game distribution platform, but it's quite nice as you can view chat within most games you have - even ones you didnt buy online from Valve (uses some kind of overlay).

Canit be used when not gaming?

ZaphodB
11-20-2008, 06:42 PM
Yes it can be used when not gaming. You don't even need to have any "steam" games to have a steam account.

Does anyone really still go to the #3drealms IRC channel? I thought it died off...As superczar said, the channel moved and renamed. First to #imhostfu on a private server, then to something else (when I was on holiday and the channel was down). It is kind of still around though. A lot of old #3drealms cats still hang around there.
