Hey guys,
I'm trying to get as much airplay for Edges of Seven as I can.....my own town's station has blown us off because we don't sound enough like Nickelback. Anyway, if you work in radio & might be able to get us some airplay, or have contacts in radio, please get back to me & I'll send you whatever info you require. For those who may not be familiar with us, imagine Trent Reznor armwrestling James Hetfield, with Rob Zombie as referee....that's pretty much our sound. Check my sig to hear for yourself.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks everyone :)
Robert

I do have a friend in radio, though I doubt I'll get much help from him since he's living the BIG life now and is hard to get in touch with. Anyway, next chance I'll get I'll point him to your stuff.
I think it's really really good, I especially dig "Bleed" and "I Hide". You have to had it recorded in a professional sound studio, no?

Anyway, I'm still waiting for my application to go through in our local University Radio Station, maybe if I finally get in then I can help you somehow.

Regardless, good luck with your music career.

Oh yeah, if you ever go on Tour then please come to Germany, too.

UncleDuke runs a show on Radio Free Kalamazoo (http://www.myspace.com/radiofreekzoo), or at least he did. I've been out of the loop a while.

I've been working with the BBC recently but getting anything played on there is hard enough. I'll dig up a few places in Europe to try if you are interested.

No thank you - I'd rather be deaf.

About "airplay".. Radio is increasingly becoming pre-programmed, "Clear Channel says do this, so we do it". "Getting airplay" - is that really the endgame?

I admit to being a novice about it, but that seems small potatoes - OK, you get a few friends to get it played a couple of times on the radio. Explain to me how that helps. Yeah yeah, the "if we get enough people, it'll get us noticed".

But in this era of "sell a million or we don't care", and big business, is that the right way of going about it? I mean when big name artists like Madonna and the like are giving the middle finger to the "business" and are doing it on their own, is that the best way of going about it? What about things like the net - Myspace, more directly "to the people" kind of stuff?

Do young people still listen to the radio, and does radio airplay actually lead to album sales in this day and age?

Myspace is probably our biggest marketing tool, but even there it's becoming increasingly difficult to get noticed. I add tons of people on a constant basis, and I look for those who would most likely be into our style. I decided to persue the airplay angle as yet another avenue. Last year it paid off for us in a big way. Roughly a year ago, I emailed about 60 rock/alternative radio stations throughout the U.S. to see if any of them would play unsigned artists that weren't local. Only about 5 got back to me, but of those 5, one turned out to be someone very influencial and is now our manager. He used to manage Korn, he discovered Ugly Kid Joe, and is getting us heard by all the right people. So now you may ask why I'm bothering doing what I'm doing. Well, one particular label rep suggested that we try to make a dent on iTunes to show the labels what we can do. In thinking of different ways to promote ourselves, I figured we have nothing to lose by getting airplay in as many places as we can. You never know who will hear you, and even now, I have an on air interview scheduled for April 29th with an online station called Irock109. It'll be aired May 10th. I'm basically just trying as many angles on my end while our manager deals with the big guys.

Abso-fu*kin'-lutely, radio is far from dead.

Where I live, some of the currently biggest (inter-) regional bands started out small with gigs in small clubs, then some little radio playtime and playing on newcomer-festivals.

As far as I recall one of our radio stations in Cologne was big in pushing the Arctic Monkeys to success.
