Here's one I'm working on now, these shots are very early, but I just wanted to see what everybody thought about em.

Neat-o!

It looks like the place is closed, though. I would add some bright light sources inside the kitchen area that project to the sidewalk, at least.

Or maybe some flourescent tube lighting under the canopy.

Great location and stuff!

You should port this map to DNF when it's released. Urban/City maps are what works best with the atmosphere of DNF. It could be a district of Las Vegas or s.th, even though you called it Neotokyo (nice name btw).

Like NutWrench added, you should brighten up the place a bit or make it completely in daylight.

Very nice modelling there. Reminds me a little of the Dukeburger map. It certainly has a Dukish' feeling. The lights are done well, giving it a nice atmosphere.

Now, all we nee is the monsters.

Thanks for the comments, the map is still very early in production, I just wanted to show what I was working on. NeoTokyo is only a working title till I get it done. If DNF is all I think it's gonna be, I'll definately port it over. I'll work really hard to make it killer and send it to george. Who knows, maybey I can get a job working on Commander Keen Forever. images/icons/confused.gif

like my sof2/jedi knight map (im trying to create some sort of office map sof2 style into the jedi knight universe) my BETA map (http://www.pcgamemods.com/file.php?id=233509073ed3432027d48b1a83f5fbd2) it got bad reviews becuase some people didnt notice it was a beta and some guy was just trolling graemlins/mryuck.gif but i had to restart work because i lost the map in a virus attack images/icons/frown.gif

the new map (wich i started an hour ago) is going wel, mostly because i know the layout already and what i want it to look like but the detail is so much higher now images/icons/smile.gif

i hope your map gets done soon i really look forward playing it and it looks really cool

That map looks sweet!! Have you posted screenies on the UT2K3 maps forum?
OMFG you have got some skill! How long have you been mapping, and you did make some models yourself for that right? If so, which prog did you use, and how long have you been modeling?

Looks really kickass!

Just, IMO, work on the skybox and add some amboent decorations on the ground, like papers and garbage, and it would rock!

When I see those screens I see Duke Forever, not 2K3. Great work!

Wow, thanks for all the great comments, it really means a lot to me. That map is on hold right now, I'm trying to get a job here at 3DRealms working on DNF. (Hence my screename) images/icons/wink.gif

[Very nice modelling there. Reminds me a little of the Dukeburger map. It certainly has a Dukish' feeling. The lights are done well, giving it a nice atmosphere.]

Thanks, I wasn't going for Duke on it, this is actually a UT tech test level for a game I want to make.

Thanks, that's what I was going for, something unique. Kinda half-way between photorealism and art.

Thanks, I think I may have a shot of these in the upcoming maps section of the INA community forums. I've been mapping since Unreal 1 came out, I've never released a map though, been waiting till I get pretty good. And yes, all the models and textures are mine. I mainly use 3D Studio Max R3 and Photoshop 5.5 (it's old, but it's all I've got.) images/icons/wink.gif I've been modeling for about 6 years. Started when Duke3D came out. (coincedence? I think not!) images/icons/grin.gif

That skybox was just thrown in there really quick to keep from looking at a concrete skybox, these shots are very early, I just wanted to get some feedback about them, and thank you all for your great feedback.

Here are a couple of new shots of something I'm working on that I hope will get me a job here at 3D Realms. Let me know what you think about them.

Keep in mind, these are pretty early too, I want them to look great before I show them to George.

Woa! These are KILLER shots!! No wonder, you use high quality textures in conjunction with detailed geometry. images/icons/cool.gif

Hmm, are those cables in the 2nd shot meshes or some texture?!

^Incredible! It looks like there's space behind the texture. I guess the cables texture is a transparent one and put on a 2D shape brush, am I right?!

First off, looks really good, reminds me of maps we will probably see created for DNF.

The only problem I have with these maps is they are usually too clean. No garbage in the streets, no puddles of water or spilled fuel, no skid marks on the street (unless all cars hover in which case forget that one images/icons/wink.gif ), in a couple shots you see what looks like an apartment building in the background or whatever it is, I am guessing it is abandoned because all the windows look the same, all empty. It would be nice to see some curtains on some, maybe a flower vase in one, another partially open etc... also, in most cities I've been in, there are garbage cans on the street, you should have at least one, maybe with trash on the ground near it, maybe some garbage bags tied up and at the curb waiting to be picked up the next morning etc... etc... you see what I mean.

I don't know if I could do better, but I really do like it, but I also really like realism. Some of my favorite textures I ever seen were in Redneck Rampage, play that oldy for a bit and take a look at the wallpaper in some of the houses, torn wallpaper etc... I would like to see more of that kind of gritty realism in levels, I think it sets people apart. Kingpin is a another great example of some nice gritty, realistic levels, right down to the rats in the streets, whinos, garbage cans, old, empty whine bottles etc... now you might not want a SLUM, heheh (although I tend to love slum style levels! images/icons/smile.gif ) but I think you see what I mean.

Nicely done anyhow.

Oh yeah, about your second set of shots, the indoor shots. They are excellent. most indoor areas like that are clean. BUT, I would have liked to see a cigarette butt in the ashtray and that chair next to the ashtray.... it is perfect aligned with the wall, how many chairs like that do you see perfectly aligned with walls? images/icons/wink.gif

Nice work anyhow. I can't get over the textures in that second set of indoor shots... very nice work.

images/icons/shocked.gif I'm earnestly amazed by your brilliant and dazzling work on this map. The idea of using a texture to make an illusion of cables was indeed clever. I never thouht UT2003 good look this good until I saw your screenshots. Keep on the good work!
